2014 Player Review - # 17 Sam Blease

Capable of the occasional impressive flashy dashing goal through use of his pace but lacks the necessary work ethic, tank, smarts, mental toughness and maturity as a player. Touted as a possible trade.

Probably the worst player to kick 5 goals in a game other than the previously almost unknown player from any other club who seems to do it against us at least once or twice a year.

Just the wrong type of player at the wrong time. Ten years ago he would have been a star.

Blease release me , let you go .......

Showing your age there, BB, but I like the reference ...

Another 1st rounder which hasn't worked out, how depressing.

Only runs one way. Can't defend. Can't kick to a target. Hopeless when not in possession.

The mind would boggle if another club traded for him rather than simply waiting for him to be delisted.

I see this bloke as the classic waste of talent.. There would be thousands pf footballers killing for his ability because they have the work ethic..

I see it more as case of a classic waste of a pick...esp an early one.

The Brisbane game was the realisation for me that he was never going to make it. All year long he was told that his lack of defensive pressure and mind set was keeping him out of the team. Then to let his man run away and kick a goal in the last showed he just doesn't get it. If we get anything at all for this down hill skier then I will be more surprised than when the Eagles took Morton.

So disappointing that even after multiple pre-seasons was never able to improve his endurance to a level needed to run both ways at AFL level.

Quick and can kick a goal, I would think he will get a go somewhere else.

A huge disappointment and, despite the lofty reputation that Roos has a player and football manager, Blease was yet another of the mid-level players who failed to show any improvement this year. I would delist ten before Sam based on pure talent, but I couldn't blame the club for tapping him on the shoulder.

A classic example of how the Red and Blueprint the club worked under a few years back was so badly flawed.

Blease was the wrong type of player to draft.

He never progressed. I don't think he would have even if he had not broken the leg.

Flashy with no ticker.

Blease release me , let you go .......

Surely we could off load him to one of the WA teams DF.

They seem to have picked up most of recent rejects.

Perhaps for pick 80 or so.

in turn that'd be a handy pick for a FA !! :)

Would only be good if he does not play WAFL.

As Meth Coast's reserve side is East Perth and the Shockers is Peel Thunder.

I would not want West Perth to lose any more games as a result of playing against strong AFL reserve sides.

Blease is a fAST good player and you will all eat shine when he cuts us up.

I saw him as the next Bluey Adams with his red hair and extreme pace but sadly I was wrong.

Has been announced on the website that Bleasey is out. One of my close mates played TAC cup with him and apparently he is a ripping young bloke. Like with most of our players, I blame the club for him not reaching his potential and wish him all the best.

yeah....always the club isnt it....Damn the Dees !!

So apparrently Blease has requested to be traded.. And nominated the Northern Blues as his preferred club!!

Bye bye Blease

you were a tease

often pensive

never defensive

how i prayed

you'd be a trade

for you no tick

just a wasted pick

Good luck with the future Sam

But you contributed little.

Another poor pick says goodbye!

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
