Probably because we don't put our name out there in public attached to a player unless we know for sure we'll get them. Just look at how embarrassing the Richmond situation was last year with Treloar.

We're trying to prevent having eggs on our face. Comparitively, this just makes St Kilda look desperate. They've said they're attached to Dangerfield, Hurley, Fyfe and countless others, and ended up with none of them. It actually just reflects poorly on their club and reiterates a perception that they aren't a destination club.

Well, they did pay the moon & stars for Carlyle. That should keep the fans happy.

And Richmond might just do it again with Prestia.

One thing's for sure and that is Freo footy club has a bad smell coming out of it right now.

I think 'Ross the Boss' might infact be 'Ross the toss'.

Ed: Oh, and by the way, after years of torment from Freo supporters I'm making every second of their shitty season count.

THE Suns have made an audacious play to lure Brownlow medallist Nat Fyfe to the Gold Coast.

The draft pick rich Suns have offered two first-round picks and potentially another player to Fremantle to get the deal done either in this year’s trade period or next year when Fyfe becomes a restricted free agent.

Gold Coast currently have two picks in the top ten in this year’s draft, plus whatever they receive for out-of-contract midfielder Dion Prestia who wants out of the Suns and is believed to have nominated Richmond as his destination of choice.

Gold Coast Suns set to launch audacious bid for Fremantle superstar Nat Fyfe

Gee, three first round picks if Prestia goes to Tigers. Two go to Freo for Fyffe leaving them one first rounder. Not bad for GC.

Regardless of how they got them, three round 1 picks becoming Fyffe and a first rounder sounds ok to me, assuming his leg is ok.

Wow.  That's a huge offer.

I can't see Freo doing it, as I'm sure they'll want to back themselves in to get better next year and have him sign on, but if they are slightly worried about his leg and he isn't the best teammate (as has been reported and commented on in some areas), then they might bite on that deal.  That would, potentially, give them 3 picks inside the Top 10, plus they are already keen on McCarthy, Hill and possibly Rory Lobb as well.

This off season is going to be very, very interesting.

Good on Gold Coast for making that type of play i say.

Freo would have to seriously consider it. Would allow them to probably land McCarthy, Lobb, Brad Hill and probably still have a 1st Round Pick to use.

Freo will need currency to lure those blokes.

I think Fyfe is a real chance of going to Gold Coast.

I think Freo are a real chance of accepting the deal, but Fyfe is still under contract and has to agree to it - he might come back to Freo and say he wants out, but only to a Vic club.  He doesn't have to go to GC if he doesn't want to.  He might see Prestia leaving, Ablett being in his twilight years and possibly Swallow and O'Meara leaving as well, and not see much of a future up there.

Fyfe is a different cat so heading off to the Gold Coast is well within his scope. He's also a footy nut so getting to Victoria might be his aim. If that's the case, the implications of picks and subsequent hand-offs will be complicated. But we're getting used to it.

That would be one hell of a midfield if they could keep them all at the club and on the field.

The Dockers will do a deal with Fyfe. He's their marquee player with Pavlich and Sandilands on their last legs.

If Freo let Fyfe go then they're cactus as a club.

They might  be cactus in the short term.

But three top 10 picks, as well as adding McCarthy, Hill and possibly Lobb, while Bennell might also come back into the side, and the future doesn't look all that bad.  I think they need to go in to full rebuild mode now.  What if Fyfe leaves at the end of next year?  They won't get the same deal as the one GC are offering now.  If they feel that Fyfe is even a small chance of leaving, then they would be silly not to seriously look at that deal.

Fremantle should bite the bullet and trade Fyfe. They need a rebuild. Their list is aging and with very limited youth coming through. Hawthorn are on a very similar path, but they just have the leaders to win their games.

Fremantle missed their window and need to start again. By injecting two first round picks this year in a very talented draft pool alongside luring McCarthy and Lobb if they can get them would set them up on an exciting path.

Gold Coast are nuts if they give away 2 early first round picks for Fyfe.

Haven't they learned their lesson with their injury decimated midfield this year? Why spend such valuable draft currency on someone who has a shocking recent injury history?

It's the very definition of high risk / high reward, but I wouldn't be taking the chance, particularly if this draft is the high talent one its rumoured to be.

Forgive my ignorance, but I thought GCS don't really give a flying fudge about high draft picks and throw them around like trading cards, only caring about academies, points and now trading them for elite players

Perhaps our strategy is to get really good support players and develop our own stars

We need a player like Fyfe and Roos almost said as much when he said we need someone to take the game on and turn it round for us, or words like that.

We got destroyed yesterday by Dangerfield and then Selwood, we had no answer to their dominance and Danger treated our tackles with contempt. Maybe Tracc will be our Dangerfield and Viney will be our Selwood, I'm not convinced about that.

It would actually end up as probably a straight swap of O'Meara picks for Fyfe, if it happened.

That would be far more palatable than seeing O'Meara in a hawforn jumper.
