Are we approaching the last chapter?

Indeed I think we are. There is now a sense of inevitability in regard to the fall of the main protagonist. At least in my books the main characters despite their failings had honorable and empathetic, and, in some cases, heroic qualities. They were uplifting stories despite inevitable sadness. This is more often than not the case in our life journey. There is nothing uplifting about the EFC saga, other than a lesson to us all in how not to behave. And shame.

Just catching up on my reading from the past couple of days and can't believe the concerted PR effort in the Herald Sun that seems to be calculated to discredit the WADA case. Someone should tell them it's not the public that's going to decide the outcome of this saga but the the adjudicators at CAS.

I suspect Essendon supporter's views about James Hird as coach are directly linked to the win/loss record in 2015 more than any other reason. If Essendon was sitting, say, second on the ladder, he'd still be their golden boy.

Just more of the same from the HS. We are talking about the Murdoch press here so there should be no surprise. They took an editorial position on this saga a long time ago and it is not going to change.

I know WJ, but it does fit into the delusional behaviour of the Hird tribe in general, of which the international MD of News Limited is a senior member.

Fortunately it will not make a blind bit of difference. The whole edifice of the Hird regime is rapidly collapsing, and the messiah is getting even more delusional, which will only get more severe as we move towards November. You never know, Little might even notice!

Bonfire of the Vanities. A high flying but shallow man is caught in circumstances essentially of his own choosing. He flies a little too close to the sun but some bad luck gives him a major problem. His initial response, to cover it up, comes back to bite him on the bum, hard. His attempts to escape come to naught, circumstances worsen, and in time it all closes in and leads to his downfall. That Hughes did not make a statement of support of Hird would suggest the Essendonians are giving James the message: we don't back you anymore!

So that Bomber, Tim Watson, Matthew Lloyd and the Essendonians are no longer part of the Hird fan club it can only be a matter of time before he is toppled (despite the CEO 'guarantee' of Hird's job). It's ripe for civil war over there. While many influential supporters are [censored] off and want change, the board is dominated by Hird's evangelical groupies it appears.

They've figured out he can't coach, they bet on the wrong one.

Whilst I have no direct knowledge of this, my guess is that the connections are more Australia to the rest of the world than the other way around. WADA clearly has a very close relationship with ASADA, which is only right and proper, and much of WADA's views on their initial reaction to the Australian football codes behaviour would be formed by that connection. ASADA would also have made them aware of the role of the ACC, but whether there are any direct introductions I am not sure.

But, much of this changed when the Federal Government, ASADA, THE ACC, and all the major sporting codes fronted for the news conference in 2011, and the headline "the blackest day in Australia sport" got blanket coverage worldwide. Put it this way - it could have been handled better. What they should have said was "the blackest day for all the Australian professional football codes". It has caused Australian Olympic sports no end of embarrassment, and created considerable anger.

Funny that the original attention seeking journo that came up with "Blackest day in Australian sport" was Slobbo.
