Ha - thanks Jumbo. It's just clicked what the No T$ no B$ thread means (often wondered, but got started on that thread obviously 3 years too late)

But you are very welcome to post there.

Or the Dangerfield/Kennedy rumours the year before.

I feel these are stronger imo

I just was Facebook messaging the Facebook page - Zanotti Files. He posted a rumour and was very adamant that his sources were correct in saying Rockliff will be a demon. Read what you like from it..

Posted the pics on Might Dees fb group but the screenshots I took are too big to upload so I'll just copy the convo in here

Me: Hey Zanotti. What are your thoughts on the Rockliff to Melbourne situation?

Zanotti: From our source it's almost done. Lions paying portion of his salary
The only stumbling block will be if a team swoops in late to pay his full salary and he agrees to go
.

Me:  Ok. Mark Robinson tweeted earlier that he hadn't heard anything. The original rumour came from DemonLand (Melb forum site), and the poster claimed it had come out of the mouth of his uncle who is apparently very close with David Noble, who supposedly said it himself. If you don't mind me asking, who are your sources?

Zanotti: Can't reveal exactly who but it comes from inside Melbourne's 4 walls.

Me: If you had to call it now, do you reckon it'll happen

he then forwarded me a message that supposedly was from his sources

Zanotti: Just don't release the info until maybe tomorrow morning? Because although Lewis is 100%, Rocky is about 99.99%. I think for the pages sake, wait until tomorrow when rumours start flying around.
But in the end, you're call!

Me: when did you receive the info?

Zanotti: today. Getting an update tomorrow

Me: how have you had access to these sources?

Zanotti: I'm just someone that luckily has stumbled across some people in the right places.

I then went on about how it could be big for him if he's right, but backlash if he's wrong. He then said -

Zanotti:

Haha.. we get the info and pass it on.

Had Mitchell and Lewis spot on.

Considering the source we have we'll at least get an explanation if it falls over..

Comes with the territory though!

take what you want from it guys...

What was in the message from the source?

It's in the post.... Obviously his source has recommended he hold off releasing it until rumours start swirling tomorrow...

There is a reason I am a paid member of Demonland and do not frequent the depths of BF :)

Zanotti: I read it as this IS the message from his source, telling him not to release earlier for his FB pages sake ---> Just don't release the info until maybe tomorrow morning? Because although Lewis is 100%, Rocky is about 99.99%. I think for the pages sake, wait until tomorrow when rumours start flying around.
But in the end, you're call!

I could be wrong though.... Not uncommon

Yep apparently that is what Zanotti was sent by his sources regarding Rocky.

There is no doubt that's the best approach, what i will add though is that Demonland has a funny way of treating a non trade as confirmation of an unreliable source, this is not the case in all instances, the club can be very interested in a player, and even have a level of confidence in a trade being done and have an unforseen variable crop up, Dion Prestia is a great example of this.

Just wondering how people would react if out of the 3 names we keep talking (Lewis, Rockliff & Hibberd)

That we got none of them and went in with our current draft picks...

I am not sure if DL is ready for such a thing....

When I heard the breaking news of Lewis On Trade radio I came straight to this page and the rumour had already been talked about for 5 hours by then.

Rumours seem to start here first and most of the time they end up being true.

Players changing clubs tend to fall into two categories, those chasing a premiership and those chasing money.  I may be proven wrong but I venture that those looking for a flag are far better performed than those counting their cash. We should be careful about paying over the market for players and wait for the one's looking for success to find us or we find them.

This was my first post and I promise I will never do this again. Whilst I admit it doesn't tick every box it does sound a lot like Lewis

You mean the guy that supposedly turned down more money at the Suns to play for less than he was getting at Hawthorn? His name is Jordan Lewis.

Interesting point.

If we're about getting "exactly what we need", none of them fit the bill. Though all of them would add something, it's not like we couldn't get by without them.

Hibberd fits the "what we need" space best, but even he'd be competing with a growing list of promising HBFs who are potential distributors. While Hibberd's probably the best / toughest / most experienced / best kick of them all, he's not a massive gain on the likes of Salem, Hunt, Wagner, Jetta if any of them steps up another level.

Perhaps this reflects where the team is at - we don't have massive gaps to fill any more, we just need fine-tuning in certain areas, but that might come anyway with further improvement in any of a number of current players. Then again, it might not.

Sorry but you are kidding yourself. You're saying Hibberd is no better )or massive gain) than Wagner? Please. He is also certainly better than what Salem has shown. Yes, you put a caveat on it by saying 'if they step up to another level' but the statement IMO is plain wrong. He would be a very solid get for us and an upgrade on what we have.

The second part I think you are over rating our list massively. We aren't that good and we have a number of very average players.

To me, the possible recruitment of any of these guys would signal we're keen to fast track our success. Go for A graders and go for experience. It's a bold, but still thought out strategy.

We would love to have two A graders and an elite kicking B grader into our squad. As of 2016, we have Gawn as our only A grader, Jones on the cusp and a bunch of the young guys like Viney and Tyson ready to take the step into that next bracket too.

So from the end of 2016, where we have one A grader, all of a sudden with natural improvement, 2017 could see us have six A graders in Viney, Tyson, Lewis, Rockliff, Gawn and even Jones with that experience supporting him. And if Jetta can rise once more, he'll be an A grader for mine too.

But without the injection of Hibberd's experience and kicking skills in our back six; without the experience, decision-making, disposal and leadership of Lewis in our midfield; as well as Rockliff's experience, ball-winning ability and goal-kicking ability in our midfield and forwardline, we don't make the same level of progress. These guys will take the pressure of all those already at the club and allow them to rise even further.

If it comes to fruition, I think it will have been an inspired recruiting period, along with whoever Taylor manages to snare in the national draft - and all of this from a starting position of pick 26.

We're a serious football club off the field these days and I love it. It won't be long before we're a serious club onfield too. Hopefully starting next year.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
