Agree, whats the fuss about? Looks like mrs average.

Liked the look of White, and was surprised at his size.

Its nice to have another option off half back, but can he play a shutdown role?

Picket?

They've used him in that role at Casey...he's had some success but of course is a work in progress.

Grimes very good?! Better than White?!

White at 16 very clean possessions yesterday and blew away my expectations. I was disappointed when we subbed him off truth be told.

It's incredibly lucky Grimes has a year left on his contract, his decision making and execution were nothing short of embarrassing yesterday. He dropped two basic marks that cost us goals, his handballs always put a teammate under pressure.

Not too mention the most frustrating thing about him is whenever we switch, or he received the ball in a dangerous position he doesn't move on the ball with any pace at all. Backwards ball movement or slowly jogging back and kicking a 35m down the line are his only options.

Incredibly frustrating player and respect his service to the club, but will be happy when other players have overtaken him.

His first half was average to poor, his second half I thought was pretty good.

Don't give me this rubbish of Grimes getting 24 disposals when 20 of them were pretty much turnovers

Well that's obviously not true is it, so it is clear who is talking rubbish

Spot on Arrow. White was struggling to run heading to the bench when he was subbed though, so I suspect it was a good sub. The main difference between Grimes and White will be that Grimes has the fitness for AFL, unfortunately that's about all he has.

The good news I guess is that Grimes should at least know where he stands for preseason. Ie. he's pretty much done as an AFL player unless he gets his speed, decision making and skill up. The club will know it as well so there's no reason to sugar coat it. We also know he'll give his all for 4 quarters even if he doesn't have much to give.

He did kick an important goal in the 3rd quarter and hit a few more targets in the second half as the game opened up. He was good against Freo as well after coming on when a bit of heat had gone from the game. So the challenge is for White to have a big preseason so he's in the picture as a regular player.

Our backline was probably our best group when Roos arrived which means we stuck with the same players whilst the midfield and forward line have been largely turned over. Last year we recruited Frost, White and O Mc for the backline and sent Salem back there, next year we will probably see more of that group.

Nah mate.

Its as clear as daylight. Grimes couldn't even hit a target leading towards him in the 3rd qtr 30m away.

When we have momentum he absolutely kills us.

The reason we've been so crap is because players like Grimes have been our supposed better players.

That's bs. No one is saying he's amongst our better players. The best way to not be so crap is to improve our midfield and get/develop a bunch of A grade mids. Grimes will not effect that.

Just for a little injection of reality here. Grimes had 3 clangers. White had 2. That still gives Grimes the better result by a fair margin. Ignoring your bias, Grimes has repeatedly stood up when needed this year and is a far better defender than any of you give him credit for. White has the potential to go past him, but he's nowhere near it yet.

20 of his 24 disposals were not turnovers Dazzle. You were wrong. As much as it hurts me to agree with C&B.

Btw I don't think the two players are either/or. I look forward to both of them developing and improving next year.

For us too improve and move forward guys like Grimes simply cannot be getting games for us.

He has had 7 years to improve and get better. He is a poor decision maker, no awareness, poor foot skills, he goes into a fit of panick when he has the ball and instead of trying to move it on quickly he either stops or runs himself into trouble.

He is not in our best 22

He's better than Garland

If White and vandenBerg both end up as good players then we have had a great rookie draft.

If Harmes and King also end up as good players then we have had a superb "Rookie Draft"!

Harmes and King were from the previous rookie draft (along with Alex Georgiou - how long ago does that seem now?).

I've been a Grimes fan and shattered he got so many injuries.

Did injuries make him a lesser player or did his absence/injuries cover his flaws?

Whatever the case, the fact is he regularly gives hospital handpasses, looks sideways/backwards or misses the target now.

He doesn't give the ball to advantage and he is as small and physically weak as I can remember.

If you were his teammate, you can't trust him.

Last game, i was anxious about White and Grimes having the ball.

White has played 1 game. Grimes 100.

White is more upside.

Really interested with what they do with White.

Prime candidate to be kept on that awful RL for another year though.

Vanders will be up to the PL and surely Harmes now too.

King will probably get his third year on the RL requested by the club.

I don't mean now.

He wouldn't have been named captain if he wasn't considered one of our better players.

Surely this is obvious...

Grimes was horrible yesterday. Dont want to put a damper on the win but he wont be in our starting 22 next year. He continues to make very critical errors that result in goals and turnovers.

Don't give me this rubbish of Grimes getting 24 disposals when 20 of them were pretty much turnovers. Take your rosy coloured glasses off.

White already has better disposal and seem alot calmer then the panicky Grimes. After a full pre season he along with Salem will be one of our better kickers off a half back.

f

Frankly that is rubbish and I can't believe it.

I did miss the first quarter and I gather he dropped a mark which was costly. But while I was watching Grimes was fine. I'm starting to think the wing suits him. He kicked a good goal.

I think you are being critical of a bloke who gets the ball under pressure. That's right--he gets the ball. Sometimes you have no choice but to get it and kick it quickly. He had to do it several times yesterday, but he didn't hold onto the ball and get caught (as some do). A bunch of his passes were perfect. If he was the worst we had it would be a great team. Not the slightest bit critical of White but it is a different issue.

You could tell he's a guy plucked from the fringes because of his uncommon body shape for an AFL player, but in my eyes that was a promising debut, looks like a neat left foot kick (with no right, admittedly).

As for Grimes, I thought he started poorly but was promising later on. I really doubted his ability to go upfield a couple of years ago but he looks like he wants to be out there, run and contribute. There's conflicting opinion about Grimes on this forum but I've seen signs this season that he's turned the corner and is fulfilling some of the hype surrounding him in his first couple of seasons. At the very least going forward he could be a depth player with some experience.

Having just watched the game again, I can safely say that the Grimes Bashers have absolutely no F***ing idea what they're talking about. He dropped a mark and cost us a goal. That's his one big mistake from that game. Quite a few of the more popular players also cost us goals doing stupid things, but they don't rate a mention apparently. As for turnovers, you can't blame him when he gets a hospital pass and manages to get the ball away legally in the half second before he's hit. That's on the person passing to him (yes Nate Jones, I'm talking about you). That may count as a disposal error, but the reality is that it's someone elses mistake that's being added to his tally.

The reality is that he's simply the latest whipping boy for the usual suspects who need someone to rag on.

I dont get the Grimes bashing either. His disposal has improved this season, why are people not mentioning that? That spoil and goal from the boundary was great

I agree with all this and still we need better weapons of half back

Line breakers with good decision making

Grimes has improved but I cant see him getting much better

White is 188 / 88 as well which gives him a physical advantage
