Sam Blease wants out

Another failed top 20 pick .... How many is that since 2007???

Surely our past recruiters & development people should never be allowed to work in another afl club ever again.... wtf disgrace!

I thought so too but he was awful v Brisbane. I've given up. If he couldn't get a dozen games this year I think the coach has also

Blease plays like he has given up as well. I doubt Carlton would be prepared to trade a player who will enhance our list. Third round draft pick if we are very lucky. More likely their fourth rounder. Pffft. What a disappointing waste!

Do we really care?

Happy to get something for him if we can...

But what assets does he really have as a football player?

Pace? What else?

I'm serious.

Surely not a swap for Robinson. Please god no!

Why not? I would trade blease for Robinson. Basically we get Robinson for nothing as we would be delisting blease anyway.

Kent is every much the player Blease should have been.

A colossal disappointment. Anything in the 30-50 pick range will be a steal. He'll fit in nicely at Carlton with their list of downhill skiers.

What did we get from them for the Brockster? I would have thought that at the time he went, he wasn't showing much more than Blease does, and at least Blease has pace and reasonably good finishing skills going for him (when he can get started that is).

I'm quite happy for Prendergast to weave his incompetence at Carlton.

There's two ways of answering this Hardtack;

1. The dumb khunts gave us pick 11

2. We got pick 11 which some dumb khunt selected Gysberts with

Take your pick, but it's not unlikely that both scenarios are accurate.

Hahahah not only did Prendo pick up Blease once when he shouldn't have but he is now trying to trade him in to bloody carlton hahahha

bloke has no idea

I recall some dazzling runs Sam made through half-forward, like little golden flecks in the mullock heap of his career.

Like Silvia, Moloney.....Rivers has been serviceable, Petterd borderline, Martin a good 2nd half of the season.

So who are these players that have starred at another club?

McLean!

:(

I clinged to hope with Sammy like a fat kid to the last donut, but the donut has gone stale.

I still believe he has/had the ability, but it just hasn't been realised. He needs a change.

I'd take either of Garlett or Robinson for him and it wouldn't be that tough a decision.

During the Neeld years, games would have two possible highlights - a Howe screamer or a Blease goal on the run.

Mostly just a Howe screamer.

McLean!

Star?

A good serviceable player I would have thought. I don't have sleepless nights thinking about losing Brock.

Certainly done better than Gysberts though.

Gysberts than got us Pederson who if he follows on from this season could easily have the better career. It's a mess, but somehow we've won that trade.

So Sammy can run...Old Samwise Gamgee can run all the way to flipping Mordor, and he still won't make that much of a difference. Stay...Go...can't see him stamping himself with authority on any position in our lineup, so I have no probs if he wants to trade. Worst case we get a spot on the list. Best case PR pulls a bunny out of the hat and we get a developing role player that helps us be better.

I wreckon Blease has more upside than most of our list

Don we gave him every opportunity and he never really delivered, he is very quick and has a decent tank. I recon he will be much better off somewhere else, although I don't think it is under Malthouse's tutelage. Even tho he was a first round pick, unfortunate thing is that we will get nothing for him because of his work ethic! I would love someone like patty Cripps, but I know thats not possible, I think we will get atleast a third rounder for him!

No, Brock has had the better career than either of them. Not a star but has been a good player, Peders is a depth player only and Gysberts a bust.

I think you are underselling them to make your point.

If Martin hasn't starred at Brisbane, then we have different definitions of what it means to star. There is a ton of denial floating around when it comes to Martin.

Rivers was arguably BOG in the QF. I think Cats fans would say he's been better than "serviceable".

Bennell played 19 games in 2014 for West Coast. He and Petterd haven't "starred", but they've played their best football since leaving the club. Would anyone bet on Blease being any different? I wouldn't.

Well, let's hope history repeats on the first point... as under the current regime, I seriously doubt that it would be a wasted opportunity as far as using the pick goes.

Well, given the bloke that caused point 2 is now involved with those that caused point 1, it's a formula that is more probable than possible!

I guess my point is I'm not losing any sleep over any of them. It's not like we've given away superstars.

Cat's fans will also say Riv is no Scarlett, he's slotted in nicely and I'm happy to see him doing well.

Sammy would need a big turnaround to even match what Bennell is doing.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: West Coast

Epic battle alert.  This Sunday, Casey Fields hosts a coach’s showdown pitting the wits of the master Mick Stinear (92 games, 71.7% win rate) against his protégé Daisy Pearce (16 games, 43.8%). Still early in her coaching journey, Daisy’s record doesn’t yet reflect her impact — but she’s already the best-performed coach at West Coast.Dais’ is mythic.  Like Katniss Everdeen, everyone either wants to kiss her, kill her (sporting metaphor) or be her.  Toothers Daisy Pearce is a role model, someone admired for their heart, humility and humour.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.
