Maybe injuries are not quite as correlated to fitness staff performance as people think. I always think we put way too much emphasis on Misson when it comes to the injury situation, good or bad. Sometimes I'm sure it comes down to good luck. There are a lot of unique movements, collisions etc in a game of footy!

While i agree that it's not as simple as saying, he's done his hammy so that's misso's fault, i think the same posters who have held the view the injuries in the past have been his fault should currently be enjoying some humble pie. 

I personally believe a lot of our injuries have been a result of the intense running based pre seasons we'd been having, this season we have had a much more footy focused approach and we are basically injury free on the most part, the real test will be how we go as the year goes on

Hasn't earned enough credits to be worthy of this much praise in my opinion.

Given how we have been able to finish all of our games this year bar one,I give the fitness staff a big wrap.

So do you think that indicates that Misson and his staff are doing something radically different from previous times or all that it proves is so much of players injuries and their subsequent recovery times is down to football being a contact sport played at breakneck pace.  Injuries just happen and after players injure themselves all fitness staff can do is put a program together to get them back on field asap and the estimates of return dates is pretty much a best guess exercise and different player's bodies recover at different rates.

For mine, as Misson is fairly well credentialed and human bodies break and recover at different pace depending on the individual, I go with the later.

So you are saying that the program has changed with a change in focus from running to football. I got into a conversation with David Misson in January and asked that exact question and he said exactly the opposite. His answer was if anything they were running more in preseason ( excluding draftees and rehabs) because after 3 preseasons they were fitter and needed to be fitter. He did say we are not running more in terms of time spent running but running harder/faster/more intensity than we have ever done before. He said we were light years behind other teams in terms of fitness and it would take 3 preseasons to catch up. He also said we were doing about the same amount of football work. I also asked him the question about soft tissue injuries and he suggested that each season a general running program is designed and it has been upped every season but special consideration is given to players with a history of soft tissue injuries - that is why they have reload days at training and put players in the rehab group more than others.

They have been careful with Dawes but even that didn't help. 

So from what he said I don't think the injuries early in the piece were from too much running  - injuries happen.

Strains and muscle tears can obviously be avoided by solid long term preparation but sprains and ligament damage, not really.

So I guess it depends which type of injury people are referring to.

I can't speak for deever but I took it that he was complimenting the fitness staff on our ability to keep running better than our opponents in the fourth quarters, and I agree totally with that sentiment. 

I didn't see him comment on soft tissue injuries (which incidentally don't seem as prominent, at thus stage, as in previous seasons Chris Dawes' chronic / recurring problem excepted).

It has taken 3 preseasons for us to get up to speed - which is what Misson was saying from day one. It is a thumbs up to the fitness staff or is the ability to run out a game something we should expect from any team ? I also think that self belief that we can always win tends to make running out a game a little easier. ( in the past when we lacked that belief the energy levels dropped pretty quickly)

Others were patting the fitness staff for our small injury list so my comments were addressed to all.

Actually its 5 seasons. Neeld and Craig both said when they started that we were 3 seasons behind the fitness level required. that was in late 2011....and when you consider the turnover of players in that time.....

Perhaps a silly observation, but what effect do people think there might be training on a ground that has detritus all over it?

I reckon having the ball rolling through leaves etc would be a different feel to game day - does it matter?

Good timing. Doc Misson just said we got Spenicillin back in stock. However, we'll have to make do with Bugg-off as the topical cream - just smother liberally over the infected Armitage.
