2015 Contracts Thread

great.

every player is tradable song.

It is just the deal that makes some happen and others not.

There was something on ch7 news tonight about Gawn. I couldnt hear all of it but I thought I heard some clubs are interested.

If I was Gawn's agent, not only would I be trying to get a much better deal for him from the MFC now that my client is showing what he can do, I'd also be sounding out other clubs, even if it's just to find out his market worth to take back to the MFC. Having said that, there are plenty of clubs who could do with a Max Gawn type of player so it wouldn't surprise at all if other clubs were speaking with Gawn's agent.

Max gawn won't leave. End of story

If the deal is a better one outside of the MFC for Max then take it.

His body suggests he will not last into his thirties.

In his case this may be his last contract.

Take the best one for you Max

Looking at the list, Hunt starting to show something and Harmes' form throws a spanner in to the works re: list management this year.

At this point, I have lines through Jamar, McKenzie, Fitzpatrick and Bail. I re-contract Gawn and Cross. I'd like to elevate Harmes; King retained as third year rookie and White as second year rookie. That's only a net 3 changes to the senior list; not enough turnover. Someone out of the players who I would prefer to keep (in order of most to least merit) - Pedersen, Toumpas and maybe Riley, will have to go if Garland and/or Howe don't. I'm not as dead set on retaining Garland as I was earlier in the year now.

Having Terlich on a lengthy contract will hurt us this year I think.

Is Michie being contracted until 2016 correct?

The Terlich contract is diabolical. I thought we had good decision makers at the club now?

trade or delist over the next couple they all need to go,

I'll assume "n jones" is a typo. If not, I'll have to make another assumption which you may not like.

I don't know why Mahoney keeps giving long deals to fringe players like Terlich, Matt Jones and Barry. They should get one year max at the end of the season once the list has been worked out. If they walk to another club, they walk.

Considering that you can't spell Dunn's name properly, have confused Nathan with Matt, and refuse to notice Watts' uptick in form - it's best if you avoid threads like this one...

sorry miss, i didn't realise this was english class!!

must improve my spelling, pay more attention and stop being confused!!

Weren't you the guy that said Tom Scully wouldn't leave?

As I said a couple of weeks back on here a few clubs are putting offers to Gawn, hopefully he stays but he hasn't been entirely happy at MFC over the last 12 months.

No. EoS 2015

Tell us more? Why unhappy? It was mentioned on the weekend that he was recently told to pull his finger out and stop being the class clown so much (however much credit you give the channel 7 commentary) but it seems to have worked. Does he think he'll have a free ride at other clubs? Not criticising - just asking.

I'm intrigued by this comment, Nash. Please elaborate. What's changed?

Personally, I'd be delisting/trading/letting FA take its course with Jamar, McKenzie, Terlich, Bail, Matt Jones, Garland and Howe. I'd consider dropping Harmes back to the rookie list, but I guess I'd wait until the end of the season to see what else he can deliver. I'd also put the feelers out for Toumpas in terms of a trade. I wouldn't be adversed to losing Riley either. I prefer Grimes gone, but given he's contracted, he's safe for a year and will provide depth.

For me though, it's really about getting rid of as many of those players who 1) don't know how to win and 2) continue to make the same errors over and over again. Grimes and Garland are in that category, but so is Nathan Jones. He obviously stays, but he desperately needs support in the leadership stakes and in the midfield. Someone like Prestia would fit the bill nicely, despite being younger. He is the VC at the Suns afterall.

Yeah, seemed like a brain-fade at the time too. Nothing has changed, in fact, as you imply, it looks even worse now.

Seriously time our list manager was given the flick, we should demand better than signing Terlich to a 2 yr contract, total waste of space on our list and money. Would a club like Hawthorn sign him for 2 years??? Not a chance. Get rid of the dead wood.

Yes, you have to wonder who was behind the renewal.

I doubt it was Roos as Terlich was delisted by the Swans when he was their coach.

Goodwin wasn't with us.

So was it Mahoney, Viney??

Surprisingly, I could not find anyone with the title of 'List Manager' or something like it on our website.

Who is responsible for balancing short term and long term interests of coaches, recruiters and Club?

If it is Viney some key decisions in recent years are a worry.

Yeah lets delist our captain? Worked so well for us after 2010..

You are a muppet.

I can't stand Terlich as a player as he's a turnover merchant but if he's going to be around next year, we may as well give him a couple of games in the final weeks of the season. See if his year at Casey has made him a better AFL player.

They just have to pay Terlich out. Seriously, we must have so much spare cash. We cannot be paying our list anywhere near what the Hawthorn list is being paid. Surely we are at about 80% of the cap with half our list not up to AFL standard?

Terlich should not be on anymore than $150,000 a season. Just pay it out. If he's on more than that then the bloke that re-signed him should be sacked.

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
