Frost was very poor today as a forward/ruck chop out. Not sure why he isn't getting a run in the backline. Do we persist with only Dunn and TMac as our tall backs against the Pies? Or would OMac be  considered? Pedo?

I think OMac will be considered as it sounds like he was very good on the weekend for Casey, plus they obviously rate him as he got the gig ahead of Dunn to kick off the season.  Frost has been poor all year, but so has Pedo.  What else can we try?  Do we just persist with Frost in that role and hope he comes good?  Pies have Cloke and Moore up forward with Howe and Fasolo playing tall as well.  I wonder if TMac gets a chance to redeem himself on Cloke next week...

I'm purely looking at stats, but seems Jones had a quiet game. Did they tag him?

Well, he played off half back for much of the game, so those saying he was tagged, not sure about that one. Thought he was ordinary and made some really poor decisions at crucial moments. He is the captain. I love him, but he needs to do better.

Thought Salem was terrific. Often shows ability to play that role, but think it's the first time he's had a sustained impact from half back. Surprised he only had 17 touches. With Lumumba and, at times, Stretch providing some speed from behind, thought salem was able to contribute.

Good post. I'd forgotten Salem. He bounced back pretty well too. Got involved more consistently than he has in the past and it was a good comeback after last week's poor performance. Still think they should be trying him for ten minutes a quarter in the midfield. But maybe that plays too much with our defensive structures? We have to be malleable though. Surely, this is what Roos and co are trying to create? Versatile players.

Thought Stretch looked weak at the contest today as well. A couple of contests he was involved in lead to him falling to ground or being pushed off the ball too easily. I think Stretch'll be alright and his outside run is definitely valuable, but he needs to be stronger in the contest and one-on-one.

lol hope.... HOPE. how is your hope looking after 10 years of utter crap?

Im a realist.

You and others like you are dreamers with practically no connection to reality.

16 in a row.... to Norf....... 16

Yeah we are great.

* insert eyeroll

Trying to reply to Sue, but it seems this site performs as well as our club. Will SOMEONE find a way to fix it ???

Anyway Sue, i have read you apologistic nonsense for ages, so i already know you are happy to accept mediocrity. it is obvious my standards are much higher than yours.

We lost

Again

Thats 16 in a row to North.

Knock yourself out trying to find excuses for losing.. Meanwhile i will be watching the Dogs take Hawthorn to the wire.

We can only DREAM of doing that.

If you didn't have hope you wouldn't be posting on Demonland right now.

I agree that Frost really isn't much of a footy player. He's still very raw and inexperienced, but so far there is very little to like with him. Keep him away from the ruck, as he is clueless. If we are to persevere with playing him, it should only be as a KPD. I've seen enough of Dunn and Garland continually hurting us with their lazy work ethic and attitude, and horrendous decision making and disposal.

We already have McDonald, who throws in the often sh!thouse game where his disposal couldn't be worse, so we can ill-afford to have 3 backman with poor disposal, it is our Achilles heel back their. We still need another good tall KPD if we are to improve (better start getting into Weitering's ear!).

The Essendon game will be by far our worst performance for the season

At least it's out of the way and we can put it behind us ... today was a huge step in the right direction and with a little bit of luck, we would have won the game.

Not worthy of congratulations per se (no loss ever is) but the players gave their all ... now, to follow it up - every week.  We play like that every week and we'll win our fair share of games.  Hope returns.

All the same, I hope the players and coaching staff are feeling filthy tonight.  Nothing wrong with being hard on yourself even if somewhat satisfied.

Gawn was a warrior - our midfielders finally got in the right spots for his taps (unlike last week when they weren't in the right spots) He was so good he was hitting it down their throats.

LOL loss 16 against a mob of pretenders, and some are trying to blame it on the umpires.............. again............

MFC have WAY too many supporters who are too easy to please.

Glad the sugar-coaters fund this chit. Means i can keep saving the money i would have spent on membership for stuff i actually enjoy.

This was a statement game believe it or not. Makes me laugh.

Or not.

See you champ.

Well, I hate losing but THAT was a statement to supporters. 9 goal qtr against a good side and smashed the around the ground. More polish/better officiating and we are celebrating a huge win.

We aren't and that's footy but the effort was back and when it is - we are a good effing team.

Looking at the stats over on the AFL site, we had more possession, more clearances and more inside 50's which seems to me to be a vast improvement on last year. So we are getting the semblance of a good midfield at last, so bring on Brayshaw and Petracca.

I'll look at the replay tomorrow, but from what I can see the game could have gone either way. I don't like losing but I feel better this afternoon than I did a week ago.

Our recruiting would clearly suggest we've targeted inside ball winners first and will add the outside polish in the coming 2-3 years. Viney and Oliver, with Brayshaw and Petracca are going to be tough to manage. Add Tyson and Salem in there and we have the makings of an A grade midfield. Someone like Prestia who can play inside or outside will be the perfect tonic to this midfield. We'll just need a Burgoyne type and we start to look really dangerous, dare I say formidable.

I think Goodvibes said it earlier. It's going to happen with these younger guys, but it's going to be frustrating in the meantime for our already battered supporter base.

I think you forget,  or have NFI,  the rabble that this list was merely a few seasons ago. Today was a good effort against a team far higher on the development ladder, and a bunch of [censored] umpires.

No doubt that is the required effort, intensity and ball movement that we need to see weekly this year.

This is what we should look like every week, not just after a bad loss or after we force ourselves to pick up the effort.

What a great game.

A bit more composure there in the last quarter, and a touch more class, and we win that game.

Let's not forget North are 3-0. If we play like that every week, we win 10-12.

Maybe last week was the 'loss we had to have'.

Realistically to get within 5 points against Norf at Blundstone which has been a fortress for them is a good effort. Also were screwed by the jaundiced m@ggots. Many more positives than negatives.
