it doesn't make sense comparing Cotchin to Jones - very different types of players. In terms of value to his side on a week to week basis I'd choose Chunk any day of the week.

You never have been one to shy away from the grand statement. That is what got you in hot water on the subject of this thread if I recall...

The comparison right now is of slightly more interest to who you'd pick in 2012. Hence why 2014 is a reasonable means of comparison, given what we now know about Jones' injury affected 2015.

Anyway, back to Oliver.

Oliver (by reputation) certainly signals a continuation of a very un-Melbourne direction. I hope he is as crazy at the ball as we have heard. Madmen with skill, win finals.

I would say that Brayshaw, Viney, Tyson, VDB & Salem have already surpassed those on that list with the exception of Trenners who we can hopefully add to the new list with Oliver & Petracca.

We're already ahead of where we were and moving further forward...

I cannot wait to see him play, he seems to have poise that even when facing someone tackling him, he has time to side step, or the strength to still get the ball away. He seems to like to move the ball on quickly and not afraid to tackle and appears hungry for the ball. All excellent attributed that we have lacked in some of our previous mid fielders.

The One thing I noticed startingly was his turn of speed with the ball through heavy traffic! My esteemed Colleague Dazzle man also noticed this!  In many of my vids of "Sir Robert" one thing stood as stark reminder of class and that was the ability to see peripherally those around you and decide in a blink of an eye which way to weave to esape heavy scrutiny from opposition! Probably why Rob lasted so long in the more brutal era's with not too much body damage!

Oliver has I believe, the same 'Uncanny Time" and if he matures as I expect him to will become One of the "Darlings" of the MFC young brigade!

I mean't that I believe his style of play will be more inside grunt and physically hurting opponents like we saw in Ricciuto, than the tear away pace from a stoppage or forward of the play we see from Dangerfield.

He has poise which is rare for someone so physical.

Ricciuto is one of my all time no Melbourne players and I think Clayton's 'style' may be similar, or, more comparable than Dangerfield.
