let them have the extra man in defence all day, that way we had an extra player for 'ball use'. Sorry, but on a wet day that makes no sense. Go man on man, get the ball and get it forward. Instead, all day, we had players look up and have Carlton numbers in front of them so they hand balled excessively. 

 

Yes there were were many other factors, but to me Roos could have changed things to stop the overuse of handball and didn't.

Wet weather footy is actually pretty simple. Numbers to a contest and kick it long.  Repeat.  Extra man behind play doesn't suit this from either perspective. Behind play requires handballs or short kicks to gain an advatage, but in the wet the benefit of this is negated through the slippery conditions.  While in the foward line, well we could all see what happens - to beat tbe extra man requires precision again something harder to do in these conditions.

How many 100 pt losses this year? How many 10 goal losses.

It has improved. Maybe not as much as we would like, but to say Roos has failed at reducing the gap is just incorrect

Possibly the only positive to come out of today.

Despite loses against Essendon and Carlton, ten wins is still a successful season and a clear step in the right direction.

Even in this game, we were with them at 3/4 time, which has been true of a lot of our losses this year. That gap isn't as big as some (here) would like to make out.

Carlton played better, but we still could have won. Hogan and Petracca's set shots are officially an issue.

We all say silly things in the Heat of moment  but as we speak Simon Goodwin is the great unkown. Paul Roos on his day is one of the best coaches going around.

Yep, we definitely need a Plan B in the wet. We can't play our gun and run game style in the wet. It breaks down poorly.

And we just didn't pull the trigger with kick or handball at the right time today. When we should have kicked we handballed. When we should have handballed, slowed down play or gone side ways or tried the switch, we bombed long to an empty forwardline.

It's been a while since our forwardline has been as dysfunctional as it was today.

I guess the positive is we still secured 10 wins despite losing to both Essendon and Carlton. 

Compare that to St Kilda: 11 wins off the back of 4 wins against those two teams.

Not hard to see which team is better placed, IMHO.

Blues wanted it more which is an indictment on the team. We're they looking ahead to next week? Think it would just happen for them? This was every bit as bad as the Essendon loss.
