Its good news really.

The old brigade from the dark days are already showing they are expendable, while the new guys Roos have bought in since they started are already hitting home runs.

Shows how horrible our recruiting was pre-Roos era. Now we are actually bringing in footballers.

Grimes, our former captain, has become/is mine and many other supporters' whipping boy: NEGATIVE

And here I was wondering who everyone would whip after Cale Morton was sent packing

Positives:

Newton's opening quarter and goal.

Vandenberg

Frost

Held FREMANTLE to a single point in Q3

H looks like being a ripping good recruit

The usual suspects did as the usual suspects do.

Negatives:

We scored a single point in Q2

The same old blind high bomb into the forward 50

Garlett looked lazy and disinterested in the first half

The two best passes into the forward 50 came from a first gamer from Canberra and the worst kick in the side.

Gawn put his hand up to claim worst kick in the side status. Unsure how Jordie is taking that.

The usual suspects did as the usual suspects do.

Great thread idea.

Positives:

1. N.Jones & Tyson - Solid as always.

2. Hogan - Excellent leads along with incredible endurance.

3. Lamumba - A great sight to see running out of the backline.

4. Newton and Vandenberg - Promising.

5. Frost - Frawley's replacement, might become even better.

6. McDonald - Looks calmer with ball in hand.

Just shy of my 6, Cross - Keeps on going.

Negatives (unfortunately):

1. Grimes - Horrible kick (mind you I once really rated him and his potential).

2. M. Jones - Turnovers were costly.

3. Russian - Still can't get it between the big sticks in close.

4. McKenzie - Just don't ever see him becoming an AFL standard player.

5. Toumpas - Don't know where some of the love has come from, frolicked around most of the game and did one nice kick and gained one nice possession off a pack, maybe I expected more from his pre-season hype???

6. A few poor deliveries way over the head of a leading Hogan, the team needs to practice hitting that lead up target.

A few other players were quite ordinary.

Positives

1. Newton looked clean, classy, and got a lot of it early. Looks a real find on limited viewing so far.

2. Vandenberg came on and immediately had an impact, he was one player last night who didn't panic under pressure, lowered his eyes very well.

3. Frost. Backs himself and takes the game on. I was very impressed by this kid.

4. Lumumba. Pleasently surprised by H. Needs some work on the inside, but regularly followed up his efforts, and taken the game on - he is going to be a vital player this year.

5. Jesse Hogan. I thought he was excellent, already looks our main target going forward.

6. My winnng bet to get within 19 points got up with 1 point to spare:)

Negatives.

1. Tom McDonald early, made costly errors and didn't look up to stardard. He did rectify that somewhat in the second half, but he has a lot of work to do.

2. Matt Jones gives away silly free kicks. It is frustrating, but I also question whether Jones is up to the level of AFL (could also say the same for Jack Grimes).

3. Our second quarter.

4. Max Gawns disposal.

5. Our back and forward line.

6. We lost.

Edited by KingDingAling

Much improved midfield but needed more than 2 goals from our talls.

Can't see anything different from Bail, Matt Jones or McKenzie

Rebound from backline poor because of the disposal of Grimes and Garland. Dunn had a stinker.

Thought Frost and McDonald were OK. despite some errors.

Loved Jettas game before he went off.

Good and accurate assessment.

Only thing I don't agree on is toumpas (seems like this is polarising a lot of us!). I thought he started extremely slowly and first half struggled to pick up the tempo if the game. But thought he got better as the game wore on and showed some good signs in the second half. If he can continue to build through pre season, I reckon we have a best 22 player who can actually dispose well (unlike the others you mentioned in negatives whom I agree with).

Positives

1. Nathan Jones keeps on keeping on.

2. Jesse Hogan on the park

3. much improved team effort

4. Vanders and Newton start well

5. Jeff and H add a lot of Zip

6. still got some strong players to come back into the side ( Vince, Howe, Watts, Trengove, Petracca )

Negatives

1. we lost

2. lacked composure

3. lapses in intensity, when we were up we were the better side.

4. some of the skill errors were awful

5. thought the umpiring was a big ordinary

6. pretty sure picket started this thread to have a dig at Toump, despite him being okay and others clearly worse.

POSTIVES

1. Tyson - in close he is absolute class, made a couple of mistakes by foot but wasn't alone, even players like Stephen Hill were butchering kicks first game back

2. Lamumba - slow first quarter, but was good after that, loved the way he played on and moved it quickly, will be very important for us

3. Frosty - jesus christ, what a beast

4. Newton - that first play was first class, marks with the flight of the ball and slots it from 50 on an angle

5. Hogan - he looked a little rusty but he built in the game well, you can tell he will start clunking more of those marks, especially with better delivery

6. Nathan Jones - just keeps on keeping on, we can't afford him to drop off at all and his first quarter was excellent, his kicking is the most underrated part of his game, he just does not miss shots on goal

NEGATIVES

1. Dropping Sitters - 2nd quarter in particular, just meant we couldn't get it out and our defence never got a rest

2. Grimes - over the last year or two has lost all of his strengths and is just a shadow of the 20 year old who looked so comfortable at this level

3. Matt Jones - he is best 22, but just waiting for a young guy to string a few good games together and take his place

4. Gawn - what the hell was that? he is actually usually a reasonable kick, so I am willing to let it slide and forget it ever happened, but only this once

5. Dawes - after all we have heard about his preseason, I expected more, hopefully he gets going in the rest of nab cup games

6. Low Scoring Periods - to not kick a goal in 2 of the 4 quarters is criminal, we have to keep the scoreboard ticking over

I watched most of the game through my neighbours window from inside my house, so not the best viewing if I'm being honest, but I was going to post today that I saw some encouraging signs from Toumpas- went when it was his turn and tried to take the game on but obviously lacks some confidence, or experience. I'm not writing off yet.

6 AAAAND Toumpas! sorry, cameos don't cut it!

Matt Jones and Jordy are useless. If they get a run this year then we are in real trouble.

Garland has lost all confidence with his disposal. He is still good one on one however chokes with ball in hand.

Grimes needs to seriously consider a career change. Terrible one on one and even worse with ball in hand.

Mcdonald is a good backman however has real issues with disposal. It doesn't seem that there has been improvement in this area over the off season.

Toumpas is class. Just needs to find some confidence and her will rip games apart.

In general our disposal by foot was woeful.

How can a Jamar possibly almost kick the ball on the full from 5m?

How can Gawn kick it directly to opposition player without pressure?

There are some inexcusable skill errors from our senior players that will continuously hold us back.

"Garlett looked lazy and disinterested in the first half"

The ball kept getting plonked on top of his head and picked off by the taller defender.

Didn't really have much to work with

Love the way Hogan throws himself into the contest. Will provide a real opportunity for the crumbers this year.

2. Grimes - over the last year or two has lost all of his strengths and is just a shadow of the 20 year old who looked so comfortable at this level

Was his broken collar bone the catalyst for his demise? Not sure if he ever played well after that.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.
