Completely missed the point, Where did I say anything about agility? Of course it will improve his agility but it wont make him successful in the marking contests as you have pointed out.

And as I mentioned, being leaner wont all of a sudden make him start to stick his marks more.

My point however, was that I consider his lack of being able to reposition himself at the fall of the ball in marking contests is one of Dawesy's limitations. I believe it causes him to be less effective in one-on-ones - strength aside. He runs under the ball, finds it difficult to pivot and adjust to the projection of the ball and let's face it, he never noticably gets too far off the ground.

All of these perceived issues, in my opinion, should be mitigated by him being leaner.

Now, does that make sense.

Sometimes..and a lot of the time it is horrible delivery into the forward 50 with Dawes taking on 2 or 3 opponents.

My faded memory of Darren Bennett was a forward who didn't have great hands overhead but rather was great on the lead out of the square taking the ball on his chest. He managed 80 odd goals in 1990 then faded away when Jackovitch came along and demanded the central leading forward role. DB at CHF didn't work because he couldn't take an overhead mark. Dawes needs to play the same way as the lead up forward but we need a game plan and midfield that can move the ball quickly to the leading forward.

The first thing Dawes needs to do is stay in the forward line. Unless we are defending a 1 point lead in the last minute of a game, there is absolutely no reason he should be wandering around the wing / half back line.

Am I the only one salivating over the prospect of Garlett following Dawes around all game?

Sure, the combo of Dawes/Hogan excites, but I'm looking forward to the Dawes/Garlett combo equally, if not more, in 2015.
