There is background of the two clubs' connection to war and history of MFC honouring its players lost to war. The most interesting to me was:

"All of Melbourne’s key best and fairest trophies are named after players lost due to war. The most famous is Keith ‘Bluey’ Truscott, a dual Melbourne premiership player in 1939-40. He was also one of Australia’s best-known flying aces during World War II.

The VFL awarded premiership medals posthumously to Truscott, Ron Barassi Snr and Harold Ball, as it was considered that they would have certainly played in the 1941 Grand Final."

We on DL had enough of the club history as served up to us by prior administrations but every now and then a real gem is unearthed and that quote is one of them.

Looking at the fixture - I am worried if we don't win this one we will lose momentum (like last year) and go back into our shells. At least if we win this one we can carry some confidence into the Sydney, Freo, Hawthorn and Port games. This one is a must win!

Hate to say it but we could very well be 1 and 6 leading in to round 8 against the dogs.

But after seeing JH and Brayshaw something tells me the enthusiasm among this group is slightly better than previous models.

Even so when you are 6 or 7 rounds in and you know you are not playing for finals then that must be sapping (after a long hard pre-season).

AFL players are competitive beasts - the players know that finals are very unlikely this year but deep down that's what would drive them.

No he does not. He is on a fixed term contract and has openly said he wont coach again. I think he has the easiest gig of all coaches. He does this year and next but my guess is he will recede into the background to let Goodwin take more control. Remember he only wanted 2 years and was talked into the third. Performance is not a big concern for him. More the change in the culture. Sure this should improve the team but I don't know of any performance criteria other than a vague "finals aspiration next season.

this is right the AFL - PJackson & Roosy are re-setting us up to be sustainable again. so we can start being a real club again. this is why I want us at mortre than arms length from the MCC patrons who want in on the board.

we need footy people to run the club in future, not withstanding the board we have atmo.

I have no truest in the past processes where we always end up with people elected who are regular MCC members who socialise there, & they have continually let this club fail at Footy.

just as they have failed the Vic cricket teams of the past. 'Vic' one of the weakset states of National cricket over the past 5 decades.

keep them away from us in the future, this is where we have failed perennially.

Victoria hardly one of the 'weakest' states over the past 5 decades dee-luded. Have a look at the figures. Winners: WA 14, NSW 11, Victoria 10, Queensland 7, South Australia 5, Tasmania 3. Wooden Spoons: South Australia 14, Tasmania 12, Queensland 9 Victoria 9, NSW 6, WA 0. I guess one could say WA the dominant team over the past 50 years although not recently.

I always enjoying viewing our games against the Tigers. Whether it is our home game or not, we are always in our correct MFC jumpers. The contrast too between our red and blue and their yellow and black is a big bonus. No doubting who has the ball (hopefully us!).

I am annoyed having to attend a Friday night game. Spoils my tradtional Friday night ritual at my favourite Chinese restaurants which I have become accustomed to in the past few years.

Premium members have a bay set aside, M36 on Level 1 of the Ponsford stand, where you can simply show your membership card to access a seat within this bay. The easiest way to access this bay is via Gate 1. We have also arranged a bar for you to attend throughout the game, with a similar set up to the Hassett and Ryder Rooms hosted by Mike and Ralph. ‘The Outer’ is located on Level 1 inside gate 1 and will be open from 5.30pm. Members who present their MFC membership card at the bar will receive a 20% discount for all purchases before 7pm. Players and a coach will attend pre-match, there will be a raffle and food & beverage specials for all members.

Pre-Match Ceremony
A special pre-match ceremony will be held prior to the game in honour of Anzac Day. This will commence approximately half an hour before the start of the game (please note that times may be subject to change).

I'm obviously hoping for a Dees win. If that can't be then hope it is a close, desperate game so that it makes easier for both clubs to put the case to the AFL to make it an annual event. Of course, a big crowd will help the cause!

As an aside Jonesy has also put the heat on Jackie Watts for this week: "He said he was looking forward to Jack Watts' responding positively to the criticism he received for errors at a critical time of the game against Adelaide last week" Hope Jack takes this and similar comments from Roos on board and that he has a blinder... for his own benefit and to quieten the armchair critics in the media and here on DL.

I believe there are now trigger points (crowd numbers) on how much money a home team receives for any home game at the MCG. It's also been stated here that we receive at least 100k for every home game that we play at the MCG (of course, 100k for a home game is a virtual loss in real terms)

Let's hope there's a big crowd so that we can establish this game as a traditional annual event

Not sure what they'll do with this game if ANZAC day falls on a Tuesday or Wednesday but it might solve the problem that the League has with the short rest that the Pies and Bombers can sometimes have ... just match up the Demons & Bombers (another rotating home fixture?) and the Pies & Tigers the weekend before or the weekend after (depending on which day ANZAC day actually falls)

In theory that in turn can (in some years) give us 3 big drawing home fixtures in the space of 6 weeks (when we include the QB clash) A flow-on effect as such.

What else establishes "culture" if not performance, because you said performance is not a big concern? Every player needs to perform consistently. If they do, you win games of football. Say performance doesn't matter seems at odds with your claim he is trying to "change the culture".

They'll just play it the night before.

If it's a Tuesday night, I imagine it would carry over from the previous round, and the ANZAC Day clash the next day would be the start of the next round.

In 2006, ANZAC Day fell on a Tuesday, so it was part of the round from that weekend.

The following year it was a Wednesday, so it was the start of the next round. So I imagine any ANZAC Eve clash on a Tuesday night would be the end of the round, with the next day being the start of the next round.

Agreed, I think there will be a significant difference psychologically between being 1-3 and 2-2. Big game.

We won all of our premierships under the banner of the MCC

Since the MFC left the MCC we have failed. Other than that you are still wrong, in the last 50 years the MFC have won nothing and Victoria cricket have won 10 shields.

I personally would be happy with another 10 flags. 22 premierships sounds great to me.
