POST MATCH DISCUSSION - Round 11

Featured Replies

Dawes was ok, worked hard and led up the ground all day. Needs a crack in the dry for us to find out where he's really at.

As usual Jeff Garlett goes missing against a decent opposition...  the bloke is a pretender and should go back to Casey next week

well done Vince

They are the reigning premiers. They are a lot more experienced and they just know how to grind you down.

I thought we played really well despite a really disappointing last quarter kicking just 1 point. We had a lot go against us today and some players who basically didn't turn up, namely Garlett.

We also would have been a lot better off playing Pedersen who can take a mark, than butter hands Dawes, especially in this weather. Not sure if Pedersen is sick, but if he was fit it was a costly mistake to leave him out.

A lot of positives today, I thought Frost was very good down back. Vince amazing, Tyson likewise. It was a strong effort and a much improved effort than the slop we've served up against them for 10 years.

And lastly, I hope, although I know we are too weak to do so, that we give the AFL a please explain re: the umpires. The most one sided disgusting biased performance I've seen in a long time. What a joke.

So many Hawthorn hacks off the ground went straight to a Hawks player. Couldn't believe it.

Tyson was great but ran out of legs. On a day when our 2 best where experienced, in and under players (Vince and Jones) we were stiff to come up against Hawthorn today - since that's half their side. Gave away 60 games experience on average.

Omac, Tmac and Frost is a heart in mouth backline though. We feel too short on experience down back.

Noticed the same. A few times we trusted him in a one on one and gave us nothing

You get that with x factor though

Thought frost had some good moments, watts was very competitive. Dawes will be better for the run. Competed well on a rubbish day. Trengove got better as the game went on. Tyson Vince and Jones were great, but just couldn't get going in the last quarter.

We know we are getting closer which while frustrating, looks good for the future. But I really felt we needed to win that for reward for effort. To destroy the reigning premiers in clearances and contested disposal is a positive. Just run out of gas.

Certainly some real positives from this game

Look I don't know what you watched, he presented well in a horrid day for tall forwards. We went to him and he competed. Not sure if you noticed but hogan gawn and watts all didn't take a lot of contested marks...

Exactly - I have been a critic but he honestly competed well - it was his first senior game for ages.  Hopefully will do better against his old club next week.

Oscar a complete 180. I can just see Roos notepad "If raining don't play Garlett"

Yet with not many marks up forward this should have been his sort of day

This was quite notable. To the point where it can't have been luck, but rather forwards smartly playing in front.

And maybe we didn't learn and do it more ourselves.

Probably were concerned that there may still have been a kicking in danger rule, when it clearly has been thrown out secretly by Gil.

I like Frost down back, but I can recall at least 3 times where he tried to be too cute and directly turned it over.

This was not the mugging that I was genuinely fearing. It's such an improved result. It is time, however, to play the Weed.

We didn't have enough off the ground hacks. We should have kicked there hand every time they went to pick up the ball like they did to us

Garlett is horribly out of form - hogan didnt do enough again foward fifty tackle count low at 8 to hawks 24

I don't think he is out of form, he got to the right spots; Garlett does not like slippery wet footballs, can never get hold of them.

Hunt and Harmes must be dropped. VDB needs to do much more. Hogan has got to actually learn to tackle.

Disagree totally with Hunt.  I still think he is doing more than enough down back to keep his spot.

Harmes, on the other hand, is one I do agree with.  Hasn't done much for a few weeks now.  In fact our small to mid sized forwards haven't done much for a while now.  They were down again today and it really does hurt us, not only forward of the ball, but also with the style of defence we are trying to play.  The only winner through there was Petracca.  I'll give VDB some slack in his first game back, but Harmes and Garlett were not good enough today in conditions that saw the ball hit the deck more often than not.

That is because the backs are "zoning" and not playing their man from in front.

Really worried about Garlett. Signs a new contract and goes missing.

Frost was good in the backline!

Harmes needs a spell. Ten touches at 20 percent efficiency is terrible.

If you win the contested footy and the clearances you have to convert. A waste otherwise.

Have a feeling Hunt will be something special. Looks a gun.

To me he looks bereft of Dare and confidence / skill with ball in hand

We played better wet weather football then them for three quarters but for whatever reason we were petrified to kick the ball of the ground. Hawthorn started doing it in the fourth and all three of their goals in the last come from kicks off the ground, which led to passages leading into goals.

I don't believe we "tired" out that quarter. We had a number of opportunities to kick goals and either messed it up or passed it up. Far too often our players look to give it off when already inside 50.

Ultimately, their experience got them over the edge, and they were far more refined in that last than we were at any point in the game.

We should have won that.

Five wins from 11 acceptable, next 11 matches I want 6 wins which would give us 11 wins ii losses for the year…….. that would be acceptable. I really don't give a sh.t who we beat or lose to in the forthcoming future.

Did the same at Carlton if I recall

Garlett's played 2 garbage games after his contract extension.

surely no correlation...

Trengove's comeback is one of the feel good stories of the year, and I don't want to take away from that.

However he is as slow as ever, not just in leg speed but his general movements and disposal makes me feel like he is in slow motion some times.
