I was surprised he barely lasted 12 months in the leadership group, i thought leadership was meant to be one of his strong points. Not sure what is going on with H.

This from the sun
Lumumba, who has not played for the Demons since Round 6, said the period he had out of football was “fantastic”

If this is how he feels, he should retire

I'm not sure The Age is right saying Lumumba is contracted for two more years...'Rfpc' in the Contracts thread has him listed as OOC in 2017 and Wikipedia has him on a 3 year contract ie OOC 2017.  I don't know who is right but would be leaning to one more year.

Whatever the issues are with H I'm glad the club is doing what it can to support him.  It sets a good example to our list that player welfare is important.

If he sees out his contract and gets back into the seniors all kudos to him.  If he plays it out at Casey so be it - he will be a good mentor there.  If all agree to part ways, well and good.  I don't see a downside here and am very confident the club will make a decision that is fair for all.

Edit:  Correction of Wikipedia reference.

I'm talking about what he's done since he got here. Not the future. But I don't believe he's the future anyway. I'd much prefer Salem/Mitch White/Wagner should injuries strike.

I I can count on one hand how many decent games he's played for us. Complete bust. Talks the talk but hasn't walked

Ankle injuries can do this to you.

Who knows what he might have achieved with us if it weren't for injuries. But as time stands still for no-one, I suspect his playing days are quickly drawing to a close. I wish him well and hope he fully recovers from his concussions.

I think he got a 3 year contract with triggers for a 4th year LH

Well hopefully the players don't read the venomous crap that comes out on these pages. He is a Melbourne player show a little civility and support.

Really good point. How we've handled concussions (and all injuries really) shows how we're putting the players first and will be a telling factor in trying to attract others to our club.

Definately Stuie, we have handled these issues as well, if not better, than any club in the league. I was impressed the way we went about Nevs & Brayshaws issues with concussion

Seems a little unfair. How do you feel when you go on holidays? Does that mean you should retire from your job?

Hardly an apples and apples analogy id say. Though some life coaches might suggest that very thing...I.e...find something that fulfills your life.

Why? Football is his job.

I enjoy my holidays very much, if i could afford to retire, i would. Maybe i read to much into his comments but i hope he still has the passion to play. If he can come back and play like he did against the Pies in rd4 this year, he's a valuable player

I know where you're coming from, it's not something we often hear from footballers, but he's a different cat and i think he was just being honest about enjoying a break from the grind of work for a little bit.

Cheers LH, have you got a link to the Wikipedia reference - I can't see it on his page:

Fair point Stuie, Did you find it a little strange that he was removed from the leadership group after 1 year ? I don't know what to make of that. I was just as surprised with Dunn, was VC last year, out of the leadership group this year.

I just figured that after an underwhelming 2015 he just wanted to concentrate on his own form, might have even been his call, the Dunn one is the one I'm a bit more suss on though.

My bad, F-5.

I miss read the last part of the 'Playing Career' section of that wikipedia page as 'three years' rather than 'three-club'.

''Stuie' mentions a 3 year deal with a one year option was the contract.

We all make mistakes, Stuie.  No need to rub it in altho I will give you the benefit of the doubt and take your post, as in jest.

But the second post you quoted (of yesterday) isn't related to anything I've posted in this thread...a mistake by your good self, perhaps.;)

All in jest Lucy! Hence the emoticon. I quoted the second one to show the post I thought you might have been thinking of. I think someone else added the bit about the 4th year clause, which would make sense.

You don't have to be, you can do whatever you like. But both your initial post and response show your character!

Nobody's demanding that you like the bloke, or the trade, that's irrelevant.

Sorry for not getting back to you asap, but I had to give some kids poisoned apples and kick a couple of puppy dogs.

Look, it's not irrelevant if I like his playing style or the trade. We got dudded. Collingwood got rid of an ordinary player with one or two tricks, and now we are paying his super fund. You can have all the love ins you want about him, but to me he is always going to be a NQR Collingwood reject that talks a big game and offers little. The sooner he retires the better it will be for the kid whose spot he is taking.

This gave me a laugh.

I can totally see where you're coming from, I just think people are conflating two issues. One is what they think of H as a player and the 'value' we got from him, and the other is the reaction to his playing career surely winding up soon.

I think this thread is the time and place to discuss the latter, rather than glorying in how your feelings about the former justify you potting a bloke at this particular point in time, and in these circumstances.

We don't have to agree.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti
