Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

How many duds? Or will it take another 3 years to get rid of them

To go:

Bail - honest trier with no skill and little football smarts.

Michie - had his best game in a long time on the weekend, but too little too late. Not good enough.

McKenzie - as with Bail, tries his heart out but far too limited. VFL dominance does not translate to AFL form for him.

Spencer - has had long enough imo. Will only work as a number one ruck (if ever), and that is now Gawn. Need the spot for another ruck prospect.

Hunt - hasn't cracked a senior game since being drafted in 2013. Wouldn't think he'd get an extension.

Jones - has had long enough to show that he isn't up to it. Can't doubt his endeavour though.

Terlich - Roos clearly doesn't like him, though I did once upon a time. Good VFL player.

Jamar - cooked and clearly no longer in favour. Will get a spot at another club I think.

Very close, but worth holding onto:

Toumpas - I still think Jimmy can do it, and I hope Roos and co can still turn him around. Too much skill to throw away yet.

Lumumba - Needs a year to adjust to the different team mates and style of play, I think. We'll see a better player next year.

Dawes - Fierce competitor but not up to it aerially. I hope we are searching for an upgrade, but I do like him as a person.

Newton - Provides depth and has shown promise. Needs to string together some senior games though.

Kennedy-Harris - has some wicked attributes but needs to work harder, as well as stay fit. Hoping to see this next year.

Petracca - dodgy knee, looks overweight, too arrogant. I'd be close to having him delisted but think they will persevere with him.

Now 'Django', you are taking the p....here surely.

I think he was seeing if anyone actually reads his post, because other than that is is just purely looking for a reaction.

I wonder what part emotion plays? Not ours, but that of the footy department. I suspect if I was involved in getting Michie, Newton and any other player to the club, I'd be keen to keep them on the list because (a) I thought they were worth getting in the first place and (b) letting them go would be a form of admitting that I'd made a mistake as they were not good selections in the first place.

So, if was on the list prior to Roos coming to the club and not getting a regular game, I'd be very nervous about my future right now. On the other hand, if I came to the club in the last two years, I'd be a little less concerned.

If that plays a part, there definitely needs to be an investigation into the football department.

We all make mistakes, admit them, move on.

Duds.

Bail, Mckenzie, Fitzpatrick, Terlich, M Jones.

We won't miss any of these 5.. They barely played 20 between them this year..

All been on this list long enough to establish themselves.. Clearly not good enough..

Riley, Toumpus & Michie not far off the 5 above..

As limited as Grimes is.. At least he can read the play..

It is easier to have who we keep rather than who goes. Based on this years performance, guys that are AFL standard in best 22

Backs: Jetta MacDonald Salam

Mids: N Jones, Vince, Viney, Brayshaw, Watts, Vanderburg, Tyson(this year has been disappointing)

Forwards: Hogan, Kent, Garlett(although would like to see more from and square rather than cheap goals out the back)

Rucks Gawn

Young and Developing

Petracca, King, ANB, Stretch, Harmes, JKH, Hunt, O Macdonald, Frost, Toumpas, White

Injured

Trengove

Need to Keep for mature heads

Dawes, H, Dunn, Garland, Grimes, Pederson

Borderline

Newton, Michie, Riley, Spencer

I think the rest are gone

I don't think it's entirely the fault of individuals.

As with Hawthorn when they lose a couple of players and a player comes in to the team as depth, they are told in no uncertain terms what to do, where to run, who to cover etc. They have a winning culture. When they are tested they dig in and fight back. There have been at least two examples of their resolve this year.

The biggest disapointment on the weekend was the last quarter. This was when our losing culture shone brightly for all to see.

We are showing signs of improvement in 3 of the last 8 quarters we have played, but our mistakes and lack of desire to hold on in the last quarter was shocking. This goes to the responsibility of the leaders and not the lesser players. Old habits aren't necessarily the fault of the individuals that people seem willing to highlight week in week out.

In fact I would think that swap a Matt Jones into the Hawks line-up for a day and there would be no difference to their result.

I saw two instances of this. One when Dunn was kicking out and the other when Watts turned it over in the last. Jones and McDonald in both instances were walking with their back to the play and crowding space. I've never seen the Hawks or any good team do that. If you're in range of the kicker you either make a lead or shepherd or get the $$$3## out of the way so someone can lead into the space you're clogging up. Jones was actually by himself but was tired and didn't even want the pill.

Thats our leaders. Thats our culture.

I'm not saying trade out Jones or Mc

Yes I was having a laugh, and just seeing if anyone would read it.

JKH though, does have to lift IMO.

Ah yes, the famous "just joking" defence. Not sure if everyone on the Demonland jury will believe you, though.

Lol. I don't think even the most deluded of Demonland posters, or the likes of Olisik and h_h, could have that kind of opinion of Petracca.

Agree on JKH...I'm not sure he is going to make it. Just not enough tricks and misses too many easy shots on goal from limited opportunities. I guess time will tell.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
