MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 23

Featured Replies

Hope the dees don't ruin my bloody Father's Day but I ain't holding my breath.

It will be carnage.

Yep, it will be a very long flight home for a humbled GWS outfit.

Tyson reinjured his hamstring last week.

Pretty sure JKH playing will rule him out of VFL finals. Think he may have benefitted more from playing finals footy for Casey.

As I have said before Casey are Irrelevant!

I would really like to support the team by attending the game but don't want to spoil it for my kids on Fathers Day. I expect we'll lose (and by some margin) so better I stay home and watch it on Foxtel, besides I hate the Dome. At home I can watch the first quarter and turn it off once the game is decided (recently that hasn't been all that long into the match).

It's an important day to spend with your young kids and I don't want to be angry or upset. The result has nothing to do with them. But a miss-kick from Grimes or a weak effort from Watts will p^&* me off. Bound to happen so better not to be there or watch....gee I hope we can recruit some better players but this competition is just so fierce.

I did feel this way before the Cats game and I never turned the TV off that day...kids were happy I was in a good mood too

Jeremy Howe farewell game?

Who!?

Howe sad

Who!?

Picket!! 2 posts, and NO mention of White's debut, being in the squad, on the ground, from the bounce, on the wing????

Wassup fella? You ok? Where's the passion gone??

OK. Just saw the 'White to debut' thread. Forget above post. Enjoy the night in the tent Picket!

I'm one tip behind the leader in my work comp but with a better points differential. I need to catch up one to win but don't know which rough to go. Either us or Cats. any thoughts?

Ironic that the last two games of the H&A season - after everyone's moved on to next week - will be the most exciting.

I actually went to the Bulldogs-GWS game last year under identical circumstances. Both sides threw the kitchen sink at each other knowing there was no tomorrow.

I'd love to see the same this year but our pattern of recent form suggests otherwise.

Going with the old man for fathers day.. We won't leaving the bar I would of thought!

There's about 10 players in that team that shouldn't be getting games next season if we're serious.

If we pull off a win, would you like to list them for us on Monday?

Just for you!

:blink::wub::rolleyes:

Not as excited as me!

Ok I have rated this bloke for a long while

Without wishing to put the mozz on

1 He has a cool head

2 Silky smooth left footer

3 Plays taller than is

4 Shows no fear

5 Has run and carry

6 Reads play exceptionally well

7 Loves sneaking forward to snare a goal!

Start salivating!

In fact I haven't been this excited since I saw Jane Bunn last night doing the weather report in that beautiful pink dress!

Sub bench for me Watts, Newton, Nev and take your pick!

GWS are missing the following from their best 22. The ones in bold were in their best when they played us in round 2.

Mumford

Coniglio

Shiel

Scully

Griffen

Patfull

Davis

Hoskin-Elliott

Haynes

It's pretty ugly isn't it

'grim' and 'bleak' are two other words that spring to mind

huge injury list though, I would make 8 changes straight up if everyone was fit, is the only saving grace

I am prepared for any eventuality this Sunday. I have a near full bottle of Oban single malt whiskey.

ps I am not an alcoholic.............. yet

You must be a new Melbourne member.....................give it a couple more years and you will be a dyed in the alco, ha ha

Wow the opportunity to break the Etihad curse.

An injury stricken GWS team.

The chance to finish the season with 7 wins and let Demon fans enter the off-season with a smile.

Farewell a legend in Cross.

GWS by 50 points

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
