care factor today

Hawthorn, Sydney Geelong, Freo

Yawnnnnnnnnnnnn

Same teams every year

AFL is so boring now

Collingwood and St Kilda played in the 2010 grand final but both missed finals this year.

It's not that bad.

It's probably jealousy but watching these two teams fight out was so boring for me. Hawthorn celebrating and collecting their medals, big whoop, may as well have replayed the 2013 presentations.

Would have much preferred to have seen Port, a team that has built itself from the ground up, winning today then the boring old Hawks. Would have been no different if the Swans won either.

Port win last week, Sydney would've wont tonight. Their passiveness today was entirely mental, they just weren't up to the challenge of Hawthorn. They had too much GF experience.

Jealous is a curse

Waste Product

Sticks and stones wyl

My care factor was zero.

Hawthorn were good, Sydney weren't.

They'll probably play each other again next year, complete with their new free agents.

Should get used to it as this comp is rapidly becoming a two tiered one and the flag will be shared by the select few.

I'm not happy that the hawks won so easily. Would have been great if it was a close game or is Swans had won.

You guys are a bunch of wingers. It's the grand final.

I hated that Hawthorn won, but was blown away by how good they were.

They had winners all over the ground. Everyone played there role.

I bet most of you dont turn up to etihad when we play.

Of course not! Ground is a blight on the league. Would prefer to watch footy at Dederang!

Exactly, why hate the Hawks, because they have recruited smartly? Swans have the extra mill not them. Today proved players like Watts need to go now.

How did Watts get in this discussion, can't we leave him out of it for now.

Are Port part of that tier? 2 years ago they were worse than us.

How come only bottom teams sook about the state of the game

As much as it hurts me to say it but high time we started listening to some of purple's advice and stopped sooking with our hand out

Agreed, it's frightening for clubs like us. We have to look at Port, who rose up the ladder after free agency, and remain hopeful that we can reach success.

After FA's start, but not before FA becomes of age. It will get worse.

Spot on.

Hawthorn played 7 straight GFs in a row in the 80's - three of them consecutively against Essendon - and the Lions won 3-in-a-row in the 00's etc etc.

Footy history is littered with periods of sustained success, including our own history.

As for the OP, I spent the entire last half imagining just how good it would feel to have a premiership all sewn up in the 3rd, to have the chance to celebrate every second of the last 45 minutes of the game.

Can only dream.

I think with free agency we will see more sides winning 2 and 3 flags in a row as they will just keep topping up with free agents, gone are the days where there is a different premier each year, I turned off at half time as I couldn't be bothered watching the Hawks win another and if frawley and Clark end up at hawthorn it will just be another great example of the afl equalization

Shocking dreary finals series. Worst grand final since 2000. YET another Hawthorn flag. They had one flag when I was born. We had 11. Now we both have 12. Now the Hawks will add a couple free agents to make the AFL even more like the EPL.

Went to a bbq with probably 15 people in attendance. People were watching but not getting overly involved, we spent the 3rd quarter outside chatting amongst ourselves. I don't know, I guess I feel a little over footy at the moment.

Wonder how many years it'll take the AFL to do something, if anything, when we see the Hawks and Swans play off in another 2 or 3 grand finals over the next 5 years. The AFL is just becoming a joke and free agency will destroy the game.

(might be 4 or 5 beers down)

Have to be careful Lama, what we wish for mate.

I don't mind the clubs having a "dynasty",,, but when its the power clubs over & over again, rotating successes, it just gets too tiring, & I feel over it At the Mo. 50+ Yrs says so.

I feel like the AFL has done this to Us.

Am hearing you. Left my function during the 2nd quarter (didn't help that I couldn't walk or talk!).

Like how Essendon were on top from 1999 to 2001, Brisbane and Port from 2001 until 2004, West Coast and Sydney in 2005 and 2006, Geelong from 2007 until 2011. All of these were before free agency.

Hawthorn win there 12th Flag.

NORM

TIME TO LIFT THE CURSE NOW....

its not Norm who can lift zee curse, its all of Us... with a little help from our enemies. & the AFL admins

Because Hawks are the benchmark, I would rather someone with average or above average disposal but is a competitor and always makes a contest than someone with elite disposal but plays so wide that they're in the carpark and avoids the contest.

Salary cap....

There's a whole lot of melodrama and hyperbole going on around here.

From 2001-2006 interstate sides won every flag. During the latter half of those 6 years all we heard was 'Victorian football is doomed'. It was also pretty hard in 2003 to see Brisbane from ever slipping, but they did.

St Kilda and Collingwood were both dominant sides from 2008-2012. Now both of them have slid out of the finals. The Bulldogs made three consecutive preliminary finals from 2008-2010 but are similarly down the bottom.

Hawthorn won the flag in 2008 but many agree it was before their time. They then missed the finals in 2009 and barely made them in 2010. They've made four consecutive PFs and three consecutive GFs, sure, but each PF has been decided by under a kick. They could all have gone the other way. It's not like they're just romping home every season.

Dreary? Like NM pipping Essendon at the post? Like two upsets in the semi final round? Like Port Adelaide and Hawthorn playing some absolutely breathtaking football, and Port nearly stealing the preliminary final?

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
