Huge vote of confidence in big Maxy's knees and ability to hand him the number 11. He's a fan favorite - especially with the kids so the best of luck to him.

Out of curiosity, look likes every player to don the number 11 since Jimmy has been a ruckman: Simmonds, Jolly, Johnson, Clark now Gawn. Anyone know of another club that has a positional jumper tradition number like this?

Not positional but Port captains always No1.

I would have given Billy a high number so that all the kids get high numbers...

It's a silly little idea but I would still do it that way.

Intrigued by how we go about it, would have thought 17 would have been kept for Lovett via father son next year. But no big deal.

All pretty understandable numbers, Brayshaw 10 and Mccartin 32 maybe?

Agree, was thinking they should have kept 18 for Stretch last year instead of giving it to Cross...

Lack of foresight

Toiges Captain always wears 17....

I thnk a lot of full backs used to wear 1 and it was to do with the team selection from the backline....

Nice to see Max given the chance to bring some credibility back to the number 11 after the last bloke soiled the Guernsey.

They can number backwards from 99 for all I care. Enough of this sentimentality (like the Blazers). Just put out a team that can play!

GO DEES!!

Paul Johnson certainly did not grace the jumper.

Played like a 200cm rover.

Neither did Simmonds.

Try Johnson, Ball, Mithen, Anderson, Wells, Hardeman, Icke and Stynes for size.

I would've happy to give 11 a rest given some of the recent history with it, but Gawn's a good bloke and well liked in the club so I hope he does it proud.

I may be old fashioned but the list of players looks odd without someone wearing number 10 and the series of gaps in the 20s and 30s and a serious roadjam of players with numbers in the 40s.

Too old fashioned to read to the bottom of the article? I'm tipping typical gen-Y short concentration span ...

The remaining numbers will be allotted after Melbourne selects six more players via the NAB AFL Draft (four players) and NAB AFL Rookie Draft (two players).

No.10, No.26, No.28, No.30, No.32, No.33, No.34, No.35, No.37 and No.41 are vacant at this stage with Jesse Hogan wearing No.1 and Jack Fitzpatrick wearing No.48 again.

Having read the last two pages I am surprised.

Cannot believe the love a lot of people have for the subject of numbers and who wears them.

I cannot not think of a subject concerning the MFC that I have less interest in.

I don't care who wears what number.

IMO the only thing that matters is that the players are good enough to lift us up the ladder.

What number they wear I will leave to you guys.

Have fun

Old age does tend to bring with it a lack of interest in specifics.

That's why I regularly do crosswords and sudoku to stave off dementia. :)

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator attended training out at Casey Fields to bring you the following observations from Preseason Training. GATOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS There were 5 in the main rehab group, namely Gawn, Petracca, Fullarton, Woewodin and Lever.  Laurie was running laps by himself, as was Jefferson.  Chandler, as has been reported, had his arm in a sling.  Lindsay did a bit of lap running later on. Some of the ''rehab 5'' participated in non contact drills and b

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

    TRAINING: Thursday 9th January 2025

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

    TRAINING: Monday 16th December 2024

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov
