We're a serious football club off the field these days and I love it. It won't be long before we're a serious club onfield too. Hopefully starting next year.

The external pressure will increase dramatically if we do manage to snag the 3 names we are mentioning most...

As would the internal pressure I would assume...

This simply cannot be judged until this time next year.

Disagree. We would be adding two A graders to our midfield. I'm sorry, but there's no two ways about it. That sort of talent injection hasn't been seen outside of the GWS midfield and even they haven't managed it in one off season.

I can reveal tonight the following... Jordan Lewis will be at Melbourne in 2017. Tom Rockliff is 90 per cent over the line and Chris Dawes has been delisted and that will be announced tomorrow. Don't ask me to name specific sources of info, as I'd be betraying trust, but since the riddler has returned ...let me me indulge him..The Lewis news comes from a sauce closer than the man's dog.. The dawes news is from the main door...and the main door told me about Rockliff. Happy Monday 'Landers...We are gonna get what we want ..

If we were to snag all 3 targets, and subsequently have to trade away this year and next year's 2nd rnd picks and probably a 3rd rounder as well, it leaves our national draft picks all very inconsequentially late in the order.

It also raises a list management issue given that we'd be bringing 3 new players in (and i assume 1 out with Dunn to the Lions). We've only chopped 3 players so far in grimes, Jones & terlich, so in order to make the minimum number of draft picks which i believe is 3, we'd still need to cut 2 more players from our primary list.

Newton and Dawes would probably be the other 2 to make way.

Happy to retain ANB for another season and send Garlett to keep Dunn and Steph Martin company.

We need Garlett up forward more than we need ANB in the middle. He simply won't get a game with these new guys coming in unless we really have a bad run with injury.

Just on Stef Martin, my old man sent me a text today about Stef Martin requesting a trade to Melbourne. I figure it was rubbish. He didn't claim a good source on it, but has anyone heard anything about that?

Isn't it funny, some are delirious and at this stage nothing has happened.

I think most of us are just so wanting to believe it's easy to get carried away.

if it eventuates (JL/TR and MH) I'd be wrapped... especially if we manage to keep our 1st rounder 2017. But even so... I'd be happy to pursue success in 2017 with another compromised draft. If we pull of these trades it shows what can be done when you have all the cylinders firing. Chickens not counted by any stretch

Stefan Martin would be great relief for Max

But Max wouldn't be a relief for Martin. Stef hasn't really ever proven himself capable of playing second-fiddle.

And Stef had a very ordinary season this year. Was on the verge of getting dropped. In reality he has had only 1 good season

Be interesting to see who we have coming in....

I always thought the decision on Dawes would be contingent on finding someone to fill the forward/ruck role.

It would be super awesome if we could snare all three trades, and keep pick #19.  If all 3 do not happen I will be pretty disappointed, if only the original trade idea, Hibbo, then I will only be a little bit disappointed.  All three happening would make me create a countdown timer to the start of the 2017 season!

Thank you to the people providing information about what they have heard, from what they believe to be credible sources.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
