Why should it be the victims job to have ago at the perpetrator?

They are both working, it is not appropriate. If he had waited until they were off air IMO it is not as bad. If his team mates egged him on that makes it worse for the victim. Kick the [censored] out.

Stop blaming the victim.

PS: - I have been inappropriate and I am no angel but at least I know what is wrong and when and how to apologise. And its starts and ends with I am sorry. (No conditions)

When have i blamed the victim?

all i am saying is that life throws up curve balls and always will.

You either throw them back or you  get hurt.

They were both in their workplace, it's not her responsibility to put him in his place.

No it is not...But Life aint like The Brady Bunch...Live TV is just that...You have to be ready

I think Mel is great...But she could have Nailed Gayle so quickly...A Simple "I beg your pardon..." would have put a stop to it

I think Gayle was set up as you can hear Team Mates laughing in the background...so he is not the only guilty one...

SWYL you keep saying she should have done something.

Why should she have to do anything? By suggesting it is up to her to put him in his place you suggest that it is her responsibility. That is placing a burden / responsibility on the victim. By doing that you have placed blame on the victim, (she should have done....)

The extension can be drawn that women should not wear short skirts or reveal too much skin or go out after dark or should put sexual harasses in their place, can you see that? This is not a personal attack, but we need to be aware that our words, actions and inaction's have an effect on others, you have said that you have been a victim of discrimination. You should not have to defend yourself, good on you that you have but it is not your or her responsibility. As a community we need to protect those that are discriminated against, are harassed or victimised.

You are no doubt a strong character and have found ways to get on in life, not every victim is able to do that. We need to help all victims without asking more of them.

QED

All your posts have focused on what Mel should have done, when the ACTUAL POINT is it should never have happened in the first place.

That's why you're coming across as victim blaming and making excuses for Gayle.

Be a man and just say Gayle was sexist, it should never have happened. It's as simple as that.

Because if you don't do something..The situation gets a lot worse.

Once that Red Light goes on..Then it is ON

In a perfect world what you say above is correct. But that is not the reality we all have each day.

Yes i have been discriminated against at times and those who have done it have copped it straight back.

And guess what?? Not another word outa them.

Learnt this in the schoolyard

you stand up or get annihalated.

The perfect scenario can only be used as a theory.

He is the one who said it; you paint him as either incredibly stupid or simple; what he is is responsible.  I agree with other posters that she simply should not have had to deal with it at all.

I think you are right, but there is a time and a place.

She is working on live TV, she is put upon, how should she react? What if she was interested but did not want to let on on national TV? It was simply the wrong time and place to make a pass like that. He should have waited until she was not working on live TV, he may have received a more positive outcome.

If he really wanted to go out with her he would have waited, so what he was infact doing was playing a power game, he intended to make her uncomfortable. Sleezebag!         Edit:- Gayle not you.

Not disputing the timing. It was a cheap shot from Gayle.

But if Mel had come back with a quick sharp reply then she would have become an instant hero

"don't blush, baby" - I have seen drinks thrown in faces for less obnoxious and arrogant comments than that.

I find his excuse of it being a "joke" as appalling as the action itself.

A sharp reply would have merely embarrassed him FURTHER on National TV

It is always a wonderful thing to watch moral outrage fester on Demonland.

In my view SWYL posted an opinion of a possible alternative behaviour, based on his experience, for the reporter.

Agree with it or not, but I fail to see any good reason for the personal bashing he has received because of it.

I wonder if Stu has a job or is he paid to police these boards.

My favourite bit is where Stu gets caught out arguing with one poster so just drops the ball and starts jumping on someone else.

I have to adjudicate that SWYL is quite correct on this matter.  Mel is supposed to be a professional journalist & this is not play school.  She should have been prepared with something to put Gayle right back in his box - being sharp & quick on your feet is the hallmark of  live journalism.  I'm sure that Leigh Sales or Caro Wilson would have embarrassed him on air quick smart.

Excuses and victim blaming STILL.

Have you even seen the interview? She clearly tells him she's not blushing. That should have been more than enough.

Gotcha, so sexual harassment in the workplace is totally fine, it's up to the person on the receiving end to sort it out not up to the perpetrator to just not do it...

    TRAINING: Monday 20th January 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator attended training out at Casey Fields to bring you the following observations from Preseason Training. GATOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS There were 5 in the main rehab group, namely Gawn, Petracca, Fullarton, Woewodin and Lever.  Laurie was running laps by himself, as was Jefferson.  Chandler, as has been reported, had his arm in a sling.  Lindsay did a bit of lap running later on. Some of the ''rehab 5'' participated in non contact drills and b

KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
