Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

From what I was told during the week, expect Strnadica to be watched closely during the national champs.

Draft quality is apparently pretty tough to determine currently.

So a bit like spinning the wheel of fortune. Can we buy a vowel?

Seems to be a divide btw those who see him as a top 10 and those who see him outside top 30.

Lacks competitiveness, agility. Straight-line runner.

In the absence of a mighty surge by one of the outsiders, the top eight is now firmly set and more and more attention will be placed on this year's draft prospects.

Here are some of the better guides around the place ~

Callum Twomey’s Phantom Form Guide - June edition

AFL Draft | New No. 1 in updated Big Board

Unlike in previous seasons, there are no real standouts for #1 yet although a few good candidates emerged out of the national championships.

From Melbourne's perspective, we are a long way down the current draft order because we traded our first selection in this year's draft to secure an additional top ten pick and improve our draft position last year. I think that might well turn out to be a good move.

Of course, draft order will change dramatically during the trade period and the academy selections will also play a major role in how things pan out so we can expect interest in this area to mount over the coming months.

Agreed. It enabled us to get Weideman knowing there would be few of his type in this draft and would probably be gone before our 1st pick.

Our round 1 pick trading with GCS and GWS seems more of a masterstroke each day as the AFL now want to close the 'loophole' that allows Academy and F/S clubs to trade down picks to accumulate 'draft points' http://www.afl.com.au/news/2016-07-08/afl-looks-to-block-complex-draft-loophole (obviously Eddie has been agitating again!!:o).

The AFL had better decide this quickly as clubs would already be doing draft deals talking trades.

Such a rule change makes it harder for us (and other clubs) to find a 1st round pick should we need one for a trade eg Prestia/Hurley etc. And, clubs won't be so quick to trade out of the following years 1st round knowing it will be harder to get back into it.

But like all rules someone will find a way to exploit them!!

At least, last year we made hay while the sun shone:rolleyes:

Shouldn't be allowed to happen. I thought it worked well last year and added interest to the trading period.

Classic AFL.

Clubs would have spent all year working on this proviso and the rules change less than five months before the draft?

There is sweet irony at work here!

It seems there were clandestine draft dealings attempted between 'Grubby' Allen and Collingwood over the Treloar trade last year.  The idea apparently was to get Treloar to Pies for their 2015 1st round draft pick and guarantee himself a nice little job at the Pies.  http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/afl-season-2016-gws-versus-collingwood--the-new-kids-on-the-block-against-a-football-powerhouse-20160708-gq1tg7.html

When the tiges found out they called 'foul' and went to the top, David Matthews.  He made Collingwood sweeten the deal and get two 1st round picks.  This is where the irony comes in:  There are two Father/Sons in this years draft: son of past Captain Gavin Brown and son of star Peter Daicos. Brown is said to be high up in the order with Daicos not too far behind.  The 2016 top 10 pick they used for Treloar would come in handy, eh!

If the new rule comes in they will find it difficult to trade up and to get in enough points to get both players!

They may have to trade their 1st round 2017 pick. Its like using a credit card to pay the mortgage!

When you get into August and your team's out of contention for the finals, then you really start looking forward to this -

Callum Twomey's Phantom Form Guide - August Edition

The conundrum is what do you do when your club's first pick is likely to be closer to 30 this year than the number to which you've become accustomed?

From the west : Should have a look for a later draft pick at Griffen Logue and Zac Fisher. Both Guildford Grammar products. Carlton and tigers been keeping a close eye on. Fisher has dominated at league level with Perth and is good at gathering the ball. Good user. Josh Cipro is a cousin to petracca and has similar frame. Had illness during carnival, so has been restricted. Like a bull out the gate type. One could be available later in draft. Logue could be a future swing man, big fella and big tank, takes hangers and kicks straight.

Shai Bolton is a very good prospect and pepper is a hard nut.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
