If st Kilda go Brayshaw, would it be possible we overlook both Petracca and McCartin?

WTF would we overlook Petracca?

I think the saints will go mccartin, let him develop under roo while he is there.

and we will take brayshaw and petracca

I hope that's the way it goes. Doubt we'll be so lucky.

Last year this time around we were all certain we had Nathan Freeman on board.

A week to go till the draft and word came we had cooled on him and were set to pick Salem.

I have said before, no one is locked in at pick 2 or 3 until basically the last 48 hours to go.

Alot of water to flow under the bridge.

Correct! But all we can do is report here what we hear. And just because someone says they have an "inside" source doesn't mean its any more credible than a "golf buddy" (who I may say has connections on the interior - wooooooooooo). The club change their mind just like anyone. is it better we say nothing at all when we hear it, or just report once its in the papers?

In your drunken case Clit - it is better to STFU!!

Come on, thought I was just starting to get interesting!

So who's your source Demoneye? Samuel L Jackson, Dennis Hopper of James Woods?

No. Demoneyes is their caddy.

We now have 40 and by tomorrow may have 53. IMO I can see the club taking the player they want at 3 and then the other type of player not taken at 40 or 53.

In other words say if McCartin goes to Saints, we take Petracca and Brayshaw and then a KPF at one of the other picks.

Alternatively if we take Brayshaw and McCartin, I could see another mid being taken later.

The rookie picks may allow for another ruckman and a speculative pick, on someone who may have a bit of something special, while not the complete player.

This is a fair enough question. I'd say it's better to report it (cos it's what makes this time of the year interesting) but take care not to overstate it. If your golf buddy says the club is really into Lever, then that's all it means. And IIRC that's what you reported. That doesn't mean that 2-3 weeks out from the draft the final decision has been made that we're definitely taking Lever, or we've crossed X or Y off the list.

Others may have sources that we're really looking hard at De Goey, or Duggan, or whoever. There's no way a decision would be made on #3 at this stage, and we'll be narrowing down the list, so really checking out our top few preferences. There are bound to be a number of people at the club involved in the discussion, who may well have different preferences. In other words, you'd expect that reliable inside sources may not report the same story. It's just one person's opinion.

It only creates problems when either the original poster overstates what they were told (though I reckon most posters with credible inside sources do take care not to overstate), or when other posters think that because an inside source said we're really into Lever, it means we must have crossed off whoever they want. In other words, it's other posters who make the original information out to be more than it is.

If we miss out on Brayshaw because of the Aints. I definitely would like Duggan!

I will be very disappointed if we miss out on Brayshaw.

He's the one I really want.

Me too RB. Watching the highlights I really feel he's a better equip AFL player. There's always such an attraction to that X Factor player who can mark and kick goals and its why we were so enamoured with Sylvia for so many years but Brayshaw is the clear number 1 for me. Really, really hope we get him.

Out of interest, anyone here still wish we had Frawley instead of pick 3?

While I agree that ND3 may become far more valuable in 2/3 years time than Frawley - that is not a given unfortunately.

One of the things that I am looking forward to next season is not having to endure watching the serial underperforming dumb footballer Frawley displaying his usual bad habits. Still cannot believe we got Pick 3 for him. What a bargain!

Given I have no confidence in the club selecting top 10 draft picks, I'd have to say Frawley.

He was the only player on our list capable of containing a Hawkins, Franklin or Roughead to an extent.

His absense down back will hurt us greatly.

That question can only be answered in retrospect.

Not true.

For where our club is and what it needs right now, we are better off without him for the simple fact that as a senior player, his work ethic and desire to do everything possible to help this club on game day was non-existent at times during games this year.

That is absolutely toxic for the younger guys at our club to see and one of the contributing factors to why our 'leaders' have been questioned at times over the years.

Comparing the number of possessions or stats on gameday is irrelevant. The fact is, Roos will be bringing in ANOTHER strong character and presence to this group to add to the changing culture at our club. And that my friends, is all that matters. We know we won't be drafting another Gysberts or Cook. We'll be drafting another soldier.

We did the right thing.

Ill tell you in two - three years..

in 2003 we used pick 3 on Colin Sylvia - would you prefer to have kept Frawley or got Colin Sylvia ?

edit - at this stage we have got absolutely zero for Frawley so the question should be - are you happy he has gone from the club and that has been done to death.

yep id prefer Frawley, pretty easily actually. I know he was distracted at times this year but I put that down to the move he was about to make and playing out of position al year. he was still our best forward most weeks

He was a very solid player for 4-5 years and would have looked a lot better if we were a decent team. our best year of his career was 2010 (8.5 wins) and he made AA - as the ball wasnt coming down his end every 2 minutes

pick 3 could be anything, injury prone, not able to handle the pressure etc

Frawley was like a spoilt little kid this year. Didn't give a sh!t about his performance or being a senior member leading by example. He was a cancer on this place once he had his head inflated and pockets lined.

A loss but not a massive one... For the last few years he lived off the status of his dubious AA selection.

Bring on pick 3 and the future.

Here's hoping the hawks don't win another flag for 10 years.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
