Frankly I question why we need a "clash" jumper and why we should be treated any different to Collingwood. We are the original (oldest) footy Club so, if the AFL in their wisdom (sic) feel anybody clashes with us, (which they don't) then let them wear a "clash" jumper.

I love the Collingwood comparesment, they have a black jumper with white stripes or a white jumper with black stripes. If you actually look at them next to each other they are different in how dark they look especially with black or white shorts.

So collingwood do wear a white away strip. It just looks close to their Home due to its only reversed.

and seriously other than some Melbourne fans, who gives a fruitcake that we are the oldest club??? No one. Wouldn't even cross their minds.

also, what was our original jumper? What was our original name? How about the jumper I grew up following? All changes we made.

Actually I would prefer to go back to black and white shorts which would be much more effective in the current age when there are no longer mud patches in the centre square and goal squares. Coupled with our red socks, why do we need a "clash jumper" (which often has the reverse effect of increasing the confusion)?

Given that the demon shop shows only the white jumper and it is listed as 'Away Jumper' it seems the red jumper has been binned. We only wore it once last season. The AFL have rules for some and rules for others. No surprises here.

interesting to note that when they designed the logo they were keen to avoid any white in the logo, yet we roll over on the white jumper. That irks me. We should be allowed to invert our jumper and wear with white shorts. It won't happen though

The bit I find bemusing is that, apparently, Essendon can have a clash jumper with just red & black, whereas Hawthorn, who are also in the news relating to their clash jumper, reckon they have been told theirs must be predominantly white.

Go figure...!!

Makes perfect sense. Hawthorn's gold and brown stripes clearly clash with Geelong, Carlton, Essendon, Collingwood, Melbourne, St Kilda, Bulldogs, North Melbourne, Port Adelaide, Fremantle, Gold Coast, GWS, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Richmond and maybe West Coast if you somehow can't differentiate vertical stripes from a jumper which, well, doesn't have vertical stripes.

Conversely, a predominately white jumper could clash with Collingwood, Geelong, St Kilda, North Melbourne and Sydney. What nonsense.

The EFC should be required to have a mosaic of white needles on their sash.

And, Barrie, of all the jumpers in the AFL Hawthorn are guaranteed never to clash with anything.

Who would choose colors remotely resembling those.

As with all things AFL, it is all about marketing and screwing $$$$ out of fans and families

I agree 100%, Mono.  Their strip clashes with nobody.  So, as you say, it can be only about $$$$...!

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
