The Jack Viney bump that never was!

Featured Replies

Will be amazed if his misses games.

I don't think he should miss games but with the MRP I have ceased to be amazed by anything they do.

AFL website reporting Lynch out for 6 weeks with a broken jaw.

You can almost see the stitch up coming. Viney to get three weeks.

He hit Georgiou's head and had him concussed. Lynch should get rubbed out. Victim of his own circumstances. Forget Viney LOL?.

Straight to the Tribunal.

Jeeeeesus Christ!!!!

This is typical Melbourne bashing!

if he gets rubbed out for that they might as well make it a non contact sport.

Not allowed to even touch them now days, it's a mans game and a contact sport, i can't believe this hasn't been thrown out already.

Straight to the tribunal... this is Bull [censored]

Well that will be Viney on holiday for a few weeks. [censored] me this game is getting soft. Back in the 90's Jack would have got 3 votes for a play like that one

Where is it reported?

I can only assume it had been referred because it is unclear how to charge it, not referred because it is severe.

In some waysa referral is perfect. We don't have to roll the dice and risk more to fight the charge. So we won't just accept two weeks.

Reported on SEN

Interesting that John Ralph said on Finey's show that Jack didn't have a case to answer. Looks like the injury is more important than the act.

I agree. I am assuming they've looked at it and said 'jeez we don't know, let the tribunal sort it'. And spot on,we can contest it without fear of copping an additional week

I think this is an example of the injury that resulted from the hit. The argument will be what cause the injury Viney's hit our the head clash with Georgiou. I must admit it looked OK to me and I can't see how Viney could do anything else. I thought he hit him up the middle little to no head contact but the impact forced the head back and the damage was done by th ehead clash.

Unless there is vision that Viney hits him high he can't get weeks. It was a sandwich and to me the head clash with Georgiou caused the injury.

If Gibson gets a reprimand last week jumping into his opponent with eyes off the ball then this should have been a reprimand at worst.

Will have to prove that cause of injury was by contact from Viney and not secondary head clash with Georgiou. So going by the vision there is doubt, enough to throw the charges out IMO. Be also interesting what the Crow medical report says.

I've now looked at this a number of times. Viney has problem and two possible outs. The problem is that it looks like he always intended to bump. The first out is that Lynch gets pushed by Georgiou into Viney which changes the angle of contact. The second out (which may not be an out if there's other information I'm not aware of) is that the broken jaw might be from the head clash with Georgiou.

Because it looks like Viney always intended to bump Lynch, he has the problem of having taken the risk. But the two outs might be sufficient reason to argue that the outcome was both improbable and unlucky.

Given the onus is on the player not to take the risk, I think Viney will be having an enforced break.

He is in trouble - how many get referred straight to the tribunal and "he cannot accept an early plea on this matter."

Referring it is better than applying the MRP's system - it would have meant fighting a 3 or 4 week charge.

Now he can have a chance to get off as the contact was incidental to him going for the ball.

I'm not holding my breath though - this stuff happens in footy but is a look they don't like to see. They would like Viney to not bother with the ball in that instance.

Lynch braces himself and this is not something we talk about and he doesn't have a broken jaw.

Players need to learn to protect themselves.

There is a big difference between braving for contact (and protecting yourself) and bumping, but the AFL doesn't acknowledge this.

If two players run full pace at the ball, both with the intention of collecting the ball and not hitting anyone else they still should be required to protect themselves.

A player owes a ditty of care to others, but a player surely owes a duty of care to themselves as well.

Yeah MRP calling it rough conduct would be a certain 2 or 3 weeks.

Straight to the tribunal gives us a chance to state our case. Hopefully we've got a good argument.

I am preparing myself for not seeing our boy Jack take the field for around a month unfortunately.

best bit of good luck weve had all year.

if it went to MRP he wouldve got 4.

if it goes to a tribunal sitting he has a chance to get off.

Viney's shoulder broke the left side of his jaw.

He will be rubbed out for 3-4 weeks and might get a reduction for a clean record.

You can't choose to bump, break a guys jaw and not be expected to be rubbed out

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
