just realised from 2016 post - lol

I was wondering for a second why I would type that!

If it's going to take an inconsistent, one way running type to assist us to get into the finals next season, it's a yes.

We need some outside class and pace and Motlop provides that.

It sounds like he has had osteitis pubis which has held him back this year, but then having a couple of weeks off have done him wonders. His last two finals were excellent.

I would chase him pretty hard.

I would like him red and blue too. Have we been linked with him or is this wishful thinking?

Wishful thinking at the moment. But surely our coaches can see our need for an outside runner in the midfield.

I wasn't a fan of Motlop but his last 2 finals have been fantastic.  I have also heard he has great character.

Really?   Dangerfield on Motlop's two way running.

"It’s a sacrificial role that he embraces every week and it was great to see him get a reward [on Friday] night.”

Probably would have made the finals if we had him this season.

How many games were we hurt by our lack of outside pace and skill?

Too many but i dont see Motlop as the answer to that problem.

A source here in Geelong tells me that he has rejected a recent one year offer from the Cats, apparently wants more. Has been offered a better offer from an unknown club. Source believes it's from either Port, Demons or another unnamed Melbourne club. Source previously said that living in Adelaide was preferable to living in Melbourne.

That was never going to happen as we'd have to trade a second round pick, which means we wouldnt have got Hibberd and means we wouldn't have gone anywhere near the finals. But that's kind of off topic, as the opportunity has arisen to add him as FA, i think he will definitely help push us into the finals if he keeps up his Daniel Wells style of easing past opponents and hitting players in space .

You obviously haven't heard about a little sweetener called "steak" and "knives."

In fairness, I've heard the term "steak knives" in this context. Not so much "steak and knives".

Looks like he will be staying at the Cats! 2nd round for me!

That post was from last season. He's a FA now.

Port in the box seat. Word on the street is port will be aggressive at the trade table given they think their list is nearly ready to compete for a flag.

Watts and Motlop in would make them very hard to beat.

Hard to beat? If those two are on the field they just lost a heap of tackles per game. If you spoke to most Melbourne and Geelong supporters they would say Watts and Motlop would make it very hard to win

Did they even end up beating a top 8 team this year?

The had a incredibly soft draw. They will be one of the teams competing for the last few top 8 spots at best... they will not rise

Soft draw, no injuries, couldn't even win a home final, you must be joking.

@Adzman was pulling the [censored].

It seems that despite his good skills, we are offloading Jack Watts because of his supposed poor training habits, unwillingness to defend hard and the influence that this has on on the team culture. Replacing him with another highly skilled and lazy player (Motlop), would be incredibly stupid. Motlop's last two games have been two of his best. Don't expect that to be the norm.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
