Rumours swirling around that Buddy's on the nose and not that popular with the playing group. Be very interesting if the Swans trade ban is lifted to see which way they swing - a very interesting cultural decision to be made.

Good luck trying to trade Buddy with that toxic contract

But the trade ban is AFL policy : surely they would never make an off the cuff knee jerk decision on such an issue. Surely not?

the same thought process you go through after a sherry post tennis at Burwood on a Wednesday arvo.

In the end you ravage the yes vote like refugees on the Island of Lesbos.

Anyone who watches football would.

I wouldn't.

I reckon Tippett's incredibly overrated. Benefits hugely from having Franklin there to make him the second forward.

Super slow, as bad a mark as Dawes, and nothing special around the ground.

I wouldn't be enthused by Tippett and I certainly wouldn't go near him at anything other than a very cheap price.

Use you're imagination. There are a number of rumours some of which are conflated so its hard to keep track, but in short Buddy has a number of issues to deal with and is perhaps persona non grata at the club at the minute.

I don't think Buddy would be silly enough to let a member of the public see him snort illegal substances at the races.

Did you see his game on Saturday sans-Franklin? Did you see his 2012 season at the Crows? He is light years ahead as a second forward/second ruck option than anything we have or could really hope to get. I doubt we will get him so it's mainly a hypothetical argument but for a Melbourne supporter to turn their nose up at Tippett because we have Dawes, Fitzpatrick and an ageing Pedersen is frankly unfathomable.

Still think Horse is having trouble with Fwd line balance between Buddy and Tippett.

We would love that sort of balance. however a NO from me...

I can not see the excitement for Tippett !

I like his footy when he first came onto the scene way back with the Crows, but he went OFF... then eventually, went to Sydney, & to me he's done nothing... what is it I'm missing in the excitement for him ?

I admit I don't watch much anymore, but I don't hear or see any true excitement for this guy about his football. does he still have the desire for the game to achieve his original standard; or is he just after dollars. ?????

The rumour I've heard about Buddy which, when it comes out (and I suspect it will), will probably blow up his engagement to JC (if she has a brain) and will really trouble the Swans and their addiction to having a decent club culture.

Another rumour associated with it is that media have the story but the Swans took out an injunction to stop it going to air (or more likely called in some favours).

Ideally matched couple I would have thought. Narcism incarnate. So much for their no DHs policy. This is the same reason I don't want Bennell, highly talented player but someone with some pretty serious off field issues that has shown no inclination to do anything about it. For all intents and purposes a cultural time bomb.

I didn't say Dawes or Pedersen were better options, but given the price that it would take to get Tippett, I wouldn't necessarily want him.

Yes he played well on the weekend, but I felt his 2015 (and 2014) were underwhelming. I'm not really sure his 2012 season for Adelaide is relevant much - Dawes had a good 2012 season for Collingwood too.

Franklin signing has been nothing but a circus. If I was tippet I would be keeping my options open.

Tippett is 29 next year. Why would we go after him given when we are still 2-5 years away from challenging? Picking up older players like Cross makes sense when they don't cost much in terms of salary cap and draft picks, but it makes no sense otherwise.

Besides, I still feel we would be better off playing Tom McDonald as a second ruckman. I thought he was good in the role against the Dogs when we were killed at Etihad. He can provide a reasonable contest in the ruck and is a mobile, marking threat around the ground.

Pederson was good in a number of games also.

The aim is for finals next year. That's what PJ, Roosy, Goodwin et al. have set the bar at. Players such as Hogan, Viney are intent on getting there sooner not later. I like that attitude. Sometimes players 29-33 are when they're playing their best football. Age doesn't concern me when 'challenging' is sooner rather than later. And sometimes these decisions actually help team performance in the interim rather than 'down the track.'

I agree with Pederson re: this season and last year. And I'd prefer McDonald down back for stability and am keen on Sam Frost and what he has to offer next year. My main concern is where Dawes is at in terms of output and our second ruck/forward option.

Something very fishy going on with the whole Buddy ordeal..

So. What is new? This deal has always been very piscatorial.

If Frankenstein doesn't play again then Tippett would become king pin up there and may want to stay.

Unless the entire no DH policy has collapsed since Roos left and BF was picked up on that ridiculous deal, in which case could there be a mass exodus?

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
