If dees could manage even one of the above mentioned players I would be so happy.

Not that it matters but does anyone know who Prestia and Treloar barracked for before they were drafted?

The best teams need to build their core through the draft then recruit the missing pieces.

We're still a few more drafts away from being in that position.

I think we've pretty much done that over the last 3 drafts:

Hogan

Salem

Brayshaw

Petracca

VandenBerg

McDonald

Stretch

ANB

JKH

Viney

Kent

And that's not taking into account a few other players who may also play a big part moving forward: King, White, Toumpas, Hunt , Harmes.

And add who we've brought in: Tyson, Garlett, Frost.

That's a fairly good nucleus moving forward.

Melbourne for Prestia, Carlton for Treloar (he idolised Juddy).

Agree with all this but a couple of stats that show Gawn up to have the ability to have much greater impact on games than NicNat going forward when you compare the two are contested poss and clearances which you would think Nicnat would have a big advantage over Gawn.

Cont Poss 9.1 Nicnat 9.0 Gawn

Clearances 4.1 Nicnat 3.0 Gawn.

With Gawn ability around the ground and his desire to get his hands dirty he has the scope to become a very good ruckman and be more complete than Nicnat.

Exactly. NicNat is easily the most overhyped player in the comp. If he did exactly the same things and had the same stats but was wearing a Melbourne jumper and looked like Max Gawn then we would be moaning about his lack of tank and woeful disposal. The degree that the commentators dribble on about him his nauseating.

The appeal of NicNat is his marketability.

Living in WA I have a lot of mates who support the Eagls. They know he is overrated, there's never any debate.

But the kids love him, he brings in the money.

Commentators obviously get sucked in as well.

aspects of niknak's game are certainly elite, but other aspects are far from it

overall i couldn't call him elite though

i'd have him in a heart beat but

Prestia was Demons, I believe he still barracks for us..

well then come on home Dion. Come on home.

He is my no.1 for us to target. Would be incredible if we got him.

Dion comes out of the underratedly solid 2010 draft. Among the like of Swallow, Gaff, Caddy, Heppell, Smedts, Isaac Smith, Darling etc.

Melbourne picked up Lucas Cook.........................

If we can get Dion that makes up for a draft we badly missed out on.

Not unlike Jack Watts, except for the bit about the commentators.

They do what they do really well, they just don't do enough.

Agree, Treloar has given no indication that he's not happy at GWS, but clearly he's going to get more money from a Victorian club and GWS's priorities were to resign Shiel, Congilio and Hoskin-Elliott and offer something up to get their two academy players so you do wonder whether the sort of money/terms that's been touted is slightly above the odds. He's had a very good year at the Giants though, very consistent, but like Chaser has pointed out its his defensive running and probably lack of X factor means he'll be a very good midfielder, but probably not elite.

You can't trade for everyone so you have to prioritise. We need another contested ball winner and speedy, goal kicking outside midfielder with X factor. So looking at whose available according to the rumour mill, I'd be chasing Prestia ahead of Treloar and gunning for Motlop as well.

If it's true that Treloar was offered the same deal as Shiel, it's clear that they prioritised Treloar too, but he either wanted more money or had his heart set on returning to Victoria or both.

As for Treloar lacking x-factor, I completely disagree. He's fast, hits the scoreboard and wins a heap of the ball. He's already in the elite category for mine and was there last year too.

Treloar will be in the top 10 midfielders in 3 or 4 years time. He is a gun, who is probably down on form slightly this year, which tells you something, given his ability to put up big numbers consistently.

I hadn't seen that before - and maybe they did prioritise him, certainly there's not much to separate Shiel and Treloar in terms of performance. Whether a player is elite or not is subjective.

His defensive running and accountability probably the ones that come up the most. Kicking can sometimes be untidy, and at 182cm isn't quite the big bodied midfielder that's in vogue.

That said, his positives still outweigh the negatives. Wins plenty of ball inside and outside, very good pace, aggression and goal kicking from midfield make for a very good footballer.

will he attack the body or is he shy?

yeah, it was Shiel I wanted, & was banging on about for the last couple of years. I saw that Treloar was a good runner with ball, but thats all I noticed of him.

where as Shiel has X factor is creative. I hope we are loaded up the next time Sheil is up for contract...

evening up, I would say we need more than Dion; so lets say its Dion at end of this season, & then Gaff at end of his current contract period. that will go closer to evening up.

GWS are doing a very healthy job of getting multiple top 10 draft picks in their club every year AND retaining their best selections from years past.

Of course, they're only in that position because of the extremity of their draft concessions in the first place. They can now lose depth players and get first rounders in return. No other team has that luxury.

Just had a chat to a mate who is a dees supporter and i said have you heard we are keen on Prestia? He flat out said it wont happen.. i was like why a few people on demonland seem to think it will? His response was that he is mates with Prestias manager.

So i hope hes wrong and that the manager is doing a good job keeping it quiet. Obviously no fact to this just more circumstantial evidence haha!

He is contracted. I just can't see Gold Coast letting him go.

doesnt look like D.Prestia will be with us next year, best mate is at his missus party, his missus would love to move to Melbourne he's the one who's not keen. Loves the club and is stoked to be vice captain..... I hope she's a really good liar

All of a sudden people have links to prestia

That's far from circumstantial evidence.

Sounds like someone talking shizen.

I think the naughty Bennell would be a better bargain than Motlop.

Cats won't let him go without a fight.

I hope we get Motlop and absolutely shaft the cats in doing so. They've treated us like a spare development side, it's time we hit back.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
