An 18 year old Brayshaw or a 26 year old Frawley?

It certainly looks to me like this one fell in our favour.

Frawley was, in my strong opinion, our best defender. He will be missed.

But not as much as what we have gained in return though. And in saying that I don't mean simply pick 3.

I like the fact that the club didn't pay massive overs for someone who was given every opportunity to commit to the club, but who ultimately was flirting around for the sexiest offer.

We don't need that. We need leaders with real character.

He'll be good for Hawthorn. But I'm glad the club drew a line in the sand and essentially said we'd like you to stay, but not on any terms.

This club now has dignity, expectations and minimum standards. The days of absolute compromise and capitulation are over.

Brayshaw will fit well into the new model - in fact, he might even be the very embodiment of it.

Frawley will be servicable for the Hawks. But IMO James Frawley isn't worth a player the quality of pick 3 - or what I perceive that value to be.

I think MFC will get a lot more out of Brayshaw. Just a case where the cards fallen our way - although we've had A LOT of those cases. We've been very lucky.

That's very subjective, but I think most would say the opposite.

A senior player that is not a 100% commited despite his talents is of little value to the club both on and off the field. That was Frawley. He was unwilling or unable to go the hard yards to help push us up the ladder. I am sure his commitment level will be much higher at the Hawks and will deliver what they expect from him. I think it was the best move for all parties. Allows us to move on with one less impediment. We got a prime draft pick. Frawley got his money and shot for a flag and the Hawks got their gorilla tamer.

Does anyone know if there's an element of truth to the rumour that Frawley was ready to recommit to MFC but it was suggested by the club that Hawthorn might be a better fit for him??? (Read that as we'd prefer pick 3 at this stage, Chip!)

I believe the rumour appeared after he formally left. Then again we heard from the club that an offer was on the table mid season and he refused to consider it until the end of the season. A rumour like that can be easily planted to muddy the situation and shift the blame.

I am waiting for the spin machine to say it was our fault MC went to the Cats.

Frawley will have one job at Hawthorn next year. He will be expected to beat a gorilla one on one, something he is very good at. He won't be relied upon to win his own footy, create run and hit targets further a field. He will have so much quality around him that will be able to provide that.

I hate to say it but I think he will be successful at Hawthorn in 2015.

Actually, I think his biggest weakness was his inability to take on the gorilla forwards. He was very good on (relatively) skinny forwards with a similar body shape (Jack Reiwoldt) but struggled massively on the bigger and stronger forwards (Cloke, Hawkins, Nick Reiwoldt).

Well I wonder when James passes the ball to a teammate close by and then stands back without blocking or shepherd, which he done all the time, it won't go down well, at a team like hawks it won't go down well.

Throw Jurrah in there too and it would have been the most exciting forward line in the comp, but it's us, and in some previous life we were all deemed unworthy of such things.

Jurrah has just signed on to play with the Nightcliff Tigers up in Darwin. A few good players going around up there now including the Davey boys.

Swap Jurrah with Petracca and that's what we do have. Plenty to be excited about as is.

Was having a chat to a fellow Melbourne supporter the other day & we both wondered whether he would or Melbourne would entertain the idea of him coming back to the club ? He got his premiership, he loved the club & you would imagine he would love to play in a final or 2 & a shot at a flag with the club he went through so much with. He is almost 30 & has one year remaining on his contract but he is the type of player we miss down back to take those bigger forwards & would allow Tmac to take the 2nd key & zone off... Thoughts ?

He walked whilst Paul Roos was resurrecting the entire club, Chip can keep walking.

If he had left whilst Mark Neeld was in charge my feelings may be different.

No, tommy is a better player and oscar and frost are developing nicely and we would have to take on his salary which he is worth about half of. 

We need to look forward, not back.  Chip isn't in our future.
