The Club hasn't tweeted it yet, has that guy gone off early?

'That guy' would know quite a bit more than the people in charge of our twitter account...

Happy days. Congrats to VB (not the Adelaide one). Still working on a good nickname.

I don't know whether it is a good one, but the players call him "Richie' and of course Vanders

As others have already named him - Van Demon works for me (obviously a la Van Dieman's Land). Looks a ready made player and already a favourite of a few here.

"First time poster" with 14 posts to their name?

Was thinking as i posted that, which smarty was going to make the call. :)

Been giving the EFC drug topic a bit of a push.

Sorry newbie poster.

A tough ask for someone on debut.

For real. Malceski is a damn fine player. Im sure Roos and co. have a plan to try shut down his drive off half back

Just ask Hawthorn what they did in the GF. Malceski stunk.

Breust, Rioli, Langford, Roughead, Puopolo even Gunston hunted Sydney's defenders lack a pack of wild (but well coordinated and highly disciplined) dogs.

It's the challenge for our forwards and why despite maybe lacking fitness I want vandenBerg and Kent in the side. They have speed, hardness and an appetite for the ball and man. Jeffy Garlett buzzing around, Frost with his speed and Hogan with his attitude as well can bring the pressure. Maybe even a fired up Jack Watts. We can dream I guess.

Just ask Hawthorn what they did in the GF. Malceski stunk.

I don't think so, he was close to the Swans best player in the GF.

Can someone explain how you get a surname with all lower case letters except a B somewhere in the middle??

Important issue I know...

vandenBerg, is of dutch origins.

Spelt 'van den Berg' in Dutch (but vandenBerg as a surname - without spaces), it translates to "from the mountain/hill"

Rubbish.

I looked it up and it said "truly awesome rookie footballer."

vanders should start as the third tall in the forward line who goes into the midfield for 5 mins every now and again. He has the size to stand a KPD, his versatility is probably the reason Pedo is gonna be on the outer this year or so it seems.

This will free up Watts to play more of a link role and we need his precise footskills coming into F50 badly.

Hoping for a massive debut from the rookie.

He got the ball no doubt but butchered it.

He was easily in Sydney's best and by far their best in the first quarter when it was still a ball game. I thought he was BOG at quarter time.

I'll be very happy to see Vanders get a game, looks to have some exciting attributes about him. As someone said, I wouldn't bother about having a designated defensive forward as the suns have great rebounders. Will just have to be a forward unit defensive effort.

Spelt this way more likely to be Belgian. Dutch generally capitalize the V and the D. Belgians go lower case.

Think the Berg will be exciting. See i made another nickname... i was going to say Iceberg but Ice is probably a bad choice of words now days...

Thank the Lord he is a long way removed from the "skinny kids" we usually debut.

Solid lad alright.

Just needs a bit more conditioning and he will be a serious unit for a midfielder.

the Cale Morton days seem like another lifetime

  • POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.

  • WHAT’S NEXT? by The Oracle

What’s next for a beleagured Melbourne Football Club down in form and confidence, facing  intense criticism and disapproval over some underwhelming recent performances and in the midst of a four game losing streak? Why, it’s Adelaide which boasts the best percentage in the AFL and has won six of its last seven games. The Crows are hot and not only that, the game is at the Adelaide Oval; yet another away fixture and the third in a row at a venue outside of Victoria. One of the problems the Demons have these days is that they rarely have the luxury of true home ground advantage, something they have enjoyed just once since mid April.
