THE ESSENDON 34: ON TRIAL

I work with Hal's mother and she is a force to be reckoned with. It didn't surprise me when I heard he was the mystery player. She hasn't told anyone, it was supposed to be kept confidential. But she is after justice and she will get it one way or another in my opinion.

She was appalled by the way the club communicated with the parents and how her son was off loaded after his rookie contract was up. He had worked through numerous injuries only to be unloaded when it suited the club. She was less than impressed by James H. But that is to be expected I think as a mum. But she is no fool and has not been impressed by the way the Club has handled their players and the issue.

In her view her son has been injected with an unknown cocktail of supplements or whatever they were and then unloaded by the club with no support system in place. You are on your own son. Any wonder Mum might be mad?

But... but... Robbo said the story about the upset mother was a hoax!

Slobbo has been very quiet...

360 back next week just in time for the [censored] to hit the fan again. No doubt there will be some more delusional whinging and then a refusal to talk about it because "it's not what footys about mate, let's get on with the real stuff"

At least Roosy is back to speak some common sense into him. Not sure about Bomber's replacement though. Obviously Eddie's influence there.

Interesting stuff, and I hope every normal person shakesHals hand if they cross him in the street cos god knows those Essendon supporting losers will be trying to burn him alive

All Essendrugs supporters are completely ignoring this saga, both my Mother and Sister are Essendrugs supporters and as soon as you bring it up they tell you to not talk about it, or they dont follow footy anymore. I really think the whole team needs to be punished for the year. I don't care about the players who didn't have anything to do with it, they way the club has dragged this out with utter contempt is ludicrous, and what will they get? A Fine? They should take Jobe's brownlow off him, do what they did to the storm, no points, but for 2 years not 1. And no draft picks. Just so sick to death of this black cloud.

Xarron and others make some good points. The AFL is not to blame for kids using drugs in sport or anywhere. However, there have been various times where an AFL player has been in the public eye over a drug issue. The AFL did not take those opportunities to take a public stand and condemn drugs. I don't recall a 'No drugs in sport' commentary from them. Maybe Andy D said it once or twice re EFC saga, not sure.

I commend the AFL for their public stand and campaigns on racial abuse, gay rights, women in the AFL, indigenous players in the AFL etc. They have been excellent in publicly supporting a range of social issues in sport.

But they have publicly remained silent when it came to condemning drugs in sport/AFL. One would be forgiven in thinking it is paying lip service to the problem. Some would think trying to sweep it under the carpet. Others may think the silence is tacit acceptance. By staying silent there hasn't been leadership coming from the AFL. Would it make a difference to junior AFL. Who knows.

Has the horse bolted? Maybe I was hasty in making that comparison. But the AFL need to find their voice and have a 'no drugs in sport' public campaign because as Pigdog noted the problem at junior and country AFL has been known for several years.

'No drugs in sport' needs to be a new mantra by the AFL. It will take some courage (and slick PR) to do that in the aftermath of the EFC saga but it does need to take leadership on a major issue already affecting its future players.

As yet another example of the media bias in this, the bloke who does the sports segments on ABC Radio National breakfast has failed to mention the fact that an ex-EFC player was suing at all. You'd think that was a pretty hot story.

No surprising but the "Hal Hunter" story did not make today's addition of the HUN.

Well I could not not find it.

That would be Warwick Hadfield I assume. He's so far into Essendon's pocket that he couldn't see anything for the lint.

A son of mine ( step son..but nice lad) , an exceptionally clever and with in bloke for 99% of things is also an essendon supporter, as is his sister. She wouldnt know one end of a footy fro the other but hes rather keen on the game. To him its all a beat up, nothing to see here ,they'll all get off... move along, Hird is a dead set champ etc.

On one level i find it fascinating, on another sad.

So many in denial

Are there enough psych wards to cope with the reality about to unfold ??

That's what i mean, just completely oblivious. Its like they do not want to think about the possibility that 34 players (some not playing with them) could be suspended for a long time, including their captain.

Different upset mother.

Ostrichcism has gripped Bomberland. The only Essendon supporter that I have had the chance to discuss the issue with in depth wants Hird gone and is sick of the entire business and propaganda. He must be a minority.

Different upset mother.

Oh! How do you know? Do you know who the upset mother was. I thought no one knew.

Slobbo has been very quiet...

I like to give him the occasional nudge on Twitter.

Well, hopefully after next Tueday they will have been hit with Ostracism.

Yep, Bucks and Roosy on Mondays.

And my most disliked current player (other than one deserter from our club) at Essendrug has replaced Bob Murphy opposite Jordan Lewis. Will definitely be skipping Tuesday nights of 360 this year.

Who is it?

Of course they had to have more Essendope representation on the show, didnt they? Mark Robinson is such a [censored] head and was already too much Bomber cheerleading on his own

Why the hell have an Essendrugs player on, there are other clubs you know!

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
