The 2016 Fixture

Featured Replies

Yes we play Saints at Etihad as a home game, not ideal, we also play the Bombers at the G as an away game.

The filth play two home games at Etihad, it's not just us. One vs North.

I can stomach everything in our fixture except the 2 games at Etihad against the Saints. That is just BS from the AFL, that would never be accepted by another club.

I agree but would add the late Sunday game against the Dogs, it is like the AFL set us up to have small crowds just to justify putting us bad time slots where no one draws a good crowd.

Hang on a minute... we only play the Bombers, Blues and Lions once

Arent all bottom 6 teams supposed to play each other twice? The AFL makes less sense with every year that passes

Yep, we've been stitched up.

However the groupthink seems to be 'stop being crap' and we will be rewarded.

If only it were that simple...

I've never read so much negativity. You guys are so depressing expecting the AFL to hand it to us. Who cares about the draw, and nuff nuffs who are to up themselves to go to Etihad are supporters we don't need.

I think you'll find most of those nuff nuffs are MCC members, including myself, most of which would not go near Etihad.

If they were not needed, we might have what? 12,000 members?

What a shockingly uninformed comment. Round 23 on a Sunday (Fathers Day) at 1:10pm against a pathetic club like GWS in a year when we had played poorly in the second half. Great scheduling.

But keep blaming your fellow supporters who pay their money for memberships each year. I buy 6 memberships each year and if I choose not to go its none of your stinking business. Maybe I might not buy memberships next year and see how the club goes.

A crowd of 9,000 is a disgrace in this day in age.

It's not the late 80's - early 90's anymore. Memberships have generally increased by the year and so too should the crowds.

We should've got at least 13-15,000 that day. No excuses.

Do you think getting pitiful crowds like this one are going to help us get a better commercial draw in the future?

Sometimes we've got to help ourselves.

On the contrary, terrible attendances embarrass the AFL. We refused to support the AFL's GWS@Etihad fuxture, and now it's gone.

Your argument is that to overcome terrible working conditions, one must Work Harder!

...Bullshït! Strike!!!

The bloke wot put the fixture together (using whiz-bang Canadian s/ware) was interviewed on SEN this arvo.

He claimed that the 6-6-6 arrangement had been maintained. My understanding was that, in our case, we'd play the top 6 once, the next six once, and the 5 other teams in our six twice (22 games).

Well, that's not happening.

Doesn't matter we will win more games than we lose

We seemed to do better this year against the middle 6 than the bottom 6 weirdly...?

We might need to win that last game at Geelong to make the 8....In that case we can all go down the highway and climb the fence.....seriously how are 50,000 of our fans going to get into that stupid ground!!

Won't say no to playing Norf at Bellerive though. My kids may just attend their first AFL match.

I reckon I can get down to Tas for that game. Any chance of providing a couch for a fellow d'lander Gnash?

Hopefully a very sturdy couch, covered in plastic to avoid the need for degreasing, steam cleaning and disinfecting after victory.

hes ben sicking to hard on the Maple Syrup me thinks.

Home games against Essendon, Carlton and Hawthorn.

No Etihad home games.

NT games against interstate sides.

Home game against Geelong.

Play Collingwood twice.

2x Friday night games.

2x Saturday night games.

No Sunday 4:40pm games.

No 1:10pm game on Mother's Day.

Missed it by that much!

The AfL is still all about deflections of the facts.

Not all that fussed. Seems a tougher draw than last year, but didn't the Hawks play the top 7 early rounds recently and win 6? We simply need to win, anywhere, anytime.

Bring it on.

Going to be at that one too. The Dees in Hobart! Going with my mad keen Richmond mate to the Friday nighter as well.

Also a big pat on the back to the AFL for having no interest in showcasing the best young talent in the game, Jesse Hogan, on Friday night footy in 2016.

Brilliant stuff.

No that's not how it works. If you're in the bottom 6 you play 2-3 of those in your third of the ladder twice, 1-2 of the middle third twice anf 0-1 of the top third twice. The afl would never implement a fixture that didn't leave it open to their manipulation to still get the blockbusters/derbies etc twice a year.

1987 revisited?

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.
