Jeff Garlett Misses Court Appearance

Featured Replies

maybe like essendon players he was duped and someone spiked his bitter lime and lemon?

Will still kick 35 for the year.

I want that.

I hope he didn't tell the club because if he did and no one in the admin thought to find out the date to remind him to show up, then the admin is at fault since they should know he isn't the most responsible person in the world. But regardless when it happened, he should have told the club because it may have interfered with his work duties.

maybe he did tell carlton when it happened and they said "don't worry, we'll fix it"

For Barwon won't help us much jazza

Jeff is starting to look like payback for Brock.

And Brock was payback for Vin Cattogio

Never ceases to amaze me how dumb most AFL players are

Never ceases to amaze me how dumb most AFL players are

I think I have said it on a number of occasions

If they could not play football you would not feed a number of them.

On the other side I suppose that a group of Footballers numbering approx. 800 will throw up most of the types in the general community.

I know a few males that are not AFL footballers that would give Garlett a run for his money in the"stupid stakes".

I'm hoping the course of action from the MFC is a first and final warning.

Garlett fell out of favour at Carton for his misdemeanours and it clearly showed with Malthouse's attitude towards him. As a result his attitude towards training and the game deteriorated which reflected on his 2014 form.

In Garlett "we have a player", he hasn't put a foot wrong since being here and so support him on the matter whilst making it obvious the club is heavily disappointed for not informing them. Get through the process together and move on together - both he and the club will be better for it.

I fear a punishment for this [first time offence] may be detrimental.

Meh. It's between him and the courts. As long as he shows up to training I don't care about the rest of it.

Absolutely needs to be disciplined. If nothing else, so he can be crystal clear that he won't be getting up to the same old stupidity at his new club without severe consequences

This is his second chance.

Can't believe he would he so dumb as to stuff it up, especially with a young family.

Wait, so his second chance was before his first chance? Yeh he stuffed up, last year while at Carlton. He hasn't put a foot wrong since being at melbourne. The story says he didn't tell melbourne because he didn't know he had to go to court. Move on, the club will deal with it, the courts will deal with it. I'd still want him lining up for us round 1 regardless

I don't think he should be disciplined. He did do the wrong thing, but isolating a guy like Garlett won't end well.

Club needs to support and embrace him, ask him why he didn't go to court - and help him in his future court appearances.

Let's not forget that a large number of Australian men also lose their license and don't attend court, let's not treat Garlett like he is a criminal.

He needs support, if there is one thing MFC did well with Liam Jurrah it was support him, some would say even enabled him - but our intentions were in the right place.

I say support him maybe he didn't know he had a court appearance it does happen, no one is perfect give him a warning and move on, the courts will punish him anyway, sure it's not a great look but what do you do

I think part of the issue at Carlton was also that they underestimated the influence of Eddie Betts both on and off the field. He was instrumental to the success of the forward brigade and when they got rid of him there was suddenly a lot more pressure on Garlett. We saw his game suffer as a result. I think we need to temper our expectations with him a little. He will improve our side, but he's not the messiah. In fact, he may be a very naughty boy.

The thing that really disturbs me about this particular incident is that he may not even have known that he was due to appear in court. That speaks to some pretty significant issues in his life skills.

Happens all the time at the Gat.

Oh ffs, non issue as far as I am concerned. Yeah he is stupid blah blah, it's not a misbehaviour that occurred while at our club, for god sake don't suspend him from games as that is detrimental to the team and fans.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
