SWYL, we are not struggling because of the new franchises.  WE are struggling because we keep allowing our club to get soft.  culture wise to take our eyes off the main prize & allow our players to chase wealth & career & not put the body in to be crunched for good of team.....

In short we develop individuals off field in careers & finance areas, self people.... not team people.   this is a BIG area of distraction, which becomes 'our boys' main game.

WTF has that got to do with poaching GC players back home??

and yes we know your theory on The Northern Stand Culture ad Nauseum.....

I'm referring to your constant hostility towards the new franchises SWYL.

....  the almost hatred of those clubs interstate..  yes we have so far lost our local tribalism,  but we can renew the tribalism with those interstate..  but not by wishing they folded.  but rather by disliking where/what they are... & embracing their existance,  & battling them onfield,  at our arenas.

the Gold coast & GWS wyll survive, & they'll grow. even if slowly.

Why not? Either of them would immediately make our team better and wouldn't require the development that a draft pick would. They're also both proven high-quality AFL players, whereas draft picks are purely speculative. By the time 2017 rolls around, we should be a very competitive side and be looking to top it off. Prestia/O'Meara would be ideal targets for us.

Hunting for a potential trade with Gold Coast for Prestia or Jaeger so far out just seems folly.

"Destined to pay overs" is how that reads to me.

The club has recently put extra funds and resources into developing players which I'm firmly of the opinion is the best thing going forward.

Trade and do deals only if the price is right.

Them and Essendon go, share picks amongst the other 16 teams, except our two and we have a reasonably clean comp again.

If a player is out of contract and they nominate a club of choice to be traded to, it's often the case that the deal is either even or favours the destination club. I'm sure that Mahoney knows what he's doing and won't pay overs if negotiations eventuate.

The funny thing is that, IMO, we are in the position to offer GC all our main draft picks, plus the first in the next year, if we wanted both of these boys. Subject to them being fit to play of course.

Not saying we would do this, but we could if necessary, as we have enough young players on the list and the rookie choices would still be there to be used if we still wanted a couple more youngsters.

IMO we now have a fair list and adding these two would be the cream on the cake. We could use one late pick,  to take the 3rd player required to be added in each year.

They'd just need to be fit. Damaged and I'm not interested.

No problems, Dion might be homesick soon.

not a fan Red,  of giving up all draft picks from any one season.  we have to have an age progression & development continue on every season.

.... clubs like the Saints come to mind trading away too heavily under Ross Lyon.....   If we trade a couple of picks,  or more,   but get return down-scaled picks,  we can still be in the game.

Sunrise on Channel 7 had something about O'Meara thinking about coming to a Melbourne based team this morning. I was in the gym so couldn't hear the words but read it on the captions. I couldn't work out just why he would be signaling that at the start of the season but maybe it is because his manager in in talks and let something slip to the media to help on the negotiations.

This is the article about Tom Lynch resigning  http://www.goldcoastfc.com.au/news/2016-02-02/media-reports-suggest-lynch-to-sign

It also mentions the following "(Mark) Robinson also writes the Lynch news comes as confidence grows that gun midfielders Dion Prestia and Jaeger O’Meara will also sign new deals."

Interesting Tom Lynch stats  :-

"Lynch booted 43.33 from 20 appearances in 2015, averaging 14.8 possessions, 6.7 marks, 3.6 inside 50s as well as wielding influence over the entire field with his presence.

The 23-year-old polled in 13 games, with a purple patch from round 17 to round 20 underpinning a brilliant season for the spearhead. Hauls of 46 and 43 goals in the last two years provide a launching pad to elevate his game further in 2016 and could see him enter the very top echelon of key forwards in the game in seasons to come."

We love our Jesse and I for one are very hopeful about Weideman but jeez this blokes pretty impressive and they've got Peter Wright building as well. I don't take much notice of GC so he hasn't been on my radar that much. Same for Prestia for that matter. Have barely seen him play. He's only 175cm. Pretty short for how the games played nowadays. Love the Jaegermeister.

Schwarz on SEN said differently this morning about O'Meara, while Chris Pelchen thinks we're the type of club that he'd want to come to.

Lynch shaded Hogan in 2015, but it was very close.  Same mark average, same goal average, 2.6 contested marks to 2.4 and 14.8 disposals to 13.

It was Lynch's 4th season.  Imagine Hogan in 2018.

Lynch is a very good player, but he lacks Hogan's aggression and isn't quite as skilfull by hand and foot in ground play.

Maybe its just me.. Im not that desperate to get either.

They may well be some icing on a cake or they could be the lame duck import of the year...or somewhere in between. God help us if we start throwing everything and the farm at them.

Our list is developing and it can always use some more experienced talent but we should tread warily from here on in. Contracts being next to useless is the new norm.

Get people who want to play for for sure. But lets be sensible as to how we do it.

I was impressed by the wheeler dealing this past trade period. If this ever develops and we get to a point of negotiating a trade I will be fascinated to see what it takes especially as the Suns already have our first pick in next year's draft. I will be incredibly impressed if they pull this one off. I have a feeling it will involve a player or players we won't be happy about losing. But still feels like an unlikely long shot.

People keep mentioning the Suns need points for Academy players so will accept later picks for points. I haven't read anything about them having academy players this year. Can anyone verify this. It would make a big difference if true.

They've got access to Jack Bowes, who by all reports is meant to be a gun.

I disagree.

Jaeger O'Meara is the best young mid I've ever seen enter the game.  His first year is without peer in my decades of watching footy.

Injury free and O'Meara would make our young developing midfield the envy of the competition.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
