As with everything in the AFL, they have yet to actually clarify this point, have left it as ambiguous as possible to be able to make a call one way or the other depending one what suits them at the time and will no doubt make a last minute decision which will screw us out of being able to trade out a future pick after having done so last year.

read the rules. doesn't look ambiguous to me

however, i wouldn't be the least bit surprised if they did their usual re-interpretation of the rules

A good one for the integrity squad to follow up on dc.

That will guarantee a report by 2018

This is carrying on from last year, i have absolutely no doubt we are right in the middle of this, just unsure how we are going to get the deal done without a first round pick,

Not that I would like to lose either of them but ... Jack Watts/Tommy Mac ?

Unless they decide to change the rules, we can use the 2017 first rounder. It's there in black and white.

So pick nine is available!!!!

"I'm not looking at it like I am leaving. I am looking at it as if I am going to be here for 10 years. I am the vice captain so I am not just sitting here taking a back seat thinking I might not be here, I might be here," Prestia said.

Wow. Just wow.

Yeah he's definitely gone. It's just a matter of where he goes.

Things that I have little doubt about:

That the MFC have shown very close interest in Prestia at some previous stage.

That this is hardly a secret and the Suns know full well about it.

That GC expect Dion to likely leave and would expect a first rounder in return.

That we have colluded frequently with at least one of the northern start-ups in the past.

Things I can't quite work out just yet:

Gold Coast's list strategy.

What relevance as to all of the above if any does our pick swapsies last trade period hold.

in what way? both players have currency that could be combined with picks/traded for picks to get GC what they need

I'd love him at the club... but I'll temper my excitement until I see how his body holds up this year.  If he struggles then I'd be happy for the club to steer clear, we can't afford to give up good stuff for a bloke who can't get himself on the park.

You are joking of course:   the 2016 premiers may get pick 20+

Gil et al will change the rules to allow poor struggling EssUndone and Carltank priority picks

Don't let them finish as far away as 10th (pick 9). 9th is their calling (pick 10). Mind you, after last night's carnage, they might be in line for pick 1 and a priority?

Maybe it's me but strangely I'm a little underwhelmed as such. If he comes and fit. Good. If not..we move on.

We've got a bit of talent to work with now. Don't need 'silver bullet' players any more.

Really not that fussed.

I'm with BB, I'm hoping that during the year we demonstrate that we are a desirable place to be. I want the guys that have bought into the team already to be rewarded and not pushed aside or asked to settle for less. This would I think degrade the culture and team being built. We are also going to need plenty of coin to retain the core that has been put together. So if Prestia wants to come, well and good, but no kitchen sink offers.

I do understand that we cannot stand still with list management but I think we are at a different point to where we have been (possibly since the 90's)

It is a different story with Rucks, I want another key tall defender who can back up ruck. I find i'm not as confident anymore in our back six as a unit as I was two years ago. Am happy to shop in this area, or be proved wrong with garland and tmac being consistent  (I love them both but don't know why they are not playing there best footy atm)

Yep. That's outrageously unveiled. It actually sounds like it was a pretty awkward conversation. It doesn't sound like he knows quite how to deal with it. Just put that Melbourne jumper on already, Dion.

Just an interesting tit bit FWIW (around zero).

Dion Prestia's management team is i50 and his manager is Marty Pask who also coaches VAFA B Section team AJAX. One of his players at that club is AJ Thurin, son of MFC Board member David Thurin.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
