IMO the guy who has been the most impressive and consistent of our youngsters missed out on eligibility by 1 game.

Billy Stretch looks like he's played 100 games already.

What will it say about the credibility of the Rising Star award if Hunt wins MFC's best first year award and or finishes higher in our B&F than all our other nominations and has still not been nominated for the Rising Star?

Although, that said, there are still two rounds left. The totally presumptuous dreamer in me hopes that he plays an absolute blinder last game of the year against Geelong that helps the team across the line and simply can't be ignored.  Not that I really care about the award anyway.

Jayden is older than most and just scraped into eligibility on age.  He is into his 3rd year so the judges may be expecting more from him than a first or second year player.

Not saying that is valid thinking but understandable to have higher expectations.

Anyway - still two chances left so hope he gets it.

I wonder how many of Dee bloggers out there wanted Hunt to be de-listed,there was more than two! Like Frost both had relatively long lay offs due to injury,to a lesser extent Brayshaw and Salem were in the same boat. I would like sto see him get a R.S nomination but in the greater scheme of things it is not important.

It's a crock of an award but I doubt this would happen. The whole nomination process is flawed as is the fact that anyone nominated after round 12 has virtually no chance of winning.

I agree that it's a bogus award and matters little in the long run, but it is a nice nod of acknowledgement for young players doing well.  

I'd have liked to have seen Hunt nominated too.  Not too worried about it though, the MFC know what they have on their hand, the rest of the competition will work it out soon enough without the nomination.

reckon mills might be the exception here.

 

it's btw him and daniel. i'd actually give it to daniel as mills might only be a first year player, but he's been involved with the swans academy for some time having been in their 'zone'.

 

edit: petracca for third, but he'll be the best player nominated this year

I think Oscar stacks up against Weitering very well going purely by stats. Not that stats are the be all and end all.

i trust weitering far more with the ball in hand!

 

to get a rise out of carlton supporters, compare him to jared rivers - they really hate it, mostly cos i think they can understand why the comparison can be made!

 

aaron mackie is a kinder comparison, it's fair to say.

I forgot about Parish, Essendon hype will probably see him top five even though Oliver is a far better player already.

I sure hope you're not deducing that they are at a similar level of playing ability from that..

Because they're incomparable.

Weitering is streets ahead in almost every facet of the game.

That we've got four players nominated (Oliver, Pertacca, Harmes, OMac) over 20 rounds in an 18 team comp, with another couple worthy (Hunt, Stretch -ineligible I know) puts into perspective the amazing performance of our recruiters and development coaches over the last couple of years.

It's a bit of a weird system, really.  Oliver, Weideman, Hulett and Mitch King (i.e. this years draftees) are the only players on our list younger than Stretch, yet he's not eligible because he played a few games in his debut year - when he was the youngest on our list full stop.

Oh well, another one to chalk up to "we don't need an award to know he is good".  

The order will be 

1. Daniel

2. Mills

3. Parish

4. Weitering

5. Petracca

 

Caleb Daniel has been the best of the bunch this year, consistently bringing in good numbers and impacting games. Long term though the award means nothing and Oliver and Petracca along with Weitering will be the best players assuming injury doesn't get them.

Your grasp of history is appalling. Have a look at how many nominees we had during our halcyon period of 2008 - 2013. By your reckoning, Prendergast was a genius.

As others have said, the importance of a nomination means zilch. It's just recognition of a couple of good games by a player who meets the criteria.

I've got no idea how many between 2008 - 2013, feel free to provide the data... tbh that period is of little interest to me. 

I'm comfortable praising the present crop's arrival as players, and to dismiss the RS out of hand (again feel free to provide data to back your assertions) seems ignorant of the many new players omitted from nominations who are destined to have short and mediocre careers.

A couple of times, like when he ran inside 50 and put it out on the full, I had to quietly turn around, shuffle the cushions and sit back down, while my wife just stared at me 'like' I was an idiot.

Add Melksham, Tyson and Garlett who earned RS noms at their first clubs...
