Kent out for 10-12 (bumped thread)

So disappointing for him. Kent has shown great hardness and some real dash. Will be missed. Hoping for a speedy recovery.

Hope he has a speedy recovery.

Already this highlights our lack of depth - one important player goes down and we're talking about bringing in someone like Bail for the rest of the season. I had hoped those days were over...

Shame - think he was just on the verge of becoming a consistently good player

Best of luck!

Disappointing but not surprised by the severity based on how he did it and he grabbed high on his leg which is never a good sign. As others have said opportunity beckons for someone else.

WORST NEWS EVER!!!!!!

12 weeks is insane.

So much for the short injury list.

Kent and Petracca are such weapons, we wil be awesome with them both fit and firing,

In reality the season is almost a write-off.. these estimates are nearly always shorter than the reality and then there is a couple of weeks at Casey probably. Might get a few more games at the end. Bugger.

Yep, pretty much.

4 rounds completed, say it's 12 weeks and then 2-4 weeks at Casey getting match fit.

Season over.

Maybe, I think we could see him late in the year. It's not an injury that necessarily benefits him massively by holding him out for the year. When he's back fit don't put a ceiling on how long it'll take for him, he can come back if his form warrants it.

All the best to him in recovery, absolutely rotten luck.

Bad luck and hope he has a speedy recovery.

To play devils advocate, the people saying he has been providing great defensive pressure in the forward line... you're wrong. He's laid 1 tackle per game this year, that is far from good. He was told by the coaching staff he needed to step it up or he'd get the axe and it looked like he was responding well, laying 3 tackles in the first quarter before getting injured. It's prt of his game he needs to work on and the coaching staff have started this thankfully.

What we will really miss is his pace and ability to break lines. Multiple times a game he will take the ball down the field on a run and being involved in scoring chains. We don't have many quick players who can do this. JKH has potential for this, Jeffy has been good this year, but we need Toumpas and Stretch and the like to step it up in this area. We're going well winning contested ball but still lack quality outside run.

Hopefully Kent is able to come back strong and have an impact later this year. He certainly has the talent, he just needs to become more rounded as a player and become more consistent.

Exactly what I was thinking.

Haven't seen a 10-12 week hamstring injury at Melbourne since Junior McDonald's last year.

Kenty will be back, I look forward to the day of his return. He's a beauty.

That never happened to Junior.

Ah, that's right, he just had a minor strain that took 10-12 weeks to get over. But he still had good footy left in him.

He missed 5 weeks with the hammy injury and returned through the VFL for one game before he got a call up..

correct, and he didn't have an operation on his hammy......different degree of injury

What sucks is that he was looking as good as I've seen him up until he got injured. His confidence seems to be growing more and more. Hopefully he slots back in to finish off the year strongly.

His intensity was through the roof. Best i have seen from him.

His forward pressure was huge.

He is definitely a tough nut. I really have enjoyed watching him play. Seems to show no fear and adds that extra toughness we have been lacking in the past.

Wishing him a speedy and unevenfulful recovery.

The more i think about it, the more i see his absence as a big loss. His dash and goal kicking ability, his toughness, competitiveness and defensive pressure. The reason he did his hammy was that he was running flat chat to catch the Richmond guy running from one flank to another. Absolutely desperate to stop their run. Something we have not seen for a long time until this season. No one from Casey comes close to offering what Kent has.

such a pity he'll miss more than half the season

it was a real critical time for him, he was turning that corner nicely and promised so much

I hope he can get back to full mobility. That is the most serious Hammy injury one could get

3 months...Ouch!

They really had me fooled when I picked them with great confidence to beat the Bombers at Gather Round last week. I should have recognised that nothing is more quintessentially Melbourne than defeating the undefeated early premiership favourite one week and losing to a winless cellar dweller on its way to establishing a record losing streak the next.
