Nothing good will come out of Hogan playing at Casey against physically weaker, less organised and inexperienced defenders.

Has to come in if fit. The team more than him need to sort things out. The delivery into F50 has been awful for most of this year. Kick to his advantage. Kick to other forwards to force their defenders to be accountable.

Nathan Jones was asked at the today's press interview whether they could find a spot for Hogan, and he replied: "oh come on, that's a drastic call. I think we can easily find a spot for him!"

 

 

It was great seeing Weids out there last weekend but I think if Hogan is fit to play he'll have to make way. Pedo is a big strong body than can help Hogan and also provides that chop out in the ruck for Gawn and Watts. 

How many 'chop-outs' did Pedo participate in last weekend?

That's an unnecessary backhander from the skipper if true. How would Weids or Pedo feel hearing that?

I've never seen more threads derailed by one bloke on any forum before. Every single time. 

Anyway...

 

 

Harmes did way more good against the Hawks than bad. Yeah he butchers disposals but he does a lot of good and plays the way we are heading. Not an issue for me. 

 

Pedo is a career spare parts man. I think he knows his place, had a good game but makes way for a fit Hogan.

I agree with Wunders, from Jones' presser it really sounds like Weed and Hogan will be the combination we'll go with if both are fit. 

However, Weed had strapping on his thigh in the 2nd half, so that might be an issue. 

If Weed and Hogan are fit, Pedo out. 

 

I'm one that would find it hard to ever drop Garlett, his next game could always be a 4 goal game regardless of form. 

Pedo should replace Weeds only because of his bigger body and that is assuming Hogan is in. Garlett is skating on thin ice but will stay,JKH bridging the gap.

The Harmes call for being dropped is crazy.. 

If some people actually watched the game they would have seen James Harmes completely shut down Luke Bruest. Yes he has to tidy up his disposal by he takes the game on and did a sterling job on Bruest that no doubt would have got the pats on the back from coaching staff.

Having said that , he is offering more than enough that I wouldn't be dropping him.

I know it is hard on ANB but it means that when he gets his chance in the ones he has got to grab it with both hands.

Well, he had 1 hitout, so not many.

 

The guy that made the most mistakes was Frost (made four in a row at one stage!) but they won't drop him. The Weed for Hogan. Let's hope Jeffy comes good this week although he played his role on Saturday.

I know he made some mistakes but he played a high risk high / high reward game.  he broke the lines a few times and set up a goal or two.   the players taking risks was the reason we won so I would certainly be keeping him in

In my opinion (stated just for you, Saty), one of the main reasons for our win was the relentless pressure applied by the back six (ie, Frost, McDonalds x 2, Harmes, Vince, Jetta and Hunt - I know that's seven players, but between them they rotated on/off). That pressure didn't just make life hard for the Hawthorn forwards but put immense pressure on the Hawk midfielders and defenders as the ball kept coming out of our backline relentlessly. Sure, there were some missed targets, but that's to be expected with an inexperienced team. If the back seven (whoever they might be as individuals) can improve their disposal even more, we'll win a lot more games than we lose.

What I find particularly exciting is that most of that backline are late draft picks. Each of the McDonalds, Hunt, Jetta and Harmes were later than pick 50. (As was Wagner and Mitch White). Kudos to the recruiters for their astute selections and to the development coaches for polishing the uncut stones.

Re: Garlett, I thought he was good anyway.  Looked to be playing further up the ground than normal in a similar role to Kent, which explains his lack of scoring.  He is credited with 4 inside 50s (equal most with Kent and, surprisingly, Frost), which supports it the idea that he played a lot of the game outside the 50.  He is also responsible for the kick that went down Kent's throat in the goal square, resulting in a goal, and the kick that led to the first Tyson goal which won us the game.  Nothing wrong with his form at all IMO.

Fairly sure it's the first time in weeks Garlett had a run in the middle for a while, and he did some important things there. Not sure if he's had a fitness concern that has prevented it, but he almost always has an impact during those short stints in the middle so needs to keep happening IMO.

They'd feel like Hogan was our premier forward.  If that came as a surprise to either of them, I'd be raising serious questions over their IQ.  

Both players would know their place.  As DA said: Pedersen has been a spare parts man all his career, he should be well used to this situation by now.  It would still sure beat working for a living; if he can keep delivering when required, he puts off having to actually go and do that for a bit longer.

As I said, love his effort and heart, think he'll become very good for us, but throughout the game he was often wasteful with his disposal and it cost us. As Nasher has said before though, it seems Roos values effort and buying in into the play on at all costs game plan, more than clean disposal, so I don't think he will be dropped, I'm just saying it's a change I would make for this game if I was coach. To me, against a quick team like Port, having too many poor users could be more costly than it was against the Hawks, despite them being a far better team. Port have exploited our turnovers in a big way before and I can see it happening again this week if we're messy. Plus, admittedly I have a soft spot for ANB and would love to see his amazing VFL form get rewarded with a decent chance before the season is out.

I like his speed in the midfield, as with Kent. While I wasnt "happy" with Garlett's performance from what I saw he had a bigger impact on Saturday than his previous few weeks. Would like him to get back on the scoreboard more but at least he was involved in the game.

Agree. He's a confidence player, so I'm wondering if that lack of time on the ball lately has impacted his confidence and effected his scoring output? Either way, good to see him being used in the middle again. I noticed Hunt run in off the square a fair bit too, so we're definitely trying tp push more pace in.

The still seem to play Hunt off the HBF but he seems to have the a licence to play furthest up the ground because he has the pace to transition fast. He runs as hard back as anyone and with his pace it's a fantastic weapon. That almost chace down of bruest would have been fantastic his closing speed was just too fast for his own good.

Pedersen did a decent job but let's not inflate his output too much. From my recollection he only had one touch for the entire first half. He had less ball and kicked less goals than Weed. Plus Weed is the future.

Hogan in, Pedersen out. Only other change I would consider is BenKen in for Garlett but that depends on the mood of the selectors.

Yes on Hogan.  Definite yes on Ben Ken. Garletts been off the boil and when we brought Ben Ken back from a stint at Casey earlier on in the season, he played a very good game (cant remember the opponent ) Weed to stay for more experience.looking to the future.
