The Josh Kennedy Revelation

2, 3 & 23 for one player would take balls of steel from Roos.

I'm assuming if this is all true that the original plan was 3, 12 & 23, with 2 to keep on Brayshaw or pull another Tyson/Salem deal. Sydney likely said, "not enough", and due to the lateness of the hour Roos might have pulled the trigger on all our picks just to get the bloody deal done.

Also have no leverage to ask for better draft picks back from Sydney, due to how late everything is. What doesn't make sense is why all this was left to the last minute though, when the picks aren't tied up with the Clark/Varcoe/Beams/Lamumba/Brisbane trade.

The thought of Sydney grabbing Brayshaw, Petracca/Wright/McCartin and Heeney to add to their wealth of up and coming guns (Mitchell, Parker, Jack, Cunningham, etc) will well and truly set them up for the next 10 years. I'm not sure about this, I'd rather do a couple of Tyson & pick downgrade deals. Build depth. Kennedy is icing, we still need more layers on our cake.

2, 3 & 23 for one player would take balls of steel from Roos.

Where does Ryan say it's those three picks?

I think this is the perfect year to trade picks for a star player.

It's really the first year of full on crazy player movement, NBA style. The big clubs are making moves, and you have to move with them. We are lucky we have high picks to use as trade bait, and if we can get a star, do it.

Our midfield has great potential over the next 5 years, Jones is a great leader, but having a full blown star leading them .. that would be epic. Just the hype and energy this team needs.

Let's not forget, a bunch of players on this team forget how to kick/handball and execute basic skills (for whatever reasons). There is no effing way we are moving up with this happening. IMO any player that fits this bill that is between 85-115 games should be moved on (side issue).

I really, really hope we trade for a star, we just need to this year.

Two factors

- I'm being lead to believe this was in the works before Sydney's trade restrictions

- The Trengove situation.

These things can take time

I choose to believe that whoever the big fish we were chasing was landed for the 2/12 deal would immediately sustain a career-ending injury rendering us stranded with pick 3 in the draft.

Subsequently, I reckon 2 and 3 will be jets and pick 23 will be the best pick 23 since (insert relevant research).

To add to this glorious hit of luck, we keep our ex-captain who amazingly returns to full fitness to bolster the ... Midfield?

As such we have picks 2, 3, 23 and Trengove instead of having pick 3 and an injured name-player.

Wishful thinking?

So we r potentially going to give Sydney pics 2&3.

That's great one of the best midfieldes in the comp is going to get even better players along with their academy pic

Farting brilliant

Almost 45HG. We either end up with Mitch Clark 2.0 or Scully/Trengove/Gysberts 2.0.

The curse of Norm Smith is strong.

I believe he knows someone working in membership. Called Frawley and Vince early

Yep, and membership would be right across the trade options at the club.

It might explain why Mahoney has said we'll use 2 & 3 in the draft, if we're trying to force Sydney to agree to maybe 2 & 23 rather than all 3 early picks.

Picks 2 and 3 is far too much for one player, it is time this club backed itself and its ability to choose and support younger players. We are a few years a way from being a top 4 side so we have time to get young draft picks up and going, whereas kennedy will just be getting closer to his use by date. We also have to consider we are handing Sydney players that will set them up for the next 10 years for success.

Beams was just traded for 5, 25 and Crisp.

Is Kennedy really worth that much more than Beams? Would 2 & 23 do the job? Probably not but 2, 3 and 23 is a lot more.

Beams is also 24 so has 2 years extra up his sleeve.

Brayshaw is a good comparison to Wines.

I wouldn't straight swap Wines for Kennedy alone.

2 and 3 for Kennedy would be short sighted at best.

Kennedy is a far superior player to Beams. Also comes without baggage. Would much rather he mentors our youngsters than Beams.

If we throw all of our top draft picks into the deal to land Kennedy then I'll...I'll ...I'll .. stop submitting my weekly 3 word player analysis.

Seriously, risking everything on 1 player would be a total catastrophe, and reeks of desperation.

Surely Roos cannot expect our current list plus Garlett , ( possibly Lumumba and Frost ) to make any significant inroads just by adding Kennedy!!

And 2 years older. 3 and 23 plus is enough. 3 and 12 might have been fairer but if 3 and 23 plus a later pick maybe in a 3 way deal for a fringe player doesn't get it done it isn't worth doing.

Giving up 2 and 3 just isn't worth it.

Do we have anyone else on the list we may be able to get a pick around 10 to 15 with? Maybe a Howe or a garland?

2 and 3 to Sydney, joining Heeney and their other academy selections, is basically handing Sydney top-4 finishes for the next five years.

Solves their salary cap issues and gives them a great stock of young talent to develop in a thriving, generally mature list.

I hope we all enjoyed the Hawthorn v Sydney grand final., because we'll be seeing a few more.

Would it count as ironic if the two overwhelming dominant clubs of the next few years got there by exploiting the desperation and vulnerability of the bottom club?

Or just... you know... symbolic of the new era.

Would love Kennedy but I have doubts one extra mid would give us the required kick along, even one that is such a good player.

Think we need to keep 2 and snag Brayshaw.

2, 3 and 23 would require Kennedy and Mitchell, or someone of his quality.

Kennedy is a super player. Would do 2 and 3 for him, but 2, 3 and 23 seems a bit much unless there's something else included.

Would obviously prefer it was 3 and 23!

As a matter of interest, where other than Demonland has this rumour come from?

Ha I love this time of year!

Common sense just flys out the window.

Reading Demonland should come with a warning like:

"Too much reading of this forum will require that you wear your finest rosebank stackhat when you have finshed reading, for fear of the sky falling and causing serious injury!- May contain Nuts"

I love it! Has more more drama than the Methendon game!

Keep it up Guys!

Well, marketing and web content at Hawthorn knew about (and published an interview with) Frawley before that happened.

I am surprised in the lack of faith that Roos, Goodwin and Stone cannot bring picks 2 & 3 on relatively quickly to have an impact in 2015. Each of this year's top four already have developed bodies even before a pre-season and there is no reason that they shouldn't be regarded as any less likely than what we all saw with Wines this season!

Please can everyone read the thread. I said 2 & 3. Where did pick 23 come from? I am already in deep water, let alone people making up things like adding 23 in as well.

I'd expect for 2 and 3 we'd require Kennedy and a young player, e.g. Mitchell. This also fits GNF's riddle.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
