He was terrible. Directly caused 3 goals to them with rushed poor decisions and shirked two howling marks where he had to go. Wet weather isn't his thing, but he was pathetic. Toumpas didn't get as much cheap footy but his endeavour was there all game.

That is awesome that Blease had 30.

Sam Blease not usually a big ball winner, this is EXACTLY what MFC want from Sam.

I don't care if Blease burnt a few, to have 30 possessions is a reflection of an increased work ethic.

We don't want him to go back into his shell. If he's getting Plenty of ball, that is a great start to work on his play, from there.

I'd rather have him do what he did yesterday, than not getting involved. from him working hard & finding footy, there is plenty to help him with from that point.

If he just doesn't get involved, then he's another morton/cook.

He's obviously Not ready for AFL yet, but 30 possessions is IMO hopeful re his footy going forward. at least a light in the tunnel.

The reports aside that he was soft and burnt players and gave up three goals, one game of 30 possessions is not enough to get a call up.

Apparently you were at a different game to the club, reporters and myself.

I know there were a few turnovers to Blease but this is what the coaches wanted wasnt it? Getting the ball in his hands? Would like to see a couple more of these 30 games. Love seeing McKenzie go back to the 2's and rack up the stasts.

Getting the footy in Blease's hands more is the first step.

Once he starts consistently winning it, then we can worry about his ball-use.

Fitzpatrick - I asked Andrew Nicol, went over on his ankle in ruck contest, blew up straight away, they don't think really serious

RAIN MEN by Whispering Jack

A young and inexperienced Casey combination breathed life back into their club's season with a gutsy 16-point win over the Northern Bullants at a rain drenched Visy Park on Saturday.

The Scorpions who squandered a big half time lead to lose narrowly last week at the hands of the Werribee Tigers looked like repeating the effort again this week after seeing a 32-point lead just before the main break dwindle down to a single goal just before the final break.

However, the team dug deep in the final term despite the fact that several were hurt during the game and had spent time in the hands of the trainers. The loss of Max Gawn to AFL emergency duty combined with the fact that a couple of ruckmen are on the injured list had left them so desperately short of ruckmen that defender Troy Davis had to be co-opted for second ruck duty giving away 10cm when contesting against Cameron Wood. He was helping out first gamer in 202cm beanpole Jake Thomas after losing Jack Fitzpatrick to injury just on quarter time but it was tough going against seasoned big man Cameron Wood who had a birthday party with a near record number of hit outs that helped drive the Blues during their four goal to one comeback in the third quarter.

The highlight of the game was Tim Smith's five goal haul in the first half, a time when conditions at the ground were at their worst. He marked strongly and kicked straight and was the difference between the sides in the opening two stanzas. After half time he was well covered by the Blues' defence but by then the damage had almost been done.

The Scorpions offset their ruck disadvantage with strength in their midfield. Jimmy Toumpas, Jordie McKenzie, Viv Mitchie and Aidan Riley all worked their butts off throughout the game and the centre line of Sam Blease, Michael Evans and Dom Barry gave great drive into the forward line all day. These players should be putting pressure on the midfielders at Melbourne as they all had a much harder edge in the difficult conditions.

Although things improved weather wise as the afternoon went on the soggy ball made it difficult to play cohesive football and the game came to a virtual standstill in the final quarter when scoring was painfully difficult. The hero was youngster Jayden Hunt who slipped behind a contest near goals and kicked truly to make the game safe. Hunt has great pace and could become a real prospect as he matures.

Next week the Scorpions take on Coburg at Mantello Oval on Saturday afternoon before enjoying the first bye of the year the following week.

Would love to see what his efficiency was, by all accounts was directing play well. Either way, 15 tackles and 21 disposals is hugely positive for Toump!

Jimmy Toumpas worked his way into the match during the last term, with his defensive pressure impressive.

From the report on the MFC website, very encouraging to hear that. One of Roos' mantra's (which I'm sure pretty much everyone can see) is what you do without the ball is just as important as what you do with the ball. Toumpas was struggling to impact contests and put pressure on the ball carrier, glad to hear he's working on that.

From what I could make out, Strauss seemed to be playing as a defensive forward, tended to go anywhere except near the ball, maybe playing the decoy role giving Smith a one on one which worked to perfection in the first half, will have to wait and see coaches review.

Actually forgot to mention ventured on to the quagmire at 3/4 time was very impressed with Brad Miller's talk to the forwards, calm, quietly spoken, just stressing to try and do the 1 percenters and lock the ball in the forward 50 if they could, and jag a goal or two, worked to perfection
