5 years at 700.....way overs if true.

Hope this is just scuttlebutt

I reckon he's worth it. Particularly to this club in the current circumstances.

I'm sick to death of seeing required players leave the club. I want it to become a sought after destination.

So, I hope this is true.

And that we somehow also manage to land Malceski. And Shiel.

If frawley had signed it would have been announced asap. I doubt he will sign with anyone until he has had a chance to get all of the bidding teams final offers, that is what he will take to melbourne if he wants to stay. I doubt that melbourne will try to match what ever he is offered.

Why are we so concerned what he does? Never understood the problem. Stay ,go play or not matters little in the long term. Certanily doesnt need 58 pages !Not the most important part of the future of the club Good luck Frawley what ever you do.

I can't work out whether the ambivalence towards Frawley is because people have forgotten how good he is in his natural role as a defender or as a result of some personal defence mechanism to avoid the disappointment of him leaving.

Frawley is still one of the best defenders in the competition and by far the best defender in our team. He is in the prime of his career. I am not sold at all that we would be better off losing him for a first round pick (wherever that might end up). We are by no means guaranteed a player of his calibre and we certainly can't bank on landing Cameron or Patton or Shiel with the pick we get for him as some seem to have already done (although FWIW keeping Frawley also doesn't preclude us landing someone like Shiel in a Tyson style deal).

We will never climb the ladder if our best players keep jumping ship as they hit free agency eligibility, we absolutely NEED some of these guys to stick around if we are going to improve.

We've always loved Chip. Go Chip!!

Everyone was just kidding about all those jibes when they said you were greedy and no good etc.....

Those turning their nose up at $700k know this - the cap will be $10m in 2015 and at least $12m in the last year of the this mooted 5 year contract. The cap is increasing by $400k/$500k on average.

Did you know that?

The TV rights in 2016 will probably send that number higher.

Worry about getting and keeping good players, not what they are paid - just missing the point.

I think 600-700k is around the mark he was always going to get, as long as there are multiple clubs chasing him, his price will continue to rise

I doubt he'd be guaranteed 700k per season. I'm sure he'd have to meet criteria to get the whole lot.

played golf with someone who knows a canadian living in Perth who knows Mike Pike --Frawleys signed with the swans

I know a guy on Facebook who knows the second cousin of a guy who knows the vet who looks after Frawley's dog, and apparently Frawley hasn't decided yet.

i know nobody who knows frawley, his dog, his vet or his grandma but i've just got the vibe he's gone

it's the mabo thing, the constitution and all that stuff

you can take it as fact, as clear as the sky is blue

I spoke to chips grandma and she told me Judd has signed on

I agree with all these sentiments, but the boys got quite excited when they heard the whisper. Both my son and his mate wrote footy reports for the Casey Scorps and they developed good friendships amongst the staff.

Anyhoo, announced Monday apparently.....

Unsubstantiated.

Unconfirmed.

Just looked outside the sky is grey.

I can only go by the whisper I was forwarded ( and I get few ) that he might be heading South-ish for about 2.4-2.5 over 4y. I thought that might have been a good deal for Chip. Time will tell.

I certainly dont think we ought to be offering any mor than 500 personally and I d only offer a 3y with an agreeable kicker.

Handy to keep probably but certainly not indispensable and truly worth more as value towards a gun mid than have him play a switch role. Just mho. Dont expect many to concur.Thats fine

I mean...if it's US !!!!

we may have an offer on the table of say? $605,000.00 over 3Yrs ? 'just dreamin'

it is highjump were playin', isn't it. or is it leapfrog?

If that's true it isn't with us- he isn't worth that to us anymore.

I see his true value as a shut down defender, and his spot in the backline has been replaced by Mcdonald. He's been playing second string tall forward and when Hogan comes in he'll be relegated to third- so 700k a season for a third option forward won't happen, although I could see a club in their window who lack a shut down defender maybe willing to fork out the dough.

Would much rather us spend that kind of money on a gun mid, as that's where our needs lay.

If it's true, of course.

In a strong team with great midfielders he'll improve outa sight up forward, especially with better talls about him. IMO he could be a genuine swingman, but not for us in our timeframe.

Much as I hate to see players go. I accept this will happen.

We are moving on past J Frawley. Prefer he stays at $550k - $600k but I won't blame him if he can get a whole lot more.

This is football in the 21st century.

Many older posters (including myself) simply have to get used to players now playing for the money, not the jumper.

I still think he is a vital cog in our side, especially with Roosy openly saying he wants the defence to be 90% of the focus

having said that I have also heard that rumour so it's getting around a fair bit, and I know some Geelong supporters who reckon they are really confident they will get him but tbh they are d-heads.

600k per year over 4 secures his future and secures our compo so really it's a win-win if he has made the decision to leave

I reckon he's worth it. Particularly to this club in the current circumstances.

I agree Ron, If we are ever going to get out of the current position we need to stop replacing developed played for youngsters.

If we loose Frawley it will be someone else next year and someone the year after and eventually we will start losing the players under FA we got in compensation for previous FA loses.

I'm interested to know what posters here are thinking when they make comments about Frawley like:

"I think 600-700 is about what he is worth" and the like....

WTF would people here know about what Frawley is worth?

Salary cap management is incredibly difficult and every club has a team of people working full time on all the permutations and combinations. The salary cap has to be paid to someone. It is increasing all the time. It is as much art as science with the possible scenarios and timing of players contracts.

It annoys me that some posters make blanket statements about a players dollar value when mostly they have no freaking idea. Some are jealous because they would give their left knacker to don the guernsey (not you Sue!). Some earn $50k a year and think any football player on $100k should thank their lucky stars.

Who cares? We want the best list possible. I don't give a flying about what we pay the players as long as they perform..

Those that announce "Frawley is only worth xxxx" should STFU....

Glad thats off my chest......

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
