Bail & Jones did their jobs. If you'd seen much of Footscray this year you'd know that so much of the Dog's attack this season has been generated by the run & distribution off half back by Murphy, Johanniesen & Wood. Our two "spuds" significantly reduced their impact. Good planning from Roos.

How did Bail do his job. He was ineffectual at best. He had 5 disposals and missed a very gettable goal at the end of the 3rd.

Bails kick was after the siren, which surely meant from the players point of view it was too close to risk a pass in that situation.

Bear in mind that Bail has been burned before passing close to the siren. Cost us a win against the Pies that time. I have no problem with him taking the shot, but he needs to learn to kick better. Maybe join Gus and Jones in their competitions.

The Coaches votes are in as well:

Melbourne v Western Bulldogs

8 Nathan Jones (Melb)

8 Aaron vandenBerg (Melb)

5 Bernie Vince (Melb)

4 Jesse Hogan (Melb)

3 Luke Dahlhaus (WB)

1 Daniel Cross (Melb)

1 Cameron Pedersen (Melb)

Looks about right.

Great game wonderful to watch and one of the best and most conssitant matches I have seen from us in a very e.

Fitzy was great (and for anyone who has read the Farseer trilogy, Fitz's new nickname should become the assassin!)

Spencer had the best game i have ever seen from him, the tapwork was great and the mongrel was huge for us. kicked well this week and looks to have found some confidence

Hogan... well The hulk is the best thing to happen to this club in living memory, and the difference he makes to the side, the way he straightens up the way we play is enormous. he is not just a full forward to this team, many times he was up the field, making the contest and doing the right things.

vanDemon will go down as one of the best rookie pickups of all time the pressure he applied was fantastic.

the Toump will gain lots of confidence that he can actually play this game from that performance which is great

The transformation of Vince into a tagger has been a revelation and he seems perfect for this role, freeing up Jones(who performed this most of last year) to do his thing.

Pederson is great, and so much more valuable than doors, especially as he is flexable where he plays and can actually mark a footy.

Brayshaw keeps blossoming, and the fact he had a killer final qurter is a fantastic sign from a young kid.

Jones was his usual (2012-2014) self

Cross, Dunn, Garland, T mac were their usual selves, the great defence we have seen all year

a few matches under grimes belt and he is starting to remember how to play the game again

Watts did not get a heap of the ball, but when he did, and what he did with it was brilliant.

Howe looked good again in the forward line, and some passion that had been recently missing seemed to return

Newton Garlett and Lumumbia were both servicable

The last quarter when reily came on was a good display, and I look forward to seeing more

Matt jones had a good third quarter and did some good things

and bail played for us

the pressure we applied for the whole game was great, the amount of times not one but two or more demons were tackling one dogs player, and the amount of times we would put their player on the ground after they disposed of the ball. it made the dogs look over their shoulders and worry about us :)

no periods of poor football!!!! how nice is that to watch!!!!!

absorbing pressure, without panicking and making an inspired comback at the end, the boys certainly did not look tired in the last quarter

finally to sort-of quote queen

"And bad mistakes, they were quite few" --- it is so nice not to get frustrated with poor/stupid kicks/hanballs/decisions we were the cleanest i have seen for ages.

I am proud of you boys, lets see more of it!

Until now I don't think anyone has ever responded to or commented on any of my posts. It took something as lame as "Pedo file" to produce that outcome. Not sure what to make of that!!

Loved that game from Toumpas. For me the only mistake that gets to me is the shot he had on goal while on the boundary when there options in board. Got a bit carried away there. But he was hard and classy today. Used it well. Hope he stays in the team all year and really works into some consistent footy.

Gee how's the love?? Go back over the vid and tell me if what you perceive was his "Only Mistake" ? Was this one!

Sheesh we want to want?? Eh

FWIW a promising game but still plenty of "anxious moments"

yes. One of us had better stop....

Just saw the replay and I'm even happier to keep going. Happier to agree to differ.

And we did not call each other names once

loved Fitz's work

Brayshaw and Vince in the last

Jones is a machine, so is Cross

Spencil is a mongrel - I love it.

Lots of movement, first gives and follow ups. Good game all round.

so what does she say Reverend dowe win?

I went out into the wilderness that is my backyard and asked the question. There was a blinding flash as my lemon tree caught fire and all 47 lemons fell to the ground, slightly singed. It can only mean one thing 47 points in a fiery encounter!

I hear what you're saying about the "anxious moments" but with confidence he will hopefully get used to dealing with it, tho stow set shots for goal were so important and his running and skills were top notch. Let's see how he backs it up next week..

There were two patches for me that were ordinary. Ten minutes in the middle of the first quarter, where they got two easy goals. Neither should have happened. We also gave up too many shots on goal during this period. Fortunately, the Dogs wasted their chances.

The other really poor patch came in the last 5 to 10 minutes of the third, where we conceded 5 out of 6 goals.

Not a perfect match by any stretch of the imagination, which is exciting, it shows how much more improvement is in this team just this year. The other thing it highlights is that if you play your role and you do all the team things well, you'll win most weeks. I'm sure Roos was vindicated by this factor.

The way we pressured them and eventually turned the game completely was outstanding. Everyone simply clamped down and did their job and got us that vital separation in the 2nd-3rd quarters. They were outmarking us something like 34-11 (we turned that around to 103-63 our favour), they had about 25-9 inside 50s at one stage (we turned that around and won it too). I think at least 3 of their goals were from shocking blunders deep in defence but I'll take those little moments of chaos if we're going to move the ball and tackle the way we did. Felt like our Round 1 Victory because when the Suns made a run we all kicked into another gear and moments of brilliance arose yesterday (Hogan's handball to Pedo, Garlett's goal)

Apologies if this has been done already, or if no one is as appreciative of a little schadenfreude as myself. If not, have a read of the predicted margins from the first page:

http://www.woof.net.au/forum/showthread.php?14531-Game-Day-Round-8-2015-Melbourne-V-Western-Bulldogs

"I think that today we really have to make a statement. We need to be ruthless and really go for Melbourne's jugular. I calculate that, if we win, we'll go to 7th and if we win by ~110 points, we'll go to 6th - just behind the Pies.

In an even season like this, we need to put some teams away and really build up our percentage. I'm not tipping a 110 point win, but I think we should be setting ourselves 9+ goals."

Reminds me of some of the posters on here before our final tune-up against Essendon earlier in the year. Does anyone still care about that game btw?? The apocalypse was upon us at the time.

Its good to see Jack Grimes enjoy a win. I have seriously felt for this bloke and if anyone that deserves a bit of success its Jack Grimes. Been through some horrid losses during his time

To make it even more sweeter he played a beauty of the game. I hope he continues his form and stays in for the rest of the year.

His disposal and decision making looked sharp. Feels good to say that.

Lots of love this week PF. This must really be pi55ing you right off hey? Everyone is just laughing at you and SWYL now. Not even one argument, just mirth at your bewilderment, and your ability to keep [censored] on one of our kids. How dare he have a good one!!! why that little plick! You must be humiliated. Don't worry, you won't go hungry, the Humble Pie is nearly done mate. You can thank Toump on the way out the door.

Ill assume Beveridge was coach 2 for his bias of putting Dahlaus in there, even ahead of Jesse.. What a clown of a coach.

Jones was good but he cost us a goal at an important time. Not a game breaker but it was shocking. Still one of our best but I felt Pederson was more influential for more of the game than both Jones and Vince.

Interesting. never knew that. How does he justify that we didn't earn our flags?

It's an odd comment isn't it. But he obviously doesn't like Melbourne, you can tell by the number of Melbourne players he king hit. More than just the infamous Steve Smith incident.

I did appreciate his comment about Jesse Hogan though. Said that some Key Forwards pick and choose when to fly at the ball, but Hogan always goes which means the crumbers always know that the ball will drop 5-10 metres at the front of the contest if he doesn't mark the ball.

If you weigh up how many goals Jones costs us and how many he gets us, I am pretty sure it won't be an even number each way.

He kicked a good one too, and his last quarter was inspirational.

Absolutely deserves votes.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs
