GAME DAY - Round 16

Geez I enjoy watching Gus and Viney tackle

Good opening half in a pretty ugly affair.

Plenty to like from the boys and, apart from clearances, we well and truly have them covered. We need to come out in the third term and put them away.

I have a feeling we'll win

This inevitably means we'll lose by 10 goals and Melbourne supporters will be on suicide watch again this week

especially since the Suns lost again. lets see how the Lions go today?

Harmes looks like a solid player

Id sub in ANB for Lumumba or JKH sooner rather than later

Keep it going Dees

Surprised JKH didnt get subbed half way through the quarter

Sub him late in the third or at the start of the 4th. We are well in front, no need to sub him too early on for a player to go down injured.

They're walking away from the clearances... Hope we can keep that under control in the second half

When was the last time we kept a side to one goal in a half?

Don't write off Brisbane just yet. They're doing well at stoppages and out tackling us. If they can straighten up and be more coherent going forward, they'll turn it on.

Must keep applying same level of pressure behind the ball like we have been. Too much space in the middle and they'll easily outrun us and get on a roll.

Hope Aish is getting a good look at the workload needed when he joins the dees next year

Surprised JKH didnt get subbed half way through the quarter

He is starting to do a few good things, and a too early sub is pretty risky.

Just saw the Harmes McDonald goal

Great stuff

Harmes grabbing his chance. Very smart play

Never took his eyes off the ball

Where is the Prince? Three possessions!

They were always going to do that with their midfield. As has been their problem all year they literally have nothing going forward, so as long as we pressure them they will find it very hard to score.

Plus we have a few mids who can lift as well in that area in the second half.

JKH responded well to that dropped mark which almost cost us a goal. He's still a depth player, nothing more. Only in the side because Kent isn't. Still, I'm glad he took the game on after an embarrassing brain fart. He [censored] himself at that contest.

Nah. Got to give him a chance. Give him a spray at half time and see how he responds.

No point wasting the sub that early

Playing mostly on McStay, whose had 1 touch. The Prince is well and truly doing his job.

dont agree on this one, its gonna blow out big time

Low quality game which we are dominating

Better use of the footy going forward would be nice.

I know he hasn't done a lot today, but I rate him. I wonder what he'd cost (pick wise)?

Must play a solid 4 quarters, means nothing if we let them back in 2nd half

Yeah, some of those fwd 50 entries early in the first had me tearing my hair out.

Where is the Prince? Three possessions!

Still three more than Mitch got this weekend.

Keep up the match reports guys

No coverage at work

Thanks

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
