I don't see how that relates to "his background".

I know Waylon said he liked the idea of impressing the girls and I know he was often ready to drop out (but to his credit he pushed through that), but I don't recall anything about partying... in fact, didn't he put his position on the line for not dragging Chris(?) back after Chris had been out most of the night drinking (used his Captain's privilege to swap pull Chris out of the bottom three and put himself in for failing in his duties). Seemed fairly ethical.. but that sure backfired on him this week when Chris used his captain's privilege to get Waylon out of the bottom three, only to have Waylon refuse... Waylon was then sent packing.

the post I was replying to was about his attitide. Nothing to do with his background.

Ok, fair enough... but my question to that poster ("care to elaborate") was directed at his comment "Attitude is nowhere near what is required, which I understandable given his background" - it was the "background" part that I was asking him to elaborate on.

I think it is pretty obvious isn't it? He comes from a community where playing in the AFL isn't the be all and end all, playing footy is about hanging with your mates and taking speccies (quoted from Waylen himself who has openly admitted how much he struggles with the training). I think from watching the show it was almost blatantly obvious he didn't have the mindset of an AFL footballer. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with his attitude, it just isn't what is required to make it in the modern game, which is actually a bit sad, but that is the way it is.

Waylon is the obvious thought with such raw talent, but seems to go to water when the going gets really tough. His thoughts on the "stupid paddle board" challenge emphasised this, it may well have been stupid but at the end of the day it was another opportunity to show how much he wanted to player AFL. He gave up, which tells me he doesn't want it as much as the others.

I reckon the Jackle has a bit of something to him, he's pretty quick and seems to tackle and go hard with intent. Will be interesting to see who wins it.

(Spoiler) I was glad the American dude got the axe, super arrogant and confident about his athletic abilities. Never showed it, the Irish guy has a lot more potential as an international recruit give his Gaelic Football background.

Everything men do they do for girls. Some are just more honest about it than others.

Looks like the winner of this competition gets to choose which club they go to. Just another way to favor the power clubs.

Wagner to the Hawks or Geelong for free?

We should make noise about this, regardless if the winner is good or not. If potential guns start coming through this system it would be a joke to let them choose the team they want to play for.

So anyone else keeping up with what's happened? I have to say despite the cheesy challenges I've really enjoyed the show and will be interested to see who wins it. I don't see us being chosen as the club though!

(Spoilers)

With the final 3 chosen I reckon we should have a look at Padraig, the Irish bloke. I was a bit surprised he didn't get through to the final. His attitude change was amazing to watch and I reckon he could be a potential project player. Seemed to excel in a lot of the pure athletic challenges and during the challenge against the army guys showed great leadership.

My tips Wagner.

Dude not its its a number 1 draft pick going to those clubs.

And once he gets to those power clubs he still got to get a game first.

Yeah whoever wins should be looking at clubs that he can make an impact at and not so much the best clubs.

If he does choose Melbourne he's probably got the best chance to play AFL. Competition is probably similar to the guys he'd be up against on the show!

Doesn't appear to have a good kick on him (Padraig), we have more than enough of those. That being said, as a 21 year old he has time on his side, especially given his limited football background.

Agree with Wagner call, although I wouldn't be surprised if Brady took it out. Moreland just seems like a run of the mill midfielder. Nothing really special about him

I like the look of the Irish fella.

I reckon someone will pick him up.

I'd pick him just for the name - just remember that it's pronounced 'porrick'.

I thought it was Pordrick.... because at first hearing I thought they were calling him Baldrick, which was a bit unfortunate (but quite cool none-the-less).

Wagner easily - though the show makes watching youtube videos of players seemingly like knowing everything there is to know about a player. It's hard to really know what any of them can do on the field.

He's clearly got some toe and can use the ball a bit (from what I've seen) and seems a good bloke. Hard to really rate any as AFL prospects on what we've seen, however.

Not sure how the draft works.

No, it is 'porrick'. I am of Irish forbears, and I have a son named Seamus!

I have sons named Declan and Liam... but I'm not Irish and their mum is Japanese :) I'll take your word against mine any day.

I like the Irish bloke as well. At the beginning I had a soft spot for the Jackel but since he has been delisted, I hope Padraig wins. All three seem like decent guys.

Psssst Jane02... not sure how to break this to you, but Padraig was delisted this week.

Would love to see us take him on as a project player (is that even possible?).

Maybe you should tell Padraig he can't pronounce his own name! He pronounces it "paw + drig"

Yours is consistent with Padraic, pronounced "paw + rik"

Anyway, go Yoey!

I am really one episode behind - just realised it. Now I feel really stupid.

OK - maybe the other tall guy then - Brady.

I definitely have a type - tall ruckman.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
