Does Brayshaw play round 1?

GC are full of young energetic runners throughout the midfield and back line.

I felt we were short in that match up.

It has been proven that Brayshaw can read a game. He can go and get the ball as well as receive it.

He certainly has goal sense, and he doesn't mind a bit of Argy Bargy.

What part of football does grimes have that he doesn't?

when was all this 'proven' about AB? For mine, nobody has 'proven' anything until they've done what they do in an AFL game for premiership points on a consistent basis

He'll get a run on the ball, but even if you were right, players likely to be confined to a forward type role are far more likely to be given a final spot on the interchange bench than a player, like Grimes, who is limited to a stopping/defensive role. Grimes is a hopeless midfielder and would be lost in the forward-line.

can someone remind me, I believe Grimes was a genuine midfielder as a junior wasn't he? Just like Watts was a genuine KPF. Both have ended up flankers. Boy have we been stiff

It's a salivating thought that in 12 months time, we will already have another player of equal or better calibre (Petracca) ready to step into the team and that's not to mention ANB and Billy Stretch. Like many, this is probably the one day in the year of greatest optimism for Demon fans.

There's also Trengove coming off the LTI and another good prospect with about pick 6 (I spose)

Look at the joy on Tiger supporters at the debut of McIntosh. On Land we have losers who expect him to fail, perhaps even hope for him to fail so that their pessimistic opinion is proven right. Anyone notice how Brayshaw's debut has gotten much media attention. You hear about the likes of De Goey and Heeney but nothing from Brayshaw which i think is fantastic considering the media had always pumped our high draft picks ala Jack Watts etc.

i know I am on a bit of a negative bender at the moment, but I feel like the 'footy world' views a high draft pick debuting for the MFC as: 'hhmmm yeah we've seen this, happens every year for no result.. what else is going on?'

I just picked Grimes as the 'best' example of the player who is missing out for Brayshaw, not sure how much their positions come into it, I doubt it made much difference in the selection.. but IF howe is playing HBF you can clearly argue that he is the one who pushed Grimes out.. if that is the case then yes, you can probably say Brayshaw took the spot of M.Jones (not Grimes).

Howe will play HBF as that's where he's trained all pre season, coaches clearly like him there. In fact, judging from last year's most regular back 6, it has been Salem who has taken Grimes' HBF spot..... With Frost & H able to pinch hit back there depending on matchups. I thought 1 of Garland's or Grimes' spot was in jeopardy to make way for Salem.

Brayshaw's form was ahead of that of Michie, M. Jones, Bail & McKenzie. Whether he's 100% ready or not (in terms of age/exprience), he comes in looking like the most damaging midfielder based on pre season game time. It's really quite a simple selection guys, those other boys made Gus' selection easy by underwhelming in pre season games. Gus will give us a massive injection of go & enthusiasm out on the field, he will get midfield minutes sub or not.

So practice matches are a rung down? So the NAB games, which are practice games, are also a rung down so it makes it even with VFL practice games going by your logic.

He was named in the best for every game. He was clearly doing all the things asked of him by the coaching team. Otherwise he wouldn't have received the praise and the promotion for Round 1 if he didn't.

And thanks for the childish 'deal'. You should be hoping like crazy he does do better in SC as it will mean good things for Gus and the team.

It's self evident that you expect him to fail Curry. At round 1 most supporters should be brimming with confidence and backing their club. I am and I do.

As thevil1 has pointed out Grimes spot has been taken by Salem playing a new role. Brayshaw is not responsible for Grimes or any of the other six players missing any more than Vanders, Frosty or any of the others who,have earned their spots. The only one to blame is themselves and I suspect that they will all get a run in the starting 22 as soon as they force there way back via Casey.
