10 goals down at half time .

like with the hawks loss - its our inexperience/craft side of the game that is a work in progress .

Good effort though .

That Franklin bloke up the other end hasn't done much either. Conditions aren't just one sided.

He does have more than double the amount of tackles which indicates his pressure around the ball, second efforts plus throwing his weight around.

In saying that Hogan hasn't been the issue, We are being belted in the clearances which means we are always on the back foot and lose the battle of territory

Playing footy in this weather may be fun. But watching it is bloody terrible!

I wasn't excited about this game at all for this very reason.

Trengove having a shot for goal from outside 50 was the most ambitious I've seen since Frost tried to bounce the ball.

We need our forwards to hold position and when we get it in there actually apply some half decent pressure. Vince and Wagner showing how to play these conditions. We crack in and negate to the first and second stoppage well but their big bodies then win the third or fourth and clear it. Vandenberg and Kennedy have been quiet I would push them both into the midfield rotation.

Don't know which incident he was talking about, but if it's the McVeigh chase I agree. There has been a few instances in the game unfortunately.

For anyone at the SCG today could you just duck up to the Fox Footy commentary box and give Tony Shaw a slap? Thanks.

He clearly hates Melbourne and he speaks like a bloke that suffered multiple frontal lobe brain injuries. He's bringing new meaning to the title 'special' comments.

I don't understand why people are surprised about selection.

It has been clear all that we are picking sides based on following team rules/game plan and development of players who are in Goodwins plans for the future, not based on winning matches.

we are having a dip, they are just a better, bigger and more mature side.

And that's why you play an experienced player like Grimes. You need the hard dour footy in the wet at the SCG against the Swans. Not saying that he wins you the game, but he would improve the chances marginally. Even play him as defensive forward on McVeigh.  Waiting for Roos to say we selected badly for the 3-4th time this season. Obviously unaware of conditions.

Yes, that was the instance.

They are the cleaner team to this point. I don't hold much hope for the second half. It feels like we're hanging on. At least it's not cold.

The cleaner team will win.

Jetta 1 disposal and Vandenberg 3 disposals..

Might as well as played with 20 blokes..

Let's be honest, Grimes and Michie would make no difference. As much as people want to whinge and complain, we are playing pretty well, Sydney are just playing better.

I'd love to see us push hogan higher and leave Vandenberg deeper as a target. He may not be a typical full forward but he isn't having a lot of impact up the ground. Perhaps we can use him deeper and use hogan and Dawes our targets 50-80 from goal

That's right, the reason we're losing is all because Jack Grimes isn't playing.

Have you seen the conditions?

This isn't a game about possessions, it's about position.

Dumb footballers, we stand in the wrong spots, we try and handball when we should be kicking, try and bounce in this weather.

In the wet if should be one on one. Make each and every contest an actual contest.

should be every easy to coach, but we can make a meal of anything.

Wasn't that the same stat for  Nev in the first half of the Hawks game. Apparently doesn't like it wet.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
