My family and I went to the game in Canberra on Saturday and couldn't believe the over the top ground announcer. At three quarter time he went into biased raptures about how many goals the giants had kicked. And all this in between screaming out over the top advertisements.

I wouldn't go near the place again.

I think this sort of thing is a directive from the AFL- to fire up a home crowd.

I must say I was surprised during round on by the pro-Melbourne bias at the Melbourne GCS game. The entire day was basically emceed by a parochial Russell Robertson. (I enjoyed it as I was a Melbourne fan)

Um? Our home ground, our home game. That's how it should be.

There's a difference between biased, one sided etc and professional. I've never noticed Robbo be anything but professional. Sounds like at Canberra they might have been pretty amateur.

On the Tele, it sounded like the Melbourne crowd was as vocal as the GWS contingent. What was it like there?

No it wasn't.

The emcee was fine, we would have been saying the same things would we have done that at the G in a home game.

I was there and was actually impressed by the efforts of the ground announcer in trying to rev up the locals.

There was a fair contingent of Dees' supporters in attendance, but naturally the locals outweighed us in voice and number

It Canberra only bad things happen there.

He was over the top but it was a GWS home game and that was his job - so sadly no probs. I just wish we'd won so that I could have continued my loud, vulgar and boorish comments after half time and included the ground announcer in my spray.

Have to say though I got some nice shots on Davis early when he conceded a 50m. I really [censored] a few of the locals but it was small bananas when we were smashed.

Think the AFL are getting more and more like the American sports like the NFL and NBA.. The home side creates such a hostile environment and the crowds go mad for their teams. Went over late last year and went to a few sports and it does create a great atmosphere when they encourage the home crowd to get involved.. If your following the home team that is

I was there with my family and thought it was great. The announcer was catering to a largely inexperienced AFL spectator base so although a little grating it was understandable. Excellent seats - well tiered so I could till see over the 7 foot bloke in front of me. The crowd was very gracious in victory and I didn't hear any derogatory comments which would have been warranted given what occurred. Easy to get in and out, close parking and just a pleasant short walk to the ground.

The only thing missing was Melbourne after half-time.

This is my point why do we have do everything the american way. On Monday night on 360 deg I heard Buckley talking about his ' line coaches '. Our game is an indigenous sport and we should be promoting it as such not becoming pale imitations of some loud yankee extravaganza.

It's not a Manuka problem. It infects all Australian sport including cricket.

WTH do we need "ground announcers" at all. This is Aussie Rules not bloody gridiron, baseball, basketball or ice hockey.

It was all a part of Vlad's love affair with American sports.

Give us a bit of peace to talk with mates and the crowd.

oh for the glorious days of 'The Voice of the G' with the Mario Cart races at half time...

I would agree - but like I said, he Robbo employed to be one-sided and parochial at our home games, just like the GWS announcer is required to appeal to the GWS fans.

All that's really needed to rev up a Canberra crowd is alcohol and pictures of animals "doing it" - an announcer or an "MC" is a bit of an over-kill. Amiright?

Everytime i go to Canberra I

"Maintain The Rage..."

In regards to the Dismissal, the MFC or just life in general?
