No certainty that he will go. Reports on radio this morning indicated that potential suitors are becoming nervous because of his poor form.

Maybe not worth the price tag originally offered.

MFC has an offer on the table.

That didn't seem to affect Dale Thomas' free agency price. Got $800K and hadn't played fit or a good game for over a year

Just heard Frawley has now delayed his answer to the end of this month.

Most likely waiting until the finals finish. as the team that he has decided to go to is still playing. And therefore cant annouce any details.

I hope Hoges kicks a bag on him next year, or knocks him senseless. or both. I';m over Frawley, we have more important issues with the team.

What is he having trouble making up his mind when he's had the entire season to think about it?

Yeah right.

IMO we need to know this wk not eom.

The tail doesn't wag the dog anymore Mr Frawley.

I think delaying his answer another month is a little soft if he has already made a decision,

He should give the club an answer and allow us to plan accordingly for an extra month

an inside source (outside of their football dept) at Geelong has provided the following (we will see if its true). Rivers body is almost gone. Whilst they are pleased with some terrific form of late, he is struggling with his body. Best case scenario is a 12 month contract extension otherwise its retirement. He believes one of the key factors in smoothing the contract negotiations is the acquisition of his good mate Frawley onto their list.

Their is likely to be a list purging and some aggressive recruiting this off season into the cattery. expect some big names to be arriving over the summer (that may also have swayed Frawley). All roads seem to be pointing Frawley to the cats.

My thoughts are - Lets hope its a big contract but it probably won't be in the Daisy Thomas first rounder compensation. I'm a little disappointed he isn't leaving for money. it just re-emphasises how crap we are.

The club is planning SPR..We know full well he's plssing off. PJ said as much yesterday. We hold no illusions. A lot of things may pass behind closed doors. What you SEE is for public consumption.

No one can come out and blatantly say X Y or Z just yet as its "against the rules" the Joke that they are.

Would not surprise me if the coin to go to Geelong was not huge. They would still be a very attractive proposition for Frawley. I would assume the MFC would have an inkling of this potential and as i have posted before suspect the request for 'special assistance' (not a PP - what's all that?) is about maximising our FA compo and shoring up pick 3.

One can only hope that if he goes to the Cats it coincides with their much delayed drop down the ladder and our long hoped for rise up the ladder. It would be nice to to meet in the middle of the table.

Just another reason to hope the Cats bow out of finals in straight sets.

same goes for Hawks though who they play in the Qualifying. They got Lake from another feeder club in the doggies.

to me Lake playing on Hawkins is the critical difference to stop the cats beating them on Friday. any doubts and go back to their first game this year when Hawkins obliterated them.

The AFL are all for equalisation and unbelievably introduce this free agency, which everyone could see would create a greater divide.

it is truly sickening. Watching Geelong, Hawthorn and Sydney top up like gorging fat Italian Opera singers, picking pieces of pie to add to their main course, is enough to make me puke into my mouth.

AFL hierarchy was actually opposed to free agency - player's union backed them into a corner on it.

I don't believe this for a second.

Cats chasing Dangerfield - as expected - and happy to do a trade the year before he becomes a free agent or go hard with big money offer at the end of next year.

I imagine it'd be in both parties interests to try and do a trade.

If Dangerfield is even thinking of leaving then we need to call Adelaide immediately and put big picks on the table. We have the coin as well. He still may not want to come but it's the best deal the Crows will get (outside of the Saints offering Pick #1).

Don't want to derail the Frawley thread though - bit annoyed he wants to put it off till the end of the month. Disrespectful to the club as we want to move on and look to planning for 2015 and we have to wait yet another month for him to make up his mind. Not good enough IMO.

apparently frawley was hugging the other players at the end of the game saying goodbye.

definitely gone.

But Wiseblood et al...here in lays the problem of the existing farce. If he is going to a team that might go deep into the finals ...say Geelong (as thats my mail ) and not staying with us well he cant really do much under the present rules. Without doubt theres an agreement in place between the parties at arms length to sit down and sign on dots come the real end of the season but right now hes in no mans land. I'll give him that. If he spills the beans he's in breech !! catch 22

I do. What i also believe is that the AFL didn't think though the implication properly and stupidly thought their compo system would adequately address the issues of lower clubs being hurt by FA. They should have only agreed to FA with the proviso that top 4 clubs at end of home an away were ineligible to get FA's. That way clubs like the Hawks and Cats couldn't just top up to remain at the top (which contradicts the whole draft concept) yet if they chose their club judiciously FA's could still get to a club on the rise and with good chances of progressing up the ladder (eg say North).

Such a system would enable mid run clubs to be use their extra coin to attract FA's and give sides other those entrenched in the top 4 a chance to rise - which would support the whole logic of the draft system not hinder it.

End of the month makes sense.. Let te bloke have a well warned rest.. Its not easy playing AFL despite what most think on here. He would be physically spent.. And I'd say would be heading overseas for a holiday! The bloke has given us seven years in a garbage team. There are players at other clubs (geelong) who have probably played in more finals than he has had wins.. I don't blame him for leaving!

don't know what makes you think mid range clubs have more coin in their salary cap

especially given how all clubs have a min cap spend

Too true DC.

All is required of him is to go to Roos or Mahoney or both and say I am going to put my name in the hat as a free agent.

No club commitment is needed.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
