1 post per 50 in this thread is actually about Clayton. Looking forward to seeing him debut this week.

One could, reading the last few pages, easily forget that this is a Clayton Oliver thread.

Mods - how about setting up a pinned "personal abuse and bickering" thread?

I agree. All threads should generally contain more comments about people commenting on other people's content, and whether it is acceptably close to the title of the thread or not. That is the type of quality people come here to read and moderators should be enforcing.

Q. In your mind, if someone mentions the MCC or anything not specific to the title, and I have a response, do I have to go start a new thread for it? Or is it possible that maybe your brilliant mind can tolerate a slight, brief deviation from the topic you were just reading? Is that really so much to ask of you and your busy schedule?

You've become a bitter old man way too early, Stak. Cheer up mate, we haven't even lost a game yet.

I responded to this and it was deleted. Apparently one person blatantly trolling another is fine but defending yourself is not.

No, it's abuse that's not. And any further hijacking of this thread to whine about deletions will, of course, be deleted.

Back to the thread... this bloke looks like a serious socks-down footballer. It's such a relief not see stick figures out there wearing the red-and-blue. Who knows how he'll go, but he's a chance

I genuinely believe he could be our best midfielder in a couple of years time. Even better than Brayshaw and Viney (I see Petracca as more a fwd/mid)

You know SWYL, having shared a few beers with you during the broadcast of a game, and sampled your fiery (passionate) disposition when the Dees play, I never pegged you as a MCC member.

Never judge a book hey....

That's why i love being an MCC Member mate..

during Uni days i starved myself so i could pay that subscription!!

I think your implied stereotype of an MCC member is way off beam.

I will take your word on that.

Don't want to hijack the MCC thread, but does anyone have info on whether Oliver will play on ball, or will he play across half forward this week?

Welcome Clayton Oliver annnnnnnnnnn d, come on Downnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!!

Great opportunity to give the kid a real taste of senior footy over the coming weeks.  I don't see him getting a gig in Round 1 but he'll know a bit about what it takes at the highest level and hopefully spur him on to earn his spot early in the season.

Will be nice to see him tackle Wines or ToumpAs into the ground this weekend

Every chance to be this years smokey and play more games than expected as Brayshaw did last year.

I am an MCC member but also get the MFC membership to support the footy club.  The way I see it the club needs my membership and I give the MCC membership a flogging during the summer.  Big Bash, test match and ODIs for me and the young fellow add up to a heap of attendance.

There are a high note number of MCC members who religiously take out a MFC membership as well. In the MCC reserve there are the same passionate supporters every week we play there, packing the Reserve when the often other sections of the ground are nearly empty. I never miss a Dees match at the G where in contrast I haven't attended a cricket match in 49 years of MCC membership.

Back onto Oliver, I can't wait to watch him debut this Saturday as we towel the Power and, like many on this thread, see him playing as many games this year as Brayshaw did but having an even greater impact. Shame it's not at the "G" but still fun down the pub with a few mates over a late counter.

Not sure it was RFPC that accused Hogan of being a mercenary, think it was the Nut but could be wrong.  Don't care really.

Not guilty .....

I don't know why the MCC members, the ones who fork out the most every year to see the Dees play, are considered to be the least knowledgeable supporters

I'm an MCC member and have no knowledge whatsoever...

Excited to see Oliver this weekend. I think his performance will be similar to the intra-club match. Have an impact and win a lot of contested ball in first half but tire in the second half.

The guy is a monster. His number one asset as a player will be the ability to get his arms free and handball over his opponents to our team mates. Will be a contested beast.

Really excited to see Clayton get a run, very happy to eat some humble pie and admit i think we made the right call choosing him over Parish.

  • PREVIEW: Geelong

"It's officially time for some alarm bells. I'm concerned about the lack of impact from their best players." This comment about one of the teams contesting this Friday night’s game came earlier in the week from a so-called expert radio commentator by the name of Kane Cornes. He wasn’t referring to the Melbourne Football Club but rather, this week’s home side, Geelong. The Cats are purring along with 1 win and 2 defeats and a percentage of 126.2 (courtesy of a big win at GMHBA Stadium in Round 1 vs Fremantle) which is one win more than Melbourne and double the percentage so I guess that, in the case of the Demons, its not just alarm bells, but distress signals. But don’t rely on me. Listen to Cornes who said this week about Melbourne:- “They can’t run. If you can’t run at speed and get out of the contest then you’re in trouble.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit.
Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

For a brief period of time in the early afternoon of yesterday, the Casey Demons occupied top place on the Smithy’s VFL table. This was only made possible by virtue of the fact that the team was the only one in this crazy competition to have played twice and it’s 1½ wins gave it an unassailable lead on the other 20 teams, some of who had yet to play a game.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

In my all-time nightmare game, the team is so ill-disciplined that it concedes its first two goals with the courtesy of not one, but two, fifty metre penalties while opening its own scoring with four behinds in a row and losing a talented youngster with good decision-making skills and a lethal left foot kick, subbed off in the first quarter with what looks like a bad knee injury.
